A word from Metro Lafayette
Metro Lafayette has received a prestigious Michelin Guide Recommendation the past four years and is Zagat-rated. Merging urban sophistication with a relaxed suburban attitude, the restaurant is a stylish destination serving big city food. With the largest outdoor patio in the East Bay, it's the perfect place for al fresco dining. The menu features an eclectic mix of dishes, such as Gnocchi Parisienne with roasted winter squash, caramelized onions, brown butter & sage; Cassoulet
of duck leg & pork confit, house-made Toulouse sausage & cannellini beans; Roasted Sea Bass with fingerling potatoes & piquillo pepper sauce; and Pan-roasted Prince Edward Island Mussels in white wine-herb broth with Acme toast. With a raw bar, full bar, small plates, entrees and late night menu, Metro offers something delicious for all occasions.

Service was impeccable; wait staff being very attentive. The food was also excellent except for two small items: the tuna poke should be served in a larger martini glass so when you dig into it, it doesn't spill all over the table. Also, my halibut with root vegetables was cooked to perfection, however lacked flavor (like my husband's black cod, which was fabulous). Other than that, our Metro experience was terrific!

Food was very good and server was wonderful. Three friends & I had an early (5:45pm) dinner reservation and it started out quite lovely. However, the noise level continued to rise as the evening passed to the point when we left we could hardly have a table conversation. We all attributed the noise level to the fact that it was a Friday evening and the bar was very crowded.

Very sleek, modern restaurant. Nice menu. We had the lunch special - crab sandwich with a cup of pea soup. Fresh, delicious and nicely presented. Wait staff was great - very friendly! Large patio looks nice for a warm day. Would like to try the weekend Jazz Brunch on the patio. And unlike a lot of restaurants these days, it wasn't too noisy - you could actually have a conversation. Will definitely go back!! Bar looks nice too! And I like how you don't feel that you're in a shopping center.

  • An astonishingly good restaurant.

An astonishingly good restaurant. It has San Francisco/New York City polish in a suburban setting. The Tuna Poke was the best we have ever had, and the fancy cocktails (they call them Martinis, but just because you put it in a martini glass, doesn't make it a Martini) were really tasty! They had a chipotle pear cocktail that was outstanding, and the strawberry mojito was refreshing, delicious and huge! They were very accomodating with kids and we could see how this would be a great place for a family outing, as well as a great place for a quiet romantic dinner. The sunday brunch/lunch had a Jazz combo that provided really pleasant background entertainment during the meal. We will definately return, and tell our friends about it!

This was our first visit for dinner and was chosen based on a friend's recommendation. The entrance is behind the restaurant in a shopping mall parking lot and is difficult to locate. The restaurant has a pleasant contemporary atmosphere. The black cod was definitely outstanding and the spicy sausage and arugla pasta was absolutely the best pasta dish I've ever had. Moderately priced for such quality meals, wine and service. It is our new favorite place. We're looking forward to having brunch or lunch outside where there is ample seating.

It's interesting you should ask me now because I've been to Metro many times, and 3/18 lunch was the worst. Every other time has been great. 3 of us ordered the same shrimp/arugula salad, & it came out 3 different ways: only 1 with olives, 1 with only a few garbanzo beans, and 1 with a nice portion of garbanzo beans. We complained to the manager, and she was very nice but didn't bother to reduce our bill at all (which seems to be standard practice elsewhere). She said there was someone new in the kitchen. Every other time I've had wonderful food and service, both for lunch & dinner. My favorite waitress at lunch is Donna. LOVE the outdoor seating.

I loved the food and would like to eat outdoors next time. I was with a friend, but don't think it would be good for a quiet, romantic dinner date. The noise level is high and the tables for two are too close together.

  • Everyone in our group of four
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

Everyone in our group of four enjoyed our lunch at the Metro. Two of our group had the Tri-tip Salad, I had the Gulf Shrimp Salad, and another companion the Smoked lox on a pancake. Although the Metro has a reputation of being somewhat noisy in the evening, lunch/brunch at the Metro is very pleasant. It was not warm enough to sit outside, but the patio is very inviting on a warm day. The age of our group ranged from 59-72, and I hope more 50+ would give the Metro a try, especially for lunch and brunch. It might become their favorite spot to hang-out. One can tell that the Metro uses the freshest ingredients and organic poultry/meat. I always leave there satisfied and energized. This is a gem in Lafayette.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 3/13/2008
The menu tends to French bistro, but depends on the quality of ingredients available. The fish soup is wonderful, in the style of the Veneto. The wild mushroom bruschetta is creative and satisfying. These two together make for a terrific lunch. The service is good and the staff is knowledgeable. Nice wine list and the bartender is talented. Lunch outside is comfortable when weather permits. The decor is a bit industrial and there is nothing to absorb the noise which can get loud during packed evenings. This should not deter for the food is so very good.

The service was very slow and the restaurant was not busy. We have been there other times where the service was better but there is room for improvement. The menu needs to be changed more frequently for those of us that are in the neighborhood and eat there often.

We started sitting outside as it was so beautiful, however the jazz combo was too loud and we were w/ an elderly aunt who speaks very softly. Going indoors was better w/a view of the sun, if we would have gone into the darker restaurant if would have been more quiet, but not sunny at all. Service was terrific, even the chef came out at one point! We definately will consider coming back for dinner.

live jazz in the courtyard is terrific but a little loud...you can eat inside and have a nice view of the courtyard and it is quieter, but then you are inside...either way...wonderful staff and terrific food that is very reasonably priced make this a find. Have had brunch, lunch and dinner and we were all pleased with our experience and would highly recommend to others. Lots of parking too.
