We hadn't had a night to ourselves for some time, and were really looking forward to the Firefly despite the 1/2 hour drive to get there. We've dined at the Firefly before and have been very happy with the food, wine list, and service. But on this night the service was disappointing. It was no busier than usual for a Saturday - there were even some empty tables and they were fully staffed. Our server seemed to forget about us, while devoting his attention to the 4+ tables. After an hour, our wine was gone and still no meal, we'd had enough and complained to the general manager (Cara?). She apologized profusely, gave us our meals to go, and comped the entire thing (well over$100). We will definitely return because of her making things right.

Great locale. Great Food. Service is fantastic. Evening specials are always a good choice. Lunch specials are priced great. My only negative is the noise level. Seems like the talk bounces all around so small talk can be difficult.

I was not impressed with the food. The appetizers were good, having said that the main course was cold and the Braised beef rib was not tender. It was chewy, fatty and cold. I have been to my share of 5 star restaurants and this one just does not compare. Took my mother to lunch last fall and we had soup and bread that was great! So i thought mothers Day i would take her for dinner on the Saturday before. I live about an hour away and couldn't wait to surprise her with the Firefly for dinner. Should of had her to my house for a cookout, as i have in the past several years. Would of been a lot cheaper and a lot better. I did however like the atmosphere and the waitress was wonderful, which helped us get through the dinner?

We sat out in the area overlooking the pond and really enjoyed the view. Service was wonderful and they didn't mind at all that our group stayed a bit longer after our meal to chat. Food was excellent as always. Love all the variety on the menu and the fact that the dishes are one of a kind. It is not your typical restaurant chain food and that's what keeps me coming back.

Beautiful restaurant until we were put on the "porch" that was very cold. Also very loud between air conditioner and other diners. We made reservations on a Tues. so we thought we would be seated in the main dining area. Food was good but experience was disappointing.

Stopped for lunch on way to Champaign and the restaurant is a true gem! Excellent, friendly waitress who knew menu well and made good recs for our table. Burger, pizza, and chicken/bacon sandwich all delicious. I got the waffle and it was really soggy from all the whipped cream/strawberries/juice piled on top, but still ok to eat. Next time would get that on the side. There was so many great items on their menu, but we were running marathon the next day and unfortunately, couldn't be too adventurous. Would love to come back here and try more soon! Atmosphere was modern yet comfortable. There were tables on a screened in/covered patio - not sure why there aren't more seats outside with such a great view over a lake?

I loved the atmosphere, everything about it. The food was good - a couple quick fixes would have made it a million times better. I was there for Easter brunch: The bread basket was okay. Only one of the muffins was fantastic. The rest were pretty dry and tough - tasted store bought The crepe tasted like it was pre-made and sat in the fridge all night. It was flavorless. The Caesar Salad needed less pepper. It was overpowering The waffle was pretty dry. The gravy and chicken were superb. You did well. The service was on-point, and the food was okay.

Who would have thought that such a unique resturant would be found in small town USA. Everything from the waiter to the resturant setting invited us to sit back, relax and enjoy ourselves. Easter brunch couldn't have been better! Our table enjoyed the steak and eggs, French toast and Eggs Benedict. Each dish was made to perfection and was just the right amount to eat. We will dine ther again !

We originally had made a reservation for 4 people but that changed at the last minute to 6 to our surprise they seated us in their private room. It made a nice family dinner into a wonderful dining experience, the food and wine were fresh and cooked just right. We stayed an extra hour, enjoyed a extra bottle of wine with dessert and had a fantastic time.

One of the best dining experiences of my life. The Steam Bun appitizer flavor was amazing. My wife's Greek Salad was so pretty she didn't want to eat it but she was so glad she did. The duck breast was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. The only problem is that's it is 90 miles from our house. The setting over the lake is beautiful and adds to a very lovely overall dining experience. If you are in the area you must stop and enjoy this wonderful restaurant.

Effingham IL, as nice as the good people who live there are, do not deserve such a nice place to eat. Great setting supported by very good food and equally good service is usually found in much larger communities that can support adventuresome entrees and somewhat spendy prices. OpenTable Diner Since 2013

I always enjoy dining at Firefly, but this time it was a little less than satisfying. The Greek pizza with the liquid-like feta cheese topping was somewhat glutinous. My wife and I split the pizza, and did not care for it that much. We thought it might be better if the feta was applied as a dry crumble rather than a liquid-like gooey topping. Our calamari and spinach salad were outstanding, though. We will be back.

Everything about the Firefly Grill is carefully planned out. From the sincere greeting at the front door, to the impeccable service by the staff, to the absolutely delicious food cooked the way you want it, this is a culinary experience that is extraordinary. We went for lunch when we were passing through Effingham to pints further west. So impressed were we with the lunch, we decided to stay overnight in Effingham on our way back and take in the dinner menu. Best decision we ever made even if the severe thunderstorms pounded us the next day. The evening was so pleasant from beginning to end and Chef Niall has produced a great menu with tempting choices - too bad we weren't staying for a week! P.S. - The sauce for the jumbo shrimp is great

We stopped in while traveling. The price seemed very steep for the amount of food we got. Also, all of the entrees had one or more accompanying sides that we did not like. Unlike either of the main courses, one house salad was enough for both of us and was the best part of the meal. The bill with tip for two was about $85 without a dessert.

We had a surprise "sprinkle"/Birthday Party for my friend. They put us in the back section which was PERFECT. We were able to have our own little party but with a great setting! The only thing I would have changed was make it a little lighter back there just for the party, I know the setting is for the rest of the restaurant and I love it...but just for the party it was a little dark to see. Our waiters and Waitresses were GREAT! The food was wonderful! We had a really great time! Thanks so much for everything. I will for sure pass the word onto my friends! And I'm sure I will be back with my husband for "date nights"! Thanks!!!

My husband and I visited the Firefly Grill this past Saturday night. It was my first time dining there and it was absolutely the most delicious dinner I have eaten in a very long time. The service and quality of food is every bit as good as dining at an upper scale restaurant in Chicago. It is a little pricey, but when you get the quality of food and service that you can expect at this restaurant it is a price that you won't blink an eye at. You will leave feeling like you have just experienced some of the best cuisine that you have ever had or could ever hope to have! We will definitely return to this location and I hope it will be sooner rather than later!

Firefly is at the top of my list for favorite restaurants. The dining experience was wonderful. Jordan, our waiter, was knowledgable and eager to assist in finding the perfect dinner options and accompaniment. I had filet of sole with spaetzel. Delicious! We started our meal with flash fried oysters in Panko breadcrumbs . Oysters were cooked perfectly. Breaking was light, oysters were tender and flavorful . A lovely homemade dipping sauce brought even more flavor to an already enjoyable dish. Our meal topped off with chocolate cake covered in a chocolate shell and served with strawberry slices. YUM! I was in Effingham for two days. I made Firefly my destination for dinner on both days. It made the drive from Chicago worth it!
