I had been really looking forward to going to Maya as it has gotten great reviews and it's in my neighborhood. I'm sorry to say that I was really disappointed. Except for their signature nachos, all of the food that we had was mediocre at best. The tortilla soup was bland and tasteless. 2 different drinks, both very very strong and really undrinkable. The fish tacos, mango salso was good but otherwise funny taste. I thought the 2 salsa's with the chips also had a funny and unpleasant taste. On a positive note, we had a Great server, Justin, who took back both drinks and the soup and took them off the bill.

The bloody mary needs to be reworked. Too much like a tomato soup instead of a spicy savory cocktail. The food was good to very good, especially the Chilequiles. The service was excellent between the host and our waiter all of our needs were met without too much intrusion.

wonderful Spanish/Mexican/Latin American food. Many choices with different flavorings. Great speciality drinks. Knowledgeable and helpful, friendly staff. I love that the owner checks in to see how the meal/experience is going. A very fun experience.

I love this place. My husband and I eat here every couple of weeks or so. The drinks are great and different. Everything on the menu is good. My favorites are the nachos, fish tacos, veggie enchiladas, and carne asada. The service is usually impeccable and the manager/owner often comes by the table to make sure everything is good. My only request to the restaurant would be to offer fresh jalapenos. I love, love, love this place.

This was a great discovery in our hunt to find South American food that isn't always accompanied by rice and beans. Great duck and scallops, imaginative menu, and really good salsa music from a live band. Service was also very attentive. We will definitely return and bring our friends.

This is the second time my husband and I have dined here. This time we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was great last time, but it was outstanding this time around - and the pricky pear margaritas were to die for. I had to knock my rating down a bit on service - we ordered an appetizer and entre - but our server ended up bringing out our dinner without the appetizer ahead of time. She was very apologetic - and gave us a free desert. So, it wasn't a big deal at all, but still, couldn't give the place a perfect rating based on that. We will be back though - great food and great atmosphere.

I listed fair for service for this visit, but to be fair, this is the first time that I had less than great service. The waitress seemed to be sleep walking and never came back to ask us if we wanted refills on our coffee or anything, and then gave us someone else's check. The food was still excellent, and usually, service is very good.

This was our third visit to Maya Del Sol and each one has been nearly perfect. The service is excellent and each of the selections on the menu we have tried has been very good. Our waiter was very helpful in describing the different selections and sharing her personal list of favorites. It can get a little noisy but we didn't have any trouble hearing each other. Our guests were also favorably impressed. We'll be back.

We go often because it is close to our house, consistently good food and the staff remember us and make us feel very welcome. They also make a killer mohito! We feel it is one of Oak Park's friendliest! I have brought countless friends and family and everyone has enjoyed it. Wish they would put plantains back on as an appetizer!

The live band was great, but VERY loud. It was hard to have a conversation even in the dining room over the level of the band. The food was tasty, but nothing that out of the ordinary these days. The strawberry caipirinha was wonderful, but honestly I wouldn't order it again since you charged an additional $3.50 to make it strawberry! And I wasn't even warned when I ordered it, since a caipirinha is listed in your menu at $8.00. Overall a cute and tasty restaurant, but not one I'd necessarily go out of my way to visit again.

  • The bar can be rather noisy
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 3/31/2008
The bar can be rather noisy (or was it merely because it was the Cubs' home opener?) and hard to ignore even if you're in the dining area. The food is good and not overly priced (all entre's under $30 with several under $20). I had the Oaxacan chicken followed by the tres leches dessert, and I recommend both. The chairs and tables are comfortable, but I would go for the booth next time (a bit too much foot traffic around the open tables). The street view is nondescript -- I would not wait for a table by the window and booths by the north wall (furthermost from the bar) seem the best location within the restaurant, anyway. I would recommend Maya Del Sol earnestly for a business lunch or dinner and mildly for casual family/romantic dining.

Beautiful cochinita pibil, perfectly cooked, excellent habenero sauce next to it. The Mole was also delicious and unique. Service could improve. Corn tortillas were nice, home made but served cold. ( what a missed opportunity here! ) Margaritas are good but if you want them on the rocks they are seved in regular not very appealing glasses.

Our second trip here for brunch since we enjoyed it so much first time. And it is a bit of a trip from Downers Grove to Oak Park. The margaritas are absolutely top notch here and the food is really good-not too hot, not too bland and the portion sizes are just right--no need to waddle out the door! The service was friendly and attentive. We'd really like to try it on a Friday night when they have live music. We will definitely be going back.

This is the second time I have been to Maya Del Sol. Everything was fabulous but the waitress could have done a better job with checking on us. We had ordered two different ceviche's, but only one arrived. The waitress never checked back between the ceviche and the meal, so we never had a chance to tell her that we'd actually wanted another ceviche. It also took her a long time to check back about our meals. The restaurant had a good crowd but not overly so. I think the waitress could have been a bit more attentive. The food, of course, was outstanding!

I loved this restaurant when they first opened, however second time was just okay. THe food wasn't that great, my husband ordered the special and it was rather bland. Food was not hot when it arrived, although we did have a party of 10. I think they should also work on some of their spices esp adobe sauce. I still will dine there but hopefully it'll be a bit better next time.
