A word from Scala's Bistro
Since 1995, Scala's Bistro has garnered a reputation for classic, elegant dining. Warm, earth tones, original murals, beaded bistro lamps, and rich, mahogany booths evoke a dramatic Old World café. Fresh, innovative, Italian and Mediterranean-inspired dishes enhance the Scala’s menu while continuing to pay homage to the old Scala’s favorites.

  • Our flight was a bit late

Our flight was a bit late we called they said it was no problem got there and was ignored at the door while hostess and waiter had a conversation. We got put in a booth that had duct tape covering a tear and stuck to my clothes. The waiter forgot our appitizer. The food and drinks were good but we were disappointed on this visit. We ate here last year and it was great.

Always consistently great food although my pasta dish was not hot. Tried to seat us next to the kitchen and gave a poor excuse. Had to go back up to the front to request a booth, two of which were available.

    Dined on 10/11/2008
Having flown in from Vancouver WA, Scala's was just the place for excellent food before seeing the performance of a friend in a theater production. The theater, the parking garage, and Scala's are all within two blocks of each other, other theaters and shopping. The service was excellent, as were the meals. In no way were we rushed, from salad through the fatal chocolate dessert.

I’ve never a bad meal here. Prices are reasonable and the food and service is always top notch. When I need a mid afternoon break I’ve been known to steal away for a plate of beef Carpaccio, some ravioli and a martini and then come back for dinner and have a the pork chop. Enjoy . . .

I've been going to Scala's for years for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This was a Saturday AM breakfast which in a word, was wonderful. The best pancakes (light and delicious) I've had in a long time ... there is a new breakfast menu which I think is great with new options (including the aforementioned pancakes) such as "make your own omelet".

This was the most amazing meal we have ever had in SF!!! Everything about the restaurant was perfect. We were there for our 5th anniversary and the friendly staff and delicious food made for a perfect evening. They sat us in a quiet corner. 3 staff members congratulated us on our anniversary, the meal was perfectly cooked and perfectly served. Our waitress was superb!!! They also brought our our dessert with a special message written in with sauce, on our plate. We can't wait to go back. We are frequent diners in SF and this is by far the best!!

I had wanted to visit this restaurant since it opened years ago and never found the moment to try it. Very pleasantly surprised. I did not know any of the particulars--the chef's resume, reviews, etc. The reservation went very smoothly, we were seated at a nice table. The ambiance was great. The food was one of the best meals I have had out in quite some time. The wine list had many good selections by the glass. A great experience overall!

The restaurant setting was warm and inviting We were unable to hold a conversation due to excessive noise levels and were accommodated when we asked to be seated elsewhere but it was still noisy so recommend sitting near front windows. Near Union Square it is popular with tourists and reservations are required. Overall this restaurant is conveniently located for those desiring a restaurant near Union Square and is an acceptable choice during off peak hours In this price range, there are better choices in this City. The Slanted Door in the Embarcadero is a better choice or for lunch in the Union Square area, try the Neiman Marcus rotunda restaurant or their cafe.

Consistent quality dining experience for 10 years I've been going there. Get reservations...they're always packed. Great for a business lunch or dinner, especially comfortable in the booths. Orchiette, earth and surf, boston creme dessert never a letdown when bringing someone new to the place. Very convenient when you're in Union Square or at Moscone. One knock is the restroom setup -- slow elevator and always a line to get in.

Going to dinner at a restaurant around Union Square in the height of tourist season is always iffy, however, the theater required something nearby and Scala's fit the playbill. The bar is a welcome relief to people walking around all day, and the food is pretty good. I prefer it in the winter when the (hopeful) rains necessitate hearty Italian comfort food, and the crowds have thinned.
