The mushroom pasta that I ordered was excellent and my fellow diners also enjoyed their meals. As it was my husband's birthday, they gave a free dessert which was unexpected! I would have given it higher points if our server actually tried to remember us as we felt neglected at times (asked for ice-tea 3 times and the third time from the busboy before they remembered!). We sat outside at the patio which was great for a more private meal as indoors was quite noisy when we left. All in all, a wonderful time and very good food...we'll be back!

The food was fabulous, but the steaks were enormous -- and I mean enormous! We ordered some appetizers, so I just wish our waiter had suggested we split the entrée (especially at $44 each). A shared steak would have been more than two people could handle. We simply could not finish the meal, and it was a shame to waste.

Love the patio. The food, which I used to think good, was mediocre - the entrees expensive. One member of the party (a chef) found the stuffed calimari 'disgusting'... The mushroom pasta I used to think outstanding, somehow was just 'OK'. The menu hasn't changed for sometime - maybe it needs an update.

It is our second visit at the Basin. A friend who is a wine distributer refered us and it's been a great find. This time we opted to sit outside, since the weather was beautiful. We had a wonderful meal and great service. We took our son and it's now his favorite place too. The only drawback was there must have been something I didn't notice in the chair I sat in. I was wearing white Tommy Bahama shorts and now they are stained. Other than that, We'll be back soon and will recommend the Basin to our friends. Lars

The Basin is quite a unique find. They have an incredible menu with plenty of selections for everyone from a meat lover to a vegetarian. Their small plate selections are out of this world and their service is outstanding. While the restaurant was packed during our visit, this did not impact their flawless service. I have been a mystery shopper for eleven years and have performed over fifteen thousand shops, and I was very impressed with the quality of service and the sumptuous food.

As usual, the meal was excellent. When they did not have the wine we chose in stock, our waiter suggested one and ave us a large taste. It was excellent and a new favorite. The liver and onions (yes liver and onions) is to die for here. Moist and perfectly cooked. You cannot go wrong with the mushroom pasta. Excellent. Love the patio. Very beautiful night under a lit up oak tree.

Whenever my husband and I dine out for a special occasion, this is where we go. The Basin has a certain charm, that keeps us coming back. Not to mention the incredible food... I usually get the fish special, and it has never dissapointed. My husband's favorite is the skirt steak, with its delicious marinade. The staff are very attentive, in an unobtrusive way. There is a small, romantic outdoor seating area that is shaded by a centuries-old oak tree. The two indoor seating areas are a bit small, so the tables are closer together than some might like. On nights when there is a full house, it can be a bit noisy. We think that this adds to the neighborhood charm and character of the restaurant. Overall, a GREAT restaurant!

The service was some of the best we've ever experienced. Bruno was the waietr and both he and the owner/manager anticipated our needs and delighted us. We arrived early and they gave us the choice to sit outside. It was a chilly evening, but they seated us under a heater and moved another over to our table. All was fine until a breeze kicked up. Before we even had a chance to ask, both the waiter and manager approached us to ask if we'd like to move inside. As we ate our appetizer they found us a table inside, prepped it and whisked us away. We had a double anniversary celebration and they brought us not one but two complimentary desserts to share. The food? Oh yes, it was great, too, but I'm out of room here.

First visit and it was exceptional. We took a chance to dine here with friends and we were pleasantly surprised with all aspects of the restaurant. We ordered veal, steak, short ribs, and the mushroom rigaoni for our main dishes and they were all so ejoyable that we had to give each other a taste to fully appreciate how good each dish was. We will definitely be looking forward to dining here again in the near future.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

The Basin is one of the Bay Area's hidden treasures. The owner is obsessive about finding wonderful relatively unknown international affordable wines. Mixed drinks are also excellent. The food has been consistantly outstanding while unpretentious. It's obvious that only premium grades of produce and meat/fish etc are served, and they are organically produced, if possible. Unlike too many better known restuarants, the staff not only express, but also demonstrate their appreciation for our patronage.

Great service, food was excellent. $40 corkage fee for brining a magnum of relatively cheap wine (Cinnabar - Mercury Rising) seemed excessive - recommend to restaurant to waive corkage if a bottle is purchased at the restaurant, or waive corkage if wine is from tasting room up the street (Cinnabar) or from Santa Cruz Mountain region winery. Many Sonoma-based restaurants do something similar when customers bring in wine from the local area. Promotes local businesses and wineries too.
