I have been going there since i was a child with my family. this is a neighborhood restaurant or close to home. this is a classic traditional meat place with only prime rib and there are imitations but none that compare. the management was friendlier than before - we had four kids and they were great with them these kids aged from a range of 3-8. food is timeless there.

The martinis are on point and the food was delicious. Not to mention the whole spectacle of the room was quite entertaining. The menu is basically how do you like your prime rib and the rest of the meal is included with options such as baked potato or mashed potato w/dark gravy. Simple and affordable. Highly recommended especially when family is in town.

Our group of 13 had a wonderful time. The food was outstanding--I know it is the best prime rib in the city. The cream spinach was outstanding. Every time we go there we try and figure the ingredients in it. Also everyone ate every bite of the delicious salad as well as the French bread and corn bread. Needless to say, it is diet time today! The table was beautiful with flowers and candles and everyone could see each other and talk to one another. A fabulous party!

Usually a quality establishment, I was surprised at our experience: - Our party was on time. Uncle had to run to his car to get something which was in front. We were told that we couldn't be seated. This told me that the hostess didn't even note our group was present together; my uncle was there 15 minutes prior to the reservation. - Party of 8 was seated in a booth which had serving issues due to the lack of space. - Bussers reached over my face to serve cornbread or removing plates. Seemed like they were short waiters; ours rocked. - Fish was great, but not every cut of Prime Rib was consistent. Dad's piece was a poor cut. Salad was lackluster but good dressing. Sides good. - Dad's bday noted in reservation but no

My partner made reservations at House of Prime Rib to celebrate my 39th birthday. I had never been there before, but I've heard/read so many good reviews about it. With all that hype, I wanted to see for myself what the buzz was all about. I was pleasantly surprised! The ambience was great- unique and lively. Our server, April, made me feel special being there for my birthday. And her service was outstanding! I enjoyed my King Cut. It was very hearty and delicious. Although April asked us later if we wanted more, I really couldn't imagine having anymore because I was so full! Overall, House of Prime Rib is a great place. It's pricy, but definitely worth it if you're planning to celebrate a special occasion! I'm sure I'll be back sometime.

  • Our waitress was FANTASTIC!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 10/12/2008
Our waitress was FANTASTIC! But. The maitre d on Sunday night seemed to be working in a different restaurant from the rest of the always-gracious staff of HoPR. He was merely pretentious with our party, but he was borderline-rude with several other patrons. A shame -- and a really unusual one -- in a place where everyone is there to have a garrulous good time. There seems to be a lot of confusion today between "gracious service" and "acting fancy." HoPR consistently excels at the former but -- with a toad like this fellow at the front desk -- sets an incongruous tone of the latter. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that any number of six-tops turned and walked out when confronted with this guy and his attitude.

We had heard about this place often and were delighted we made the trip. The prime rib is their specialty and is truely outstanding. We liked that the meal price includes a salad (yummy dressing), potato, side, and Yorkshire pudding. The only drawbacks were that the booth was a little awkward and the waitress left a lot to be desired. She was busy, and kept forgetting our requests. The bus boy was terrific with making sure the water glasses were filled.

We have been going to HOPR for many years and have always considered it one of the great San Francisco institutions. However, with each visit, there has been more things to be disappointed with. Although it was packed and loud, it seemed to be filled with a lot of testosterone hungry tourists, yelling expletitives unnecessarily; the harried wait staff were somewhat rude and actually shoved a chair into the legs of our guest with no apology. I thought the food was still delicious but the atmosphere has gone down hill.

If you're in the mood for Prime Rib this is THE place to go. The menu is only 2 pages long and basically describes the different cuts of prime rib that is served. Fish is offered as well, but why would you want to order fish at a restaurant that boasts prime rib? The meat is brought tableside and carved in front of you and once placed inside your mouth, it just melts. I went there for my birthday and it seems that at every other table around us, there was someone else celebrating a birthday too. The service was great, friendly and attentive and kept my water glass full. Be sure to make reservations before you go because this place is busy even on weeknights.

I can't recommend the House of Prime Rib too highly. I live in Santa Barbara, and every time I'm in San Francisco I head right to it, knowing that the consistency of this establishment will always bring me dining pleasure. Indeed, every aspect of the restaurant, from the quality, healthfulness and variety of the food, to the impeccable service, to the reasonable prices (given these qualities) is of the highest order. It's a must!!

They told me that it'd be no problem and it was more important for us to drive safely. Really great food, the sides are delicious. We also found out that if you order the house cut or larger, that you get MORE meat if you are able to finish the cut you ordered.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 9/20/2008
I LOVE House of Prime Rib! They start you off with hot, freshly baked sourdough bread, so hot you can smell the sourdough practically before it reached your table. You have a choice of several different cuts of prime rib (I usually get the HOPR cut - love the meat on the bone!), along with creamed spinach (or corn), baked potato (or mashed potatoes) with all the fixings (bacon, chives, sour cream, butter) and Yorkshire pudding to sop up the juices. Their dessert selection is also wonderful, and I have on a couple of occasions chosed the Fantasy Cake - three layers including chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, and cheesecake on a layer of raspberry sauce. Yum! A bit loud at times, hard to get Sat night reservations. Overall: FABULOUS!

House of Prime Rib is one of San Francisco's best restaurants, both for everyday dining and for special occasions. As the name implies, the menu is limited to prime rib, though there is a fish dish available as well. However, the quality of the food makes the experience well worth the price. I cannot recommend this establishment enough. An excellent choice for any and all occasions.

A classic restaurant in San Francisco. I remember going there as a little girl in the late 70s. The prime rib is excellent. I also love the salad dressing. However, the last time I had it, it was too wet. I don't think that the lettuces were dried properly. When I crave beef especially during the winter, the Prime Rib House is a cozy place to dine.

We visited the House of Prime Rib to celebrate my Grandmother's eightieth birthday. I have to say that the food and service were excellent, and the only thing that I could fault the experience with was that it was rather loud inside. There was a table across from us celebrating a bachelor party, and those guys were extremely loud (yelling obscene things and being very distracting) and I was very glad when they left. The overall atmosphere was still rather loud even after that table vacated, so it isn't what I would call private or even romantic. The prime rib is top caliber, simply the best I've ever eaten- but don't expect a quiet little meal, unless they are not busy (and this was a rather busy Saturday evening).

We had a reservation. We had to wait and then saw numerous couples seated. Asked the waiter what was going and was given an answer that didn't make sense, "we are seating those with reservations." I complained to management there and was advised to take a seat. We were given free drinks, which we consumed and because we had still not been seated, we left and went to Crustecan a Korean seafood restuarant. I really wanted a steak and as a life long San Franciscan, wanted to go to the House of Prime Rib. Butthey treated me badly and if I want a steak in SF now, I'll go to Mortons or to Ruth Chris.
