A word from Deseo at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa
Showcasing imaginative Nuevo Latin cuisine, deseo’s (deseo is Spanish for “desire”) menu features a distinctive and skillfully blended combination of flavors to create delicious dishes that are bold and intriguing. This style of cooking takes traditional Latin American dishes and reinvents them using European and American cooking techniques and often non-traditional ingredients. The perfect start to dinner at deseo is to “descansar” or “relax” with a freshly created cocktail at the adjacent Muddle Bar, which specializes in blending fresh fruits (mango, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and more) with fresh herbs (basil, tarragon, mint and more) along with your favorite spirit for the perfect pre-dinner cocktail.

Over rated. The wait staff was stretched thin - ours was very attentive in the beginning, then disappeared after she took our order. The courses were delivered by others after long waits in between. No explanation or apology. The food was outstanding with the exception of the sea bass. It tasted like it was over saturated in oil, perhaps not cooked at a high enought temperature? Loved the artist in residence and sorry we did not make a purchase with him.

The food and service were both excellent. It has a Cuban theme. You'll love the cerviches. Three of us had the Ecuadorian Cerviche and one of us had an ahi tuna which he loved. Everyone loved their dinners which comprised of 2 different fish dinners (Mahi Mahi and Bass), steak and a lamb dish.

Ceviche was exceptionally good - very fresh. Outdoor dinning can be very intimate and romantic in certain locations. Decor was very chic, but it seems like everyone has that style and it is getting a little bit overused. Service was decent. Desert was only fair in flavor, but the platings were very pleasing and creative - a nice way to end a meal!

The food was definitely outstanding with sauces and flavors we totally enjoyed. The decor is just a little above coffee shop - no tablecloths, no black napkins for those customers wearing black, lighting average. The service is poor. After being seated, no one approached our table for quite some time. Finally a busboy asked if we would like to see a menu. We requested a black napkin from three different people. None of them returned to say they did not have black napkins. During the meal the server did stop by occasionally to check on us. When we no longer had any wine nor food on our table, we again sat for quite some time waiting for a bill. The poor service may discourage us from returning.

Deseo has a lovely ambience and very attentive service. The prices are "Scottsdale" so read that as high. The vegetable side dish was overcooked, but the entrees were cooked right...the lamb was a bit too cold, indicating it was not picked up immediately for service. However, the lamb was quite tasty, and the sea bass was nice as well. The portions for the price were undersized, a negative. Would we go back again....probably not. The wines were overpriced, the portions were undersized, and since Scottsdale has so very many good restaurants, this one will not be beckoning us to return.

We had heard good things about Deseo and were happy that they are all true. We arrived early to have a drink at the bar. The service was a bit slow but they more than compensated by not charging us for the drinks! The food is excellent. We shared a cevechi trio then a goat cheese empanada for appetizers. Our main courses were a tuna special and the lamb. Try the side of chic peas and spinach - it's yummy. The chocolate cigar desert was the perfect ending to a great meal. We'll be back.

I made a reservation for 12 people. It was a VIP group and I checked on it the prior day. When I arrived at the restaurant with my guests, we were told that the large table in the middle was taken by someone else and they wanted to seat us at two round tables. This was a VIP group for the NIB conference which included Presidential appointees, and we were bumped by a group of conference attendees. I expect that when I make a reservation for 12 people to get one table and should be notified if that cannot be accommodates. Needless to say, it was very embarassing and the staff was not able to resolve it satisfactorily.

I had been to Deseo seven times since it opened. I hadn't been for over a year and we were very surprised with our last experience. I made a reservation for 7:30. When we got there, one of the hostesses spoke so softly we couldn't understand what she was saying. She led us into the restaurant and directly to the bar. We thought that was very strange, since no one was sitting at the bar. I asked if we could have a table, since the restaurant was about half full. She didn't say a word and just had this creepy smile on here face and showed us to a table nearby. Then she said something in a very soft voice, all the while keeping this strange smile on her face. We thought we had drifted into the Twilight Zone...a very uncomfortable experience.

We've been to Deseo several times now, and we are never disappointed with the food or service. The mojitos are fantastic. There are so many great things on the menu, it's hard to choose, and we often end up ordering too much. We said this time we would just order a few things, but then we get there and everything looks so good that it happened again. We ended up taking the crab fried rice and the wild mushroom side dishes home, and they were great left over. We love this place and look forward to going back.

My wife and I went to Deseo for our anniversary dinner. We happened to be attending a conference at the Kierland Resort and thought we should try Deseo, since we were there. The food (we had a tasting menu) was very good. We have a second home in Charleston, SC, which allows us access to some of the best restaurants in the world on a regular basis, and the food at Deseo was sophisticated and flavorful. Our only mild criticism of the tasting menu was that it was nearly all protein, with the exception of the dessert and a salad course. Perhaps this is the expectation of the restaurant's regulars, but we would have preferred more vegetables in the mix. This is a quibble, though. The food and overall experience are great.

We've eaten here several times, but this time the food was not as good as previous times. They did give us a special dessert for our anniversary and the service was excellent. We do enjoy the appetizers at the bar although they did not mention that they changed their policy during Westin Unwind time (5:30 PM -7:30PM). The drinks are no longer two for one and their appetizers are no longer half price.

Food was awesome. Just spicy enough to have a kick without being over the top. Duck entree was the best I have had and, although I generally don't love fish, theirs was amazing. Best of all, try the ceviche. Order a bunch and share, they are incredible. If you are with a small enough group, ask to sit at the counter, where you can overlook the kitchen, talk to the staff and, if you ask nicely (look pathetic enough :-)) , have them give you tastes of what they are preparing.

The food is outstanding. However, the waiter and and the roving managers were aloof and did a poor job. We constantly waited a prolonged time between courses> we had trouble flagging down anyone to help us after we were done with the main course> our waiter and managers ignored us and we had to visibly wave to get the attention of some help to clear our dishes> at that point we were not interested in dessert> though the food is great< there are many our equal choices in the valley with a lot better service> and therefore it will be a while before we go back> It was especially disappointing because we were celebrating a 1 year wedding anniversary for a wedding held at the Westin Kierland Hotel with food catered by Deseo.

The food was fantastic. We had the salmon, sea bass and the crab fried rice. All were outstanding and uniquely prepared. Our server was very nice and knowledgable, but she could of used additional support. She had more tables than she could handle efficiently which resulted in our good rating on service. The manager/sommelier refilled our wine once, but that was the only help she received. The open kitchen was a cool feature, but the dining room and patio lacked substance. We were seated on the patio, but decided to move in because there was no music and the landscaping/decor were lacking interest. The dining room chairs were uncomfortable for an upscale restaurant. If the service and ambiance were as good as the food we would be regulars.

We really enjoyed our meal. Particular highlights were the mojitos, fois gras appetizer, the duck entre and the amazing dessert sampler. The wait staff was very helpful in making selections and keeping this business dinner humming along. The wine list was well selected. Deseo's had no specials the night we were there which seemed odd since most places like to bring in something fresh to mix it up. The server suggested we try the crab and shrimp ceviche with pineapple juice and we did. The crab was great but overall the dish was ok with no major flavor.
