The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. Enjoy ocean-side dining just steps from the New England Aquarium. Our restaurant couldn’t be more convenient to the Financial District, Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall and waterfront hotels. We think a visit to Boston must include a meal at Legal Sea Foods.

We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” (USA Today, 2013), “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

In February I took my team out for an appreciation lunch and that day the food was not up to par. I was asked to do this survey and reviewed honestly. Legal was very quick to contact me to find out more about our experience. The same people went back this week and everything was fantastic. The fried clams were amazing, my grilled salmon with asparagus and truffled mushrooms was very good too. One of the members of our party had the baked stuffed shrimp and said it was very good. The other ordered the crab cake sandwich and he also said it was excellent. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We will certainly be back.

Every time I visit Boston, I have to stop at Legal Seafood at least once during my visit. My niece was visiting from the Midwest and never had lobster before. She had a great first experience with that sea creature during her visit!

When I am in Boston I always look forward to visiting a Legal Seafoods location. The selection and freshness of the items is always good no matter which location I visit. This location was on the Boston waterfront in a very tourist location, but other than hard to get in, their service and quality meet all standards. It is family friendly as well as having a good adult options.

Of the four meals ordered, two meals were very good and two were a miss. The crab cakes were heavily mayo-ed making them more like crab salad. The Lobster Roll had way too much celery seed in it and at $26, very dissappointing. These Re not difficult dishes to get right, crab and lobster - easy! Service way just OK, other tables appeared to be better served by other waiters. The other dishes we ordered, calamari, blue fish, seafood grill, we're very good.

I've been to several Legals over many years. This particular location is not my favorite because of how crowded with tourists it gets. Even though we had reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table. Our server was ok but a little combative and had to spend much of his table service poking at his little electronic tablet while entering our order. More eye contact would have been appreciated. The food was typically very fresh and good. Amazing that with being that busy, they got our food to our table that fast. Maybe it's those stupid little tablets!

As we wanted to avoid long wait on a Saturday night, we booked our table online weeks in advance. We arrived 10 minutes early and ended up having our table over 40 minutes past our reservation time! We saw a party of 5 walking in 20 minutes after us, right from the street and they got their table within 10 minutes! Pointless reservation!!!! In addition, the service was very slow, the food was good but not outstanding, for the price and with 2 kids, we got seated in the bar section. Overall we were disappointed. I would say the best time to go is after 9pm on weekend.

I am from Chicago I go to Legal anytime we are in town. Food as always was solid. We had a cold shellifh platter and it was good maybe a bit on the small side to serve 4-8 people. I have had others with more shrimp. Main dishes were very good. And the Boston Cream Pie is great. This is also the first time I have had there wine flight and I thought it was good as well as a fair value. Overall very enjoyable.

We had a delicious meal here! We have been here before, loved it, came back! Location is perfect, scenic. We were seated on time, service was very professional, great wait staff. Loved our server, Caitlain (sp?) SO nice, very professional, very thoughtful.... Food was great.... I had the Cioppino, delish, husband had the pasta with shrimp... also delish! We split a mixed salad (very big!)... Fresh, warm baked rolls...... terrific dinner, we will be back, for sure!! Thanks Legal Seafoods!

So disappointed with setting, food and overall experience. Fried seafood platter looked like leftovers thrown in a heap on the plate. Asparagus, which I paid extra for was tough and inedible. The waiter casually said oh really, sorry about that and made no effort to substitute or comp out. Large whole lobsters were tough and over cooked, steamed clams tough and plethora of mussels were smaller than peanuts. Crab cake tasteless. Should have returned to Atlantic Fish Company which is about the same price but with so much better food, service and setting. Will not recommend or return EVER!!

Went on a date with my partner. He got the wild salmon and I got the bluefish. They both turned out really good. Also got a glass of sangria and a watermelon crush. Both drinks are out of this world. Patrick snow and Power, managers, were quite busy but still found time to visit and say hi to us. kelly was amazing as a server, very knowledgeable regarding the menu and the drink list. Everyone seems very friendly. They had a busy Friday night but it didn't change the fact the service was kept at a high standard. Overall, I am very happy like I always am throughout the many times that I dine at Legal Seafood Lord Wharf.

We had a party of 12 and although I tried to make the reservation online it would not let me and said I had to call and when I called, the day before, she said sorry it won't let me put it in. Bye! I logged in and made the reservation for 8 and they called me an hour and a half before to confirm and they let me add the others. They would have missed out on a big party. I recommended it to my sister who went the next day. The clam chowder is amazing!

Recommended by a friend as one of their favorites. Now I know why! Great ambiance, helpful staff, and food that was off the hook (pun intended). I've traveled and experienced many styles of crab cakes, but these were the best. Meaty with a great taste, and just a hint of flavored stuffing to hold it together. We had them twice more during our stay and their consistant flavor was well delivered. I not only thanked my friends, but I'm making it a point to pay it forward and recommend, with honors!

We've been eating at Legal's for years. Service and food has always been top notch. We ate lunch here last week and I got the Seafood Assortment for $28. The shrimp and scallops were good but the cut of the swordfish was HORRIBLE. It was literally the most brown part of the cut that they probably used as scrape from the swordfish entrée. At first, I thought it was bluefish and I was looking for the swordfish but then I realized what it was. Awful. We were hungry and didn't have much time for lunch so we didn't bother sending it back. This particular Legal's was in a tourist location and I feel that they think they can get away with more because tourists don't know any better. We were definitely disappointed and not in a rush to go back.

I have been a huge Legal Seafood fan for 30+ years now (and will write a review about a recent lunch at the Prudential Center location which was fantastic!), but this specific dinner was underwhelming. Despite raving about Legal to a work colleague in town for the week, the evening's meal was lacking. The chowder was fine but seemed a little bland, the salad was excellent, and the Lobster Bake was okay. I think I've been spoiled by Legal's excellent and consistent meals over the years, which is why this was just okay. The lobster was delicious and expertly cracked by our outstanding server Abigail, and the steamers had too many large ones, the mussels were excellent but the chorizo was lacking. Hopefully it was just an off night.

I selected two different sides with my entree, when it arrived; I received two large baked potatoes. (...and the kitchen did not find this odd?) By the time the correct side arrived (sautéed mushrooms) we had finished eating dinner. The young server was quite casual and a bit cheeky throughout the meal. Be forewarned, this restaurant is in an area with high tourist foot traffic and is apparently accustomed to its transient clientele with lower expectations. We had set out for a celebratory dinner and were disappointed.

Red Lobster wishes they were Legal Sea Food. I won't compare this with a high-end seafood restaurant. That is just not fair, but if you are a fan of chain restaurants, this one will spoil you forever. The menu is fun. The food is fresh. The service is exception. The ambiance is trendy. Sure it is not as cool as some hidden gem and the Yelpers will likely snub their noses, but taking a group here after a conference, or bringing your family here after a day of sight-seeing, would be the right choice.

Everything we ordered was very well executed, from the calimari Rhode Island style to the crabcakes which are close to the best I've ever had anywhere. It's quite informal, with a lot of clientele coming right off the whale watch boats or right out of the new aquarium, both just yards away. Highly recommended, but make sure to get a reservation if you're heading there for dinner.

I had someone visiting from out of town and they really wanted Seafood. I expected I couldn't go wrong bringing them to Legal. Was very disappointed. Fish was very overcooked, very dry and poorly seasoned. We both got the 'chef's choice' of 3 on a cedar plank. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to send it back. Waiter never checked back to see if everything was cooked properly so we couldn't advise was poorly prepared.

Eaten here many, many times. As advertised, nice fresh seafood well prepared. Fish chowder is our favorite of any restaurant. This time, kitchen/service was very slow, especially for lunch, >90 minutes from seating to check paid for fish chowder fish. We like the seafood and they are allergy-friendly with managers double-checking when allergies are involved. Only (slight) complaint is the menu is pretty much the same as it's been for years... same limited selection of fish, same preparations, same sides. It's very good, but it's starting to get old.

Lol our waiter (forgot his name but he's bald and from manhattan) was the best!! He brought our spirits up because we hesitated coming out from the storm. We waited 40 min for our food! Our waiter who just woke up kept forgetting our order. He disappeared right after we ordered appertizer for 15min. He shows up with our appertizer and remembered we haven't ordered our meal. Then, we waited 40 MINUTES for our food to arrive! The waiter kept avoiding our table. We would see him go to other tables, chatting with people but he never would come by our table. We had to ask another waiter to go check on our order and that's when someone brought us our food! It's ridiculous to wait that long for a meal. What's worse is that they hand out their "pledge" sheet where one of it is to serve food promptly.
