  • Good start to my Dine Out Week.

This is my first time doing Dine Out Vancouver, and I'm happy that I chose Heron's to start the two weeks. The atmosphere was great. Very intimate. We were seated by the window, which helped with the mood. Our server, Emilee, was very attentive, knowledgeable, and entertaining at the same time. She walked us through the whole Dine Out menu. The food was beyond amazing! Carefully prepared, carefully plated. The seafood chowder made me change my mind about mussels and shellfish. The ribs was an absolute hit with me and my date. The icing on top was the chocolate dessert, which was absolute heaven. Overall, I would recommend this to everyone, and I would definitely come back here post-dine out.

Service was attentive. very much enjoyed the sauce verge with bread served. Scallop appetizer had a very nice flavour profile, mushroom risotto served with the scallops was perfect. Kitchen split our appetizer for us which really preserved presentation and was appreciated. I thought our main courses missed the mark a little for value. I had the sturgeon entree which was possibly 3 oz in size. I have enjoyed sturgeon at other establishments with a fairer portion. Was perfectly prepared, however. I thought my partners arctic char was a little on the done side, but complimentary flavour profile. The chefs' amuse-bouche was a plesant surprise, delicate, creamy and delicious. Overall a postive experience.

In Fairmount Waterfront so the view and ambience are great. Service is also very good, attentive and caring. However the food is disappointing given the price. Lamb $34 comes with grill lamb strips, not lamb chop, and taste worst than what I can get at Stepho's for 12 bucks. My girl friend ordered the short-rib ($34) and it is over-broiled so the meat is soft but dry and not tender at all. The portion is also small given the price. Wine are 12+ a glass so even with a $30 off coupon the dining cost about $100 after tip/taxes. I can have better use of my hard-earn after-tax money for sure.

We stopped by for an early afternoon "hive tea" - excellent. Wonderful selection of teas, the ones we chose tasted great. And very well presented, unique small bites. Loved the presentation of the first course with smoky cedar coals under the mushrooms and cheese. Felt quite full afterwards - a good lunch replacement or early supper. The name apparently comes from the hive of honey bees they have on the roof, and the tea came with a small pot of their own honey - a nice touch. Server was informative and helpful, and the setting was quiet and pleasant - with a view that would have been even better on a less grey day! A great deal at $30 compared to most Fairmont afternoon teas, Van aquarium members should check out their 2-for-1 deal

Our server made the evening, I won't mention her name but she was so personable and warm we would go back as much to see her as for the delicious food. The Short Ribs were delicious, and there was bread with the scallop appetizer. The mood was tasteful, the music could have been a bit more jazz-oriented... overall a great experience.

Our only criticism would be the parking situation. The meters are for 30 minutes only, and it was a choice of valet or walking in the rain. It seems ridiculous to not be able to park right in front of the restaurant, without having to feed the meters. The food and service were very good, but there would have been more patrons here and across the street at the Pan Pacific with more street parking.

Seven of us booked for Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner. The Turkey was dry, overcooked, almost rubbery. The vegetables were undercooked. The service was sporadic and chaotic, with lengthy waits for same. Each bottle of wine we chose was not available, and when asked for a recommendation of something in the same price range we found out after tasting and choosing one (in the same price range), via the bill, that the price was 30% higher.Overall, very disappointing. The bill was well over $600.00 and this event will not be repeated by any of we seven.

Heron's has always been a favourite of mine. The staff are courteous and pleasant and yet not overbearing. The Maitre'd has been there for quite some time now, and always greets people with quiet courtesy and professionalism. It is unfortunate that hotel restaurants do not do as well as the "in vogue" restaurants, especially if they provide good fare, which this one does.

Their food were delicious. We ordered a dozen Pacific oyster to share. We weren't sure if it was served raw or cooked. Since our server Emilee was very nice and friendly, we didn't hesitate to ask. She said it was raw and when we were  disappointed she offered to bake them. They were heavenly! I ordered the dish "2 Ducks" which were cooked 2 different ways. The  first  duck has been seared. It was so tender  that it melts in your mouth ,like eating  the best steak and the second one is spring roll duck. I prefer d first  duck. The dessert I ordered  is Apple Tarte Tatin which everyone at the table tried from my plate and loved it.  It was like eating one of the best apple pie that's very light . The presentation is very nice. I googled apple

The restaurant is kept clean and neat. Spacing between tables were spacious but still a good use of space. Menu selection wasn't extensive but the choices were very delectable and there's something for everyone. We chose to have 2 ducks, grilled sirloin of lamb, and ling cod. All dishes came at the same time. We dove into the ling cod first, and it was very good. I'm always afraid fish to be made dry, but it was thankfully juicy and seasoned just right. The dungeness crab risotto was okay, though it could have been creamier. The lamb was delicious; we asked for rare and got it. 2 ducks were the best! The duck spring roll was nothing super amazing but pan seared duck was the highlight of the evening! Definitely recommend the duck and lamb!

Food was good, but service was fair. Took a little while before our server came by. Everything was so slow and it wasn't even busy. We were there from 7:30 to almost 9:30. I was wondering about the the chocoloate truffles at the end of our meal. Our daughter ordered dessert, but my husband and I both had coffees. The server came by with 2 chocolate truffles on a plate. She said it was for us since we didn't order dessert. So is that the case?? I noticed another table that ordered dessert and still got the truffles. They should decide to give it to all guests or none at all. Not to 2 out of the 3 of us!

The food was very good and my server was initially very friendly, attentive and available. Then later in my meal she disappeared with no explanation. Another staff person eventually approached me and took my dessert order. After 20 minutes my dessert had not come and my server had not returned. I could see she was serving a large party. I would have understood and been patient had she simply explained this to me. I had to ask 3 different other servers about where my dessert was. Finally my original server brought it and said it was gratis but she did not apologize for the Inattentiveness. This might have been an isolated Incident and service might usually be good. This is a lobby restaurant and bar and I was a hotel guest.
