  • We usually choose The Columbia
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

We usually choose The Columbia Restaurant in Celebration for a special occasion, as it is quite a distance from our home and we are being much more conservative with our driving. While we always enjoy the food and the atmosphere, our particular server was a bit of a disappointment - not as informative, personable or attentive as is our usual experience. This will not keep us from returning to the restaurant for other special occasions; however. This experience was just not as pleasant as those we've had in the past.

We sat on the veranda and so the ambience in downtown Celebration was nice. However, our waiter was new... And, the staff filling the drinks was very slow and infrequently visited the outside tables. The food was good - m/but not quite up to the other locations that we have visited in Tampa and St. Augustine.

    Dined on 5/23/2008
We visited on May 23rd on a recommendation from a friend for our Anniversary. We arrived at 6:30 for our reservation, were seated, and things started off fine enough. Johnny, our waiter, was very prompt, friendly and offered great suggestions. Then the hostess seated a table of two families with 5 kids directly next to us. They were very loud and rude. The kids were running around our table and bumped into it many times as we're trying to have a romantic meal. The mom interrupted our conversation, not to apologize, but to say "you'll have kids some day" as if that was an excuse. My wife and I love kids but it wasn't what were hoping for for our anniversary, and it put a big damper on what was otherwise a great meal. We hope to try it again

  • Our return to Columbia after
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/19/2008
Our return to Columbia after a year was wonderful except for our table. Even though the restaurant was not crowded, we were seated at a round table that was too small for our party of eight and in the very back of the restaurant behind a bar. We could not see out around the bar into the restaurant and felt crammed into a corner. The server had a difficult time getting around to all us as well. This poor seating took away from the overall experience. I had to wonder if it was because I made the reservations online instead of directly with the restaurant. I think next time I will call direct.

The restaurant was beautiful, and the service very good. Most of the food was excellent. But, there were four people in our party, and in 3 of the 4 dishes, the meat was tough. One person had the paella, and the chicken was tough and dry. A second person ordered the dish with shrimp and chicken that had a lobster sauce. The shrimp was overcooked, and the chicken was dry and tough. The third person ordered a dish that had roast pork, beef, and empenada in it. Her beef was excellent, but she said that her roast pork was tough and dry. The fourth person in our party had red snapper and was extremely satisfied with his dish. We each ordered different desserts, and they were very good, but the white chocolate bread pudding was great!!!

Food was mediocre. I've eaten there before and this time didn't measure up. Ordered appetizers and waiter forgot to bring them! Sangria was far too sweet and had little if any alcohol. The grilled cheese ordered for the toddler was toasted and too hard for her to bite into. Very disappointing.

My family and I dined there on Mother's Day. I looked forward to that meal all week and I was not dissappointed neither was my family. Although the menu was mainly Cuban and Spainish my husband and I were delight to see regular items on the kids menu that were more suitable for our two little girls. View was very nice and the food was delightful; ambiance was friendly and cozy. We have no problem recommending it to family and friends and when in Celebration, FL again we'll definately make this a stop on our dining list. Mrs. Tyson-Leidelmeijer Baltimore, MD

I made the reservation for 6 people, but called the restaurant to notify that 2 more people were going they told me it was fine. 4 of us got there first, the host or maître d', told me it was fine for us to wait for the other 4 to be seated, and that they will have the table ready for us. When the other 4 people came we were taken to a table that wasn't ready, so we were told to wait (standing up) all of a sudden a waitress whos name is Gerardo yelled at us in spanish "what do you want?" we were surprise since we were there just waiting to see where were we going to be seated. At the end the gave us a different table that didn't have cutlery. And were served by a nice Ecutorian guy whos name is Darwin, he was very nice no like Gerardo!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/11/2008
I had been to the Columbia in St. Augustine and it was one of the best dining experiences of my life. When we went to the one in Celebration, maybe I had high expectations, maybe it was because it was Mother' Day, but they didn't come close. They ovebooked reservations badly. We arrived at 1:50 for our 2:00 reservation and were told it would be 15 minutes. We stood in a crowded entryway for 55 minutes before being seated at 2:45. Then we sat at the table another 10 minutes before the server came. Once ordering drinks, those took 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered Sangria and raved about it being made tableside, well ours was made at the bar. I felt letdown. I bragged to my mom about this place and she did not have a good time.

Not up to par for this establishment. Waited for 20 min after reservation time. Hostess seemed confused and sat 3 tables for our waiter at the same time. Waiter new, overwhelmed. Soup thin, main course not hot, etc. Long wait for food. Have been patrons of the Columbia (Tampa & Orlando) for over 50 years (2nd generation).

Have had good experiences here in the past and frankly was quite surprised with the food and service this visit. It was lunch on Mothers Day and we had a reservation. We were seated right away but our server was obviously busy with too many tables. The real problem was that 3 out of our four meals came over cooked and dry. We pay too much for overcooked food.Really took away from what should have been a positive experience.

I was going to be about 15 minutes late for my reservation. I called and spoke with Sarah, the hostess, who was more than accomodating. She said it wouldn't be a problem (despite the fact that I was under the impression that the kitchen stayed open a half hour later that it actually did). She said whenever we arrived we would still be able to place our order. Our server, Marlon, was more than attentive even though (as I was now aware) it was pretty much quitting time. I will certainly go there again as the view, service and food was good. Did I mention the best crusty bread they brought to the table?!

Excellent meal, service was slow but attentive. Bar was comfortable and the overall environment was excellent. This is the first time that I have been to the Columbia in Celebration but it is comparable with the other Columbia restaurants for food and drink. It does not have the ambiance and atmosphere that makes the Ybor city location far superior.

Some dishes were great, Pompano in parchment for example, other dishes were disappointing - Pollo Riojana was seriously over cooked, came with yellow rice that was so mushy that it must have been made the day before and tasteless carrots and beans that looked like they came off the steam table at a cafeteria. The service was poor, and while there were some bright spots, I'd have trouble recommending going very far out of your way to dine here.

I have eaten at Columbia 3 times, twice at this location. This was my first dinner the other times were lunch. I really wanted to try dinner and am very glad we did. The lunch food is great. The dinner food is magnificent. The only thing they could improve would be their wine list. The wine selections are few on the moderate to low price end and exceedingly high on the other end. I found difficulty selecting an appropriate bottle.
