The food was outstanding, but the portions were on the small side. The wine list is impressive, but lacking on moderately priced bottles. Service was amiable and efficient. Overall, a very enjoyable and satisfying experience.

I think the positive review were inflated. some dishes were memorable others were mediocre. service poor. ambiance poor. very overpriced. just boils down to more hype than substance, plenty of longstanding remarkable restaurants, dont waste your time or money on this one.

The quality and presentation of the food is top notch, and memorable. Be sure when you reserve your table that you request to be seated in the main dining room. The downstairs dining area alas is within clear view of the kitchen and the constantly swinging service doors..quite distracting and disruptive to the exquisite food that they will undoubtedly serve you.

While inventive, the chef has a love affair with adding a sweet component to too many menu items. As a result, dishes veared out of balance. Many interesting and not frequently found wines on the list but waitstaff wasn't prepared to answer questions about many of them.

Truly excellent, and shockingly well-executed for a first restaurant. Although the service had 2 or 3 (extremely minor) hiccups, you would think this restaurant had been opened by someone who'd been running restaurants for decades and had many stars undre his or her belt.

Majority of dishes (and we tried 6 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts among 3 of us) are conflicted. The contrasting ingredients in the dishes don't complement each other well. They fight against the taste of each other creating noticeable conflict in each bite. The chef tries to do too much.

Had an enjoyable meal here again. Our server, Chris, was accommodating, and relayed questions to the chef for us, and provided thorough answers. Jennifer, the Sommelier, provided enjoyable wine choices, and delicious sherry with our desserts. Service has improved with every visit, and food is still at a high level. Look forward to seeing what the spring menu brings.

I think I will return in 6 months when they have the kinks worked out. All of the fish dishes were overdone. That really surprised me. The lasagna with Sirloin is really SIRLOIN with a tiny meat square called lasagna. Was a little heavy and greasy. No flavor to the skate / wing appetizer. The lamb was tasteless. We ordered it medium and it came RARE with no flavor. Avoid the crepe dessert at all costs.

Overall a great experience. The food was exceptional and considering this place is so popular, the feel was very calm and collected without the usual overcrowded/rushed feeling that comes with being the hot new restaurant. I was one of the best dining experiences I've had in New York, and in my top 5 overall. I would definitely go back.

  • Everything about this restaurant

Everything about this restaurant was lovely until we sat down to eat. Our waitress, who was attentive until Dustin Hoffman arrived and appeared star struck, completely ignored us and we were forced to notify the management about this lack of service. Appetizers were very good but my main course of fish was overly salted. My companion enjoyed his meal. This was definitely not a 3 star experience - 2 stars at best. After we complained about the service the maitre d was very accommodating but our waitress seemed insulted and barely acknowledged us.

after hearing the good reviews about dovetail, my date and i tried it. the setting was merely fine...nice townhouse and spacious but a bit staid. service seemed great at first but had many hiccups. when we took some time to find a bottle of wine, our server took forever to check in and see if we found anything. i waited nearly 20 minutes after finishing dessert before someone asked if we wanted our check. as for food, it was quite good. the veal ragu with gnocchi was heavy but good. the duck was one of the best preparations ive had. my date's cod from the tasting menu was light and good. i probably wont go out of my way for dovetail as we dont live in the area but its definitely a top spot along with telepan.

the appetitzers and entres were very well done - tasty, satisfying, well presented. The desserts were silly and stupid. They represented the chef's achievements in handling tricky ingredients instead of (and showed a lack of) offering the patron true dessert satisfaction.
