Food was very good, as was the service. (We sat in the lower level) Our only problem was from the bar. Every wine glass (we had three) had sticky stems, and/or wine had dripped down onto the foot of the glass, and hadn't been cleaned off. We related this to our waiter.

The cod was excellent, as was the sirloin and lasagna. The little peanut butter granola was a great touch! We had a delicious Reisling as well. We did have a 10pm reservation, but when we walked in at 9 they sat us right away. I always think that's peculiar when it's so hard to get a reservation and then half the restaurant is open. Glad they sat us at least! Beautiful space, lovely staff, and delicious food/wine!

Truely a rare dining experience. My second visit and i hope to return soon. Portion sizes are perfect, and the combination of flavors that the chef puts together is wonderful. Dovetail is my new crush. The only problem with Dovetail is getting a reservation. As a real estate broker on the UWS i brought a customer there that I recently sold an apartment to and she now has a new crush as well. Andrew Phillips

The food was superb--truly special, and so was the service. The table itself was a problem--it was a big round table and looked like it could seat 8. This was a business dinner and I made the reservation for 6, but only 5 came. Five people seated at this huge table meant you really couldn't talk to the people across. It would have been a lot nicer if the table had been more intimate. It looked like many tables were for 2--maybe you could have a few for 6 instead. I made the reservation a month ahead and still couldn't get the time I wanted, which was annoying! Still, with the amazing food, I wish you good luck! The peanut granola at the end was a nice touch--and the round white cookies!

it was mostly very good. We had the tasting menu. Staff was so concerned with not dragging it out too long that they pushed it a bit. I had to ask them to slow down twice so we could finish one course before they brought out the next. Never got my coffee either. Staff was attentive and tried hard but could use better training. Wine list was pricey.

We had a very pleasant experience at Dovetail and overall were quite impressed and happy. The food was excellent although the appetizer portions should have been larger. Service was good and professional in all respects and we appreciated not being rushed. Noise could have been a bit lower and tablecloths and more interesting table flowers would have been nice. I would definitely return.

Service was really very good. Our waiter was very helpful helping us make our food choices. The food is the best I've had on the Upper West Side. I thought the appetizers were the strongest. My friend and I shared the pork belly, gnocchi and asparagus. Each was spectacular. We both had the scallops for a main course and while they were very good, they weren't spectacular. I thought there was too much going on with them and too many competing flavors that shouldn't co-exist in the same dish. The corn bread was delicious but a little greasy. I wasn't crazy about the other two amuse bouches. For wine, I had a glass of the Pinot Noir and a bottle of very reasonably priced and very good Alvarinho. We didn't have dessert.

I had really high expectation for dovetail and I have a very picky mouth. Dined there for Sunday supper. I must say the brisket was good at first yet somehow I didnt enjoy it so much after the 2nd bite. I appreciate the tenderness yet everything got quite mushy n the mix of diff spice wasnt a hit for me. I had to gulp it down to finish the plate. The cod was not bad but again, I didnt have the urge to lick off of my plate. The chef did a very good job surprise the customer but failed to sustain the momentum. my fav was the comp caviar not cuz it was comp but cuz it was one bite w many spice n it left me wanting more. the one thing that I will be talking about w my friend would be the pana cotta dessert. Omg good. Entrée should be simpler

The food was excellent and creative. The duck was cooked perfectly and the bread pudding for desert was fantastic. The wine list was good with a reasonable selection of reasonably priced bottles with a good smattering of very special occasion bottles tossed in for good measure. The service could be better. The staff was friendly and attentive but the timing was a bit off. Our bottle of wine showed up after our first course arrived and the first half of the meal felt rushed with the second and third courses having much more lag between them. It was certainly not bad enough to kill the experience but they do need some work to raise the service to the quality of the food.

There are a lot of bugs to be worked out.Busyness generated by good reviews appears to have sidetacked or perhaps even derailed the operation. The bar and waiting area are poorly designed and small and the room is awkward. The noise level could only be described as cacophonous. The food was significantly oversalted(this comment coming from someone who likes salt).Unless there is an attempt to redress these issues , I would stay away.

My only complaint about Dovetail is that it has been discovered, so i can't go as often as i'd like! The food is stupendous - that salmon appetizer is gorgeous and the gnocchi with veal is equally wonderful. John Fraser was the chef when we had our daughter's Bat Mitzvah at Compass. Our guests were overwhelmed with the delicious food. If possible, his talent has grown, and hopefully, so too will Dovetail's already glowing reputation.

Absolutely fantastic - one of the best meals I've had in New York. The food was creative and delicious, from the amuse bouche to the dishes themselves, and the service was impeccable. We loved the five-course tasting menu(although it was difficult to pass up all of the other dishes on the menu). I also thought it was a nice touch when they brought some bananas with candles and white chocolate near the end of the menu since I had mentioned when making the reservation that it was my boyfriend's birthday. I never mentioned it again, and yet they still recognized it in a subtle way that was really classy. Highly recommended to others and I will definitely be back.

I think I will return in 6 months when they have the kinks worked out. All of the fish dishes were overdone. That really surprised me. The lasagna with Sirloin is really SIRLOIN with a tiny meat square called lasagna. Was a little heavy and greasy. No flavor to the skate / wing appetizer. The lamb was tasteless. We ordered it medium and it came RARE with no flavor. Avoid the crepe dessert at all costs.

Everything about this restaurant was lovely until we sat down to eat. Our waitress, who was attentive until Dustin Hoffman arrived and appeared star struck, completely ignored us and we were forced to notify the management about this lack of service. Appetizers were very good but my main course of fish was overly salted. My companion enjoyed his meal. This was definitely not a 3 star experience - 2 stars at best. After we complained about the service the maitre d was very accommodating but our waitress seemed insulted and barely acknowledged us.
