  • Although the particular fish

Although the particular fish dish I ordered was overcooked and dry, everyone else's entree was delicious, as was the appetizer I ordered--tuna & avocado roll. The decor was warm and relaxing. But the noise level was unbelievable and made it difficult to hear the person right next to me, let alone someone across the table. I might go back on a weeknight hoping it won't be filled and therefore less noisy. But I would never go back on a weekend.

i was a little disappointed this time. the birthday menu was not ready, it was so loud we could not hear each other at the table. the blue cheese potatoes were dry and the order of garlic fries ended up as just fries...but we will dine there at the end of march.

  • Consistently wonderful food
    OpenTable Diner Since 2003

Consistently wonderful food and service (we've dined at Town many times). Our only complaint is the noise level. It's so loud once the place fills up around 6:00 p.m. that you cannot converse at any table without shouting to your dinner partners across the table and even then one must lean forward and strain to hear what is being said. We couldn't wait to get out of there and into the tranquil peacefulness of the night and vowed not to return for quite a while. We're not sure if it's deliberate by design but we feel they need to do something to buffer the noise level. Velvet curtains strategically placed perhaps, a la Izzy's Steak House? or cloth baffles mounted on the walls? I hate to give up enjoying the best burger on the Peninsula.

  • Our table was not ready when
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

Our table was not ready when we arrived but the Maitre'd more than made up for it. He had a delicious appetizer waiting for us when we sat down (complimentary) and when one of our table asked about the drinks menu, he provided samples for the three in our party. He took the time to explain the menu, made us feel extremely welcome and my guests were "wowed" by the service and atmosphere. The waiter provided the same service and overall it was one of the most wonderful dining experiences that i have ever experienced.

  • The food was consistently

The food was consistently good and the service was also very good. However, the noise level in this restaurant is excruciating. We had been warned by others who had been there and even though we had an early reservation our party of five had difficulty hearing one another. If that could be improved it would be such a great restaurant! I think bread at the table wasn't missed after we were told "no bread" but the traditional bread is hospitable so maybe something else when people arrive...olives? crackers? spiced nuts?

  • This was out 1st experience
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004VIP

This was out 1st experience at this restaurant. The ambiance was nice enough the service was good until we got our dinners. Two of our 4 dinners were barely warm, chicken/ribs combo and the rack of ribs. The cole slaw was tired and runny and the skirt steak was not medium rare as ordered....and the most frustrating part was that noone ever checked on how our food was after we got it or we would have tried to send it back and get something else. This was a birthday dinner celebration but we didn't even stay for dessert because of our frustration. I'm very disappointed and will not recommend this to our friends. It's a shame because we've tried the other restaurants owned by this group and have loved them all. We miss A'Tavola!

Generally everything at Town is great. I was very disappointed at this service this past time. It seemed if you sat outside you were disregarded. We had to ask several times for things. Next time I will sit inside so we are noticed. Sorry but service was bad. Rest was Great as always.

This was my third meal at Town, second time for dinner. We were seated next to the bar, which is very, very loud. Food is "meat and potatoes", and all nicely, if not extraordinarily, done. It's a good place to go for a steak. It's lively, but not romantic.

A tastefully designed restaurant - the food was great, the service was excellent. I love the atmosphere- energetic in certain areas and cozy and romantic in others. The type of restaurant people travel to the City (San Francisco) for but conveniently located on the Peninsula.

  • We have been many times but
    OpenTable Diner Since 2002VIP

We have been many times but found the food very disappointing on this visit. The steak was rare (ordered medium) and the salmon was overcooked. At these prices we expect more. Apparently the head chef had the night off and it showed. I'm hesitant to go back anytime soon. Pretty disappointed. The service, however, was excellent.
