A word from Oak and Almond
Oak and almond wood fuels our wood burning oven and stove. Imparting an earthy quality to many of our menu items, these hardwoods are at the heart of our restaurant's philosophy.

With cuisine inspired by the traditions & techniques of yesteryear, our philosophy is simple: provide delicious handcrafted food, created with well sourced seasonal ingredients with a focus on hearth & flame. We source the best artesian ingredients and prepare them simply with respect. The wine program highlights biodynamic and organic selections, which compliment the simple integrity of our menu.

An 18 foot communal table, crafted from local 100 year old oak floorboards anchors the dining room. Hand-rubbed walnut tables, industrial fixtures, and an open kitchen featuring a wood burning oven and stove provide a modern yet warm dining experience.

We found that the food was just above average, we could defiantly see potential. We would try it again. It was not what I would consider a place for foodies, they would need to step it up a notch. We always ask for a romantic table & we were sat in a middle of what looked like a dining hall (which seemed to be their only room open) with kids and all the other evening patrons. This was one of the least romantic tables/atmosphere we have sat at in a long time. The decor was a little 2 rustic, not enough charm. Do not go by the on line menu, only 2-3 items are actually being served. The waiter was good and pleasurable. We may recommend it next time.

This was our second visit and we persuaded some friends to join us. Once again, truly enjoyed the food - the crudo and the octopus were fabulous; the shrimp with chorizo was very flavorful. Unfortunately, service was lacking. After finishing first bottle of wine, we ordered a second. Waiter started pouring before my husband noticed it was the wrong wine so waiter sent someone to replace it; the second waiter came back again as he didn't understand what was wrong and by the time the wine arrived, we had finished our entrees. Similarly, my husband ordered dessert - a simple cookie - it arrived after everyone had finished their coffee. I will definitely go here again as I love the food, but they need to step up on the service.

Good food with interesting combinations like the pork belly + Local clam (a lot of food for an appetizer) and the braised rabbit pasta dish was good as well. Appreciated the waitress' offer to give us a bottle (at a good price) of a wine that was offered by the glass on the wine list.

. I had read some mixed reviews prior to going to the restaurant, so I wanted to experience for myself. My friend and I picked 5 items from the share plate side of the menu. They were out of 2 of the 5 choices we asked for.,I couldn't understand why our waitress did not inform us of that before we started ordering. When we did place the order, we were finally served ice cold bread and butter (ahhh!) We asked if it could be warmed. All in all the wait staff was only ok and I can't believe the host was not at his station when we arrived, there was a handwritten note informing us someone would return shortly! What are you kidding me! Unfortunately I will not return.

Oak and Almond is new and promising. The décor is very well done. We will go back. Unfortunately, we were there when few others were, and as often happens the waiters forget about the clients, because they are doing their catch-up chores from earlier in the day. This is sad, since the owner/managers were present and knew the service was slack, and they did not seem to care. These are fixable problems, though, and we hope this restaurant will improve its service. It is a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Lots of parking in a convenient location--not to mention delicious food--makes Oak + Almond a big-time winner. Wood-burning ovens in the open kitchen just add to the restaurant's allure. The only hard part is deciding what to order because it's all good. We're working out way through the menu as we speak.

This is my second time going. It's really a great new place to get farm-to-table cuisine. I spoke with the owner for a while, who is very nice and knowledgable. I really liked him. I am definitely going back. Overall, the food is really outstanding but the service on this particular occasion was questionable. Our waiter didn't write our order down and so he ultimately forgot that I ordered two dishes. He said he forgot and would get right on it but he didn't bring it until our meal was complete. I didn't end up eating it at all, the dish was $6.00, should have been complementary. Don't really care about $6.00 but the principle. At any rate, overall great food, and will definitely go back, just not for lunch but for dinner.

Had the wood roasted chicken which was amazing. The waiter offered recommendations based on what was available that day versus a blanket "everything is good". Nice modern feel to the restaurant with a spacious outdoor patio with a fireplace. The wood burning oven makes for great flavors for the main courses and the flat bread pizzas. We'll be back whenever we're in the area.

We were so looking forward to this dining experience, which fell well short of expectations, both with respect to food and service. While it offers a nice outdoor dining setting, the indoor dining was much too smoky and overcrowded with tables for comfort. Too much of the food was finger food and not conducive to sharing. Our wait person was mostly absent and not attentive. We will not return and cannot recommend this expensive dining spot to any of our friends.

Flatbread pizzas are probably the high light of the menu. Hamburger is very good, but for $16.00 it should be terrific! Items may be more expensive than they're worth. A good spot if you're in the neighborhood, but not worth a trip.

Oak and Almond is making a strong effort on its relaunch but isn't quite there yet. The ingredients are creative and of good quality but the execution isn't where it needs to be. The appetizers were better than the entrees such as the locally made burrata. The fluke crudo was tasty but needed better knife work. The braised rabbit pasta was too rich and overloaded with cheese for an entree - may be better as an appetizer or even better lightened up some way. Our server did a good job fielding a bunch of questions from the table and sought answers right from the kitchen when stumped. Its a convenient location so we look forward to trying it again in a couple of months to see how it develops.

Wednesday evening, there was a nice vibrant buzz, but not hyper. The bass was beautifully prepared and paired with complimentary vegetable flavours. The griddled chicken was amazing, perhaps better fit for a winter evening with yummy potatoes and rich reduction. Caeser salad was beautiful and big enough to be an entree. Everything was high quality and fresh. Servers were helpful and checked in regularly, but did not hover. We were allowed to sit long after our meal was finished without concern for clearing the table or collecting the check.

This was my second time at Oak + Almond, and this time we sat on outside on the patio. The food and wine were great and the atmosphere is fantastic. Great patio dining area with outdoor fireplace, tons of ambiance and a lively atmosphere. Food was a little over priced but good, and the Malbec complimented well. Service was unfortunate and due to an apparent computer glitch, my husband's steak finally arrived as the rest of the table was finishing their entrées. After repeated attempts to get someone's attention to settle the bill, the owner/manager came out to personally apologize which we appreciated. He compted my husband and graciously offered an incentive to come back....which we will do. The restaurant is new and although maybe suffering some teething problems, is well worth a second chance. We will be back and look forward to recommending it to friends!

It tries hard but underwhelms. There are a lot of better places out there for the money. We split an appetizer of pork and mozzarella meatballs - good, spicy, and a generous portion but came only lukewarm. Caesar salad (with bacon? why?) and hardboiled eggs was just OK. A cheese platter was pretty good. A bit pricey considering we ordered no entrees.

Really slow service, cliff from kitchen to table is like a mote around a castle as the quality of the food is truly well worth the visit but once it leaves the chef's hands it's a big drop in worthiness to wait. In general this is a decent redo of the prior Tuscan Oven space but I'm of the belief it simply can't survive on Merritt 7 business customers alone for that is what makes this place stay alive for sure.
