Better than expected - the hanger steak was decent, and the french fries were excellent. Prices are too high, considering the casual nature of the place. This is not fine dining. Service was pleasant but slow and inattentive. Opening the doors to the sidewalk eliminates all cooling by the air conditioning, leaving the restaurant hot and sticky.

  • Madison and Vine was disapointing.

Madison and Vine was disapointing. I had been there before for lunch which was great. The service was terrible at dinner though. When we arrived it was pretty empty, and it still took 20 minutes to get a drink. Then the server FORGOT my husband's order. Not acceptable. His salmon was excellent but the chicken I had was nothing special and the veggies were way over salted. Too bad, it's a convenient spot to Grand Central, lovely inside, but in Manhattan there are far too many other restaurants to enjoy.

The service needs work. Too many waiters talking and laughing behind the bar and not taking notice of customers begging for service. Generally too much talking amongst staff, the Maitre D' consistently laughing and joking with the Lady Receptionist. Hygenine check also needed on all waiting staff. If they sorted this things out it could be a successful restaurant. Until they do, customers will be continually complaining.

Okay for a quick sit down mean even thought a bit pricey for undress salads. I dont recommend this location to discuss business with a client. Perhaps a place where you may take a client for a follow up lunch but not introductory. I wasnt impression at all.. Flat soda - as mentioned undressed salty lettuce and reservation that had us literally sitting 2 feet from the door on a 100 degree day.. Bleh overall.

service could use some improvement. the waiter was not attentive, it took 10 minutes after being seated for him to come over to our table to offer drinks and then it took another 10 minutes to have water on our table. the waiter had forgotten until he saw me wave for him. although it was lunch hour, it was not "crazy" busy where he could have provided better service for our table.

Extensive wine list, great food and friendly service. Staff seemed swamped during my visit, but were polite and attentive. In an area depleted of good restaurants, a great find!

The calamari was tasty. The spaghetti carbonara was very mediocre. My husband said the soup and his steak was good. It was surprising that they didn't have any New York Strip Steak or apple pie left, and our reservation was for 6:15. The drinks were good, and the bar scene was hopping.

I ordered wine without looking at the wine list (my bad) because I was late meeting my friend. they only had 2 kinds by the glass. The waiter didn't say anything (thus my poor service rating above) but I was apalled when I got my bill. $20.00/glass - $40.00 total. My meal was $28.00. I won't make that mistake again.

  • The best part about M & V
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 4/29/2008
The best part about M & V is that is it is near Grand Central. The food was good but not extraordinary. What I remember most is my $35 rack of lamb which only had two lamb chops! This was one of the most extreme examples of overpricing. We actually laughed when it arrived. Poor business move on the part of M & V. Although I am always looking for resturants near to GCT, I wouldn't go back.

This is a great, solid go-to place for lunch. The menu is big enough and simple enough for picky eaters to find We're always happy to find a good place to have lunch in mid-town that isn't too over the top but has good food and drinks.

Madison & Vine is promoted as a wine bar - my friend and I both were unhappy with the wines we ordered by the glass. The staff not only comped the two glasses but comped the replacement as well. That's the way to do things -- I will be back.

The service is usually very slow everytime I have gone. Is it so that we can mull over a business meeting lunch? The food was very nice and the staff was knowledgeable about the specials and how everything was prepared. I would actually go back if I needed to have a discussion over business with clients because the timing allowed for that.

  • The food was mediocre at best
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

The food was mediocre at best - of the 5 plates ordered, we were enthusiastic about one, the scallops appetizer. The frisee salad looked limp, the chicken entree was blase, the salmon entree was overcooked by a mile, and one of the 3 creme brulees (mixed plate) was past runny and headed toward liquid. For a bill of $140 for 2 people, there are a lot better places to go. The service and ambiance were nice, and I might stop by again for a glass of wine, but it won't be on my list for a repeat dinner visit.
