It was tough to decide among numerous attractive lunch entrees, but I picked the jambalaya and was glad I did: the best I've ever had! And that includes the Gumbo Shop in N. O. and Pappadeax.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 6/23/2008
We were a party of three celebrating my mother's 85th birthday. I had called ahead to request outdoor seating (about a week after I made the reservations) and to ask for a candle to be put in with my mother's dessert. When we arrived no one had any record of these requests. After some staff conferencing they were able to seat us outside, but I don't think they were happy about it. The soup and appetizers were great. Two of us thought the meal was outstanding. Unfortunately I was disappointed with my main course and did not finish it. It had no taste. However my mother totally enjoyed the experience and the wait staff was excellent.

My only comment that would improve the perfect evening is to put cushions on the hard wooden seats. I was very uncomfortable as I have a bony bottom, so it took away from the enjoyment of the evening somewhat. I asked the greeter if she could find me a cushion/pad and she looked at me as if I was crazy and I never saw her again, which I thought was rather rude. She was aswfully young and I'm sure no one has asked her that before! Thanks for asking for feedback. We look forward to a future visit - and sitting on padded seats!

The weather put them about 30 minutes behind schedule (understandable). But once we were seated it took 30inutes for our salad and over an hour for our entree. Two table around us were sseated after us and served and billed prior to us receiving our food. Cute waitress...not on top of her game. Great bartender and attitude.

  • 82 Queen is a Charleston classic!

    Dined on 6/19/2008
82 Queen is a Charleston classic! The food is absolutely fantastic, service is great - just an amazing overall experience. Having lived in Charleston for several years I was fortunate enough to dine at 82 Queen on a somewhat regular basis. On a recent trip I decided that it was a must see/dine for my Colorado-born fiancee'. After our meal and speaking with the gracious and accomodating staff we've decided to book our wedding reception here. For us this is classic Charleston perfection! I'd love to thank them for a wonderfully perfect dining experience.

Disappointed this time -- Not up to your usual standards, although it has been years since I was there last. Maybe my memorable expectations from previous visits were too distant. Food was just ok -- last time was exceptional. Crowd was sparce, so I don't think chef was overloaded. Maybe just a different chef from years past.

The food and service was delightful. Tyler the bartender was very customer oriented letting me take a look at the bottle of Riesling that he had just served my wife and I. The waitresses were also upbeat and prompt. The meals were wonderful. My wife's scallops were the best either of us had eaten. My crab cakes were just as delicious as the waitress said they would be. Truly a really dining delight for a special occassion.

  • We had an extremely rude waiter
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 6/12/2008
We had an extremely rude waiter from the moment we were seated at the table. It was such an uncomfortable experience that for the first time in my life my party and I left the restaurant. We spoke to the hostess and one of the manager as we were leaving and expressed our rude treatment. They offered to move our seats, but by that time we were still in shock over this guy that we politely left. The irony is that we went to another restaurant and had impeccable service....from a FRENCH waiter! Go figure. I will not return to 82 Queen on my next trip to Charleston. In order to submit I had to rate the food, which we didn't order, but I wanted to comment. Stephen Wright

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 5/25/2008
We enjoyed the outdoor seating. It was in a beautiful courtyard, and lit softly with white lights. The ambiance was just perfect. The food was rather bland. The seafood was plentiful and delicious, but did not seem to have a lot of seasoning. Our drinks were served from the end of a batch of Sangria, and the waitress brought us half filled glasses. She charged us for both drinks, but didn't bring us an extra beverage to make up for the fact that our first two drinks equaled one drink. Overall we would revisit the restaurant because of the ambiance - not for the food though.

There was a repeated spelling error on the wine list. It talked of certain wines "complimenting" certain foods. The correct spelling for that usage is "complement." It's a small thing, but it made the restaurant look amateurish.

We loved 82 Queen. However, they did NOT have our reservation. Although we had an outdoor table, and they were very accommodating, it wasn't one of the tables I requested (just not available because the reservation was not there). The table was fine, but was in the very back of the outdoor dining area and in an area that was not quite as aesthetically appealing. Not sure if the breakdown was with Open Table or if it was on the 82 Queen end.

In preparing for my honeymoon, I researched the internet for a great restaurant in Charleston for our first night there. I at last picked 82 Queen, sorry I did. We arrived early, to have a drink in the bar. The drink was good and the service great. After that the service went to rock bottom. We were seated and waited at least 10 minutes for the waiter. We were informed that two people would be taking care of us. I thought great, but NOT. Throughout the whole dining experience we sat unattended with drink glasses empty, I had to flag down the waiter just to get a drink. The food was ok, but not outstanding. For the price we paid, I expected a lot more. On a factor of service the dial would say “0”. So save yourself of a bad servic

We selected 82 Queen because it was our anniversary. We ate there several years ago and at that time were quite pleased. This time the food was mediocre at best. I ordered an arugla salad and the greens had not been carefully selected. There were greens that were old and past their usability. I placed them on the side of the dish and the waiter did not say anything. The shrimp and grits were carelessly "thrown" together and the presentation was not existent. We got the feeling that this place has gotten too "touristy" and is lacking in attention to detail The only bright spot in the meal was the creme brulee. We made reservations online just to be sure we could get in. Would not bother to go there again.

We had two reservations. For the group of six with the 6:15 reservation, the service was very slow. They had to get their desserts to go because of time constraints. For my husband and me, the service was excellent. Our reservation was for 8:30. We were babysitting for the previously mentioned group, and because of the slow service, they had to leave early in order for us to make our 8:30 reservation.

This restaurant was hightly recommeded by a friend. I made the reservation well in advance. We were seated next to the bathroom upstairs which was the worst table in the entire place. Additionally there were many other tables open as it was not especially busy. Open Table does not seat us, however, it was disappointing to be treated in this manner. FYI we were able to move to a slightly further distance from the bathroom, but our seating in such a nice restaurant was a disaster and ruined my experience. Our waiter was courteous and did his best to make us comfortable. Please send this feedback to the restaurant.
