This restaurant is in a hotel on top of a hill. From this restaurant you can see the ocean and Legoland, while enjoying some really good moderate priced american food such as Chicken Pesto Sandwich or Fish Tacos or even a nice Caesar salad. The portions are nicely sized so bring a big appetite. The wait staff is very friendly and eager to please.

It was a special night for us.The room was nice, but the booth where we sat was not comfortable for my husband. The food was good, but I thought that the waiter who was nice was not quite as attended as he should have been.We arrived early enought so that it was not that busy. They had a guitar played by a gentleman, very good.In all we will go again and try other food from the menu.

The front of house is only so-so. Our waiter was a friendly fellow but the hostess seemed too busy socialising to be bothered to deal with the line accumulation. Our breakfasts were resonably good however a bit over priced for what seemed to be canned salmon. I may go back to try dinner but was not impressed with breakfast.

Very appealing location and atmosphere. Service was excellent and attentive to any of our needs. Our food selections were very nicely presented and the proportions were just right. The food quality was very good but our party of four each thought their food selection fell short with regard to taste (seasoning either understated for an entree or too much for the house salad dressing). All in all, I'd return again.

This was my second visit to this restaurant. Both times we ate outside and the staff was very helpful in making us warm and comfortable. However, both times we were left waiting too long after our drinks were served before our order was taken. When our food was finally served, it was very good.

Food was pretty good. I asked the bartender if the poma-martini was sweet because I don't like sweet drinks, she said no, I ordered it...it tasted like sweet juice..I didn't finish it. The waitress took my salad order then suggested the soup of the day. I ordered it. She forgot to bring the soup. My salad was good, however. The servers were not friendly. They seemed hurried, yet there were only 2 other tables with guests.

  • Always looking for a new restuarant

Always looking for a new restuarant in our town, we tried this one and unfortunately, I would not eat here again or recommend it to my friends. Even with a 7:30 reservation, and clearly plenty of tables open, we waited 15 minutes to be seated. And we were told due to a "short staff" that there were no patio tables available. There was confusion from the beginning. The menu was an odd combination of things and bit overpriced, the service slow and the food was just adequate. There was a huge lag between starters and our main entree. The manager walked off with our wine bottle cap (we were bringing it home) and came back w/ a cork from someone else's wine bottle! The room itself was well appointed and the patio looked nice.

Well appointed restaurant. Beautiful view of mountains and surrounding area. New menu the night we visited. My husband had a problem with a stange glaze on his steak and he was immediately asked if he would prefer another choice of entree. The servcie was quite good and everyone was friendly. Great choice for a nice relaxing, casual evening.

  • A very disappointing experience.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP

A very disappointing experience. The hype greatly exceeded the delivery. The service was so slow and inconsistent that one would have thought they had a full house, although there were only three other tables with customers when we arrived, and it's a large room. The server initially recommended a wine, and then, after several trips to the cellar, came up empty-handed. The search seemed to take forever. The server was not at our table frequently enough to refill our glasses. We were finally able to catch the manager's attention to pour. Several other servers were hanging around the bar and chatting -- more interested in themselves than the customers. This operation needs re-training and stronger management as soon as possible.

  • This is a fairly new restaurant
    Intheknow
    Dined on 5/17/2008
This is a fairly new restaurant in Carlsbad, CA. It is moderate to high priced. The biggest problem is that it is the only restaurant in the new Sheraton and there is a mixture of well dressed people and a family of 4 just finishing a day at the pool or Legoland. I believe it needs to be for one or the other. The food is very good, but the decor is so so (coffee shop type with thin formica table tops) for the price of the food there should be tablecloths. I don't believe that the menu is very family friendly although we were looking for fine dining. Also, they serve homemade potato chips instead of bread with a wonderful sauce. You have to pay if you want bread......very strange especially for the family! We will go back.

The portions are generous and every bite bursts with flavor. We had the corn soup with fried green tomatoes, and it was exquisite. Bacon-wrapped dates? Yummy! The desserts are served in small portions so that you can have more than one - the hazelnut brownie/sauce is amazing! Several dishes are made with fresh local ingredients, and the presentation is beautiful. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but the flavors are worth it! Great place to take clients. I can hardly wait until it warms up so I can have a glass of wine on the outdoor patio and watch the sun set over the ocean. There are heaters and a fireplace on the patio, in case you don't want to wait for summer.

We weren't overly fond of the special Mother's Day fixed menu. The food while while fairly good wasn't worth the price. I might be willing to give them one more chance because it wasn't their regular menu. Perhaps if we had had more choices we would have been more satisfied.

I know it is a new restaurant. Consquently, the service was a little slow. Beautiful restaurant though. We wanted to sit outside and even though they had many tables open, they made us sit inside. I wonder if hotel guests only can eat on the patio? This would make a difference if I book again. Food EXCELLENT

All the food was good, however the desserts left a lot to be desired. A restaurant of this quality, price and location would best be served with better desserts. For instance, lava cake w/rasberry sauce, tiramasu,, cheesecake, creme brule, etc.

  • New restaurant at a new Sheraton
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

New restaurant at a new Sheraton Carlsbad that has a warm trendy ambiance. The draw back were the lack of "smart servers" who lack the knowledge about the food. Erica served me the dishes for lunch and denied it, while Christina was too fast in serving me like a speeding train!! The restaurant manager Scott was very professional enough to understand and listen how the restaurant had failed in some areas.

We picked the restaurant because it boasts unbelievable views, to go along with great food and service. Our outdoor table was just as requested, the problem was that the outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot and as you are struggling to focus on the beautiful sunset, you can't help but stare at the cars that are literally parked in front of you, and all the people (in beach wear, etc) walking up and down. As we set down, it took our waiter over 20 minutes to actually come over to the table, by then my husband went to get our drinks at the bar. That being said, the food is good and the drinks are versatile.

The maitre d' allowed girls in bathing suits and towels, barefoot, at the bar. I thought that was despicable. I didn't recognize any of he wines on the wine list. I loved the selection of cocktails. The bar service was s-l-o-w. However the food was delicious (except for the Risotto). Desserts were also interesting. Overall, we'll be back to give it another try.
