With all of the great Italian restaurant choices in the North Beach area of San Francisco, it can be difficult to make a final decision on which to choose. My son and daughter-in-law and I selected Vicoletto based on a couple of menu items we were drawn to, and were delighted with the experience! My pasta with fresh crab meat was perfect - fresh succulent crab meat, and much more of it than I had received in a more well-known restaurant on the embarcadero. My son's gnocchi and sausage - both made in house - was the best example of that dish that I have tasted in years. Service was superb - two friendly and professional Italian speaking waiters anticipated our needs.

This was our second time to Vicoletto. If you want homemade pasta, and authentic Italian flavors, you will like this place. We have only been for lunch, so it may seem a bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion. The portion are just right, the service very good, and the food was delicious. We started off with the mozzerella burrata, excellent, and the sauteed calamari (if you want the breadcrumb deep fried calamari, go elsewhere). We all had different pasta's, the tagliatelle with pork ragu, the squid ink pasta with fish, the gnocchi with sausage and broccolini (my son said the gnocchi were like pillows, not heavy at all) and the pappardelle with porcini mushroom cream sauce, all excellent dishes!

Truly enjoyed our dining experience once we were attended too. The only blemish on the evening was that we had to ask the staff to take our order since no one had identified themselves as our waiter. Once settled in, the service was quite good and attentive. The calamari appetizer was lightly sautéed and delicious. The four of us had different pastas and all were very good. The wine was reasonable and enjoyed by all. We'd all come back.

Needed a good special event restaurant for a night out at Beach Blanket Babylon. This was a high correlation target based on proximity and Zagat/Yelp ratings. First time here, so went with fingers crossed. Vicoletto provided delightful management, attentive staff, and excellent food. The volume was a little high, but not bad for holiday season and a happy crowd.

The menu is a little limited for our preferences although they without question made our dinner to a tee. Very impressed with our dishes. We began with a light and fresh salad followed by wonderful set of meatballs and spaghetti. The service was fast and pleasant even though there was a large party about to happen. Even the balsamic vinegar on the table for the homemade bread was a good choice. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to others as it is quaint, affordable and well located.

Felt like eating at an Italian home, wonderful flavors, everything fresh -- appetizers, sole main course, etc. Only drawback was our initial service interaction. Host was a bit cold, told us we had to wait for a table in the back even though there were only 2 tables occupied and when we sat at the bar, he rudely said "this is my workspace" when we sat too close to the flowers he was arranging. But to be fair, after we sat down, he seemed more relaxed and the service level was solid.

I chose this restaurant due to its proximity to Beach Blanket Babylon. It was just a very short walk to the theatre. Both the zucchini and Burrata appetizers were very tasty though a little pricey compared to the rest of the menu. The entree selections were rather limited. I had the veal with rigatoni dish which was ok. Service was just ok - servers were minimally attentive but did not seem overly interested in engaging us in any conversation. My dining partner made a special request due to his diet restrictions and they were very accommodating. Entree prices were more reasonable than the appetizers. Overall, dinner was good, not great.

service was very slow. We had reservations at 815 and were seated at 830. took 20 mins for waiter to come and take drink order. had to ask for bread in the meantime. Ordered 1 appetizer and that took about 30-45 mins (nothing had to be cooked). i actually forgot we ordered it. Than our meals came about 30 later again. i ate so much bread becuase i was hungry. Took over 2 hours for our party of 4. One of the entrees was wrong so my friend had to wait another 15 mins to get her meal. Food was good. However service and the time it took to get the food and to take our order was horrible.

This was our first experience at Vicoletto and it was wonderful! I was meeting friends from out of town before Beach Blanket Babylon and wanted something close to the theater. This restaurant had a more polished feel to it as compared to others in North Beach. It was very quiet when we got there but as the night went on did get a little loud but it wasn't a problem. The waiter was knowledgable about the wines and food. He suggested an excellent Italian Pinot Nior that we all really enjoyed and was priced reasonably. The food could not have been better, we all had a different pasta dish, all of which were phenomenal and not over sized. The portions were perfect, we were all satisfied but not stuffed when we left. I will definitely be back!

Our first night in San Francisco was kicked off with a great dinner. The service was on point, the food was very tasty and the atmosphere was hopping. The noise in the restaurant was very loud and made it very hard to hear my dinner date. There were several large parties dining so that was pretty much the bulk of the noise. It was Saturday night so it was to be expected. We ordered an appetizer to share as well as the caesar salad. My dinner date ordered the Gnocchi and I had the Lobster Ravioli. Both dishes were nothing over the top, but all in all very good. If and when I'm back in San Francisco this may be a stop on our list again.

Very busy and quite small modern Italian restaurant. Dined there on a Sunday evening. We had to wait at the bar for our table to be ready but the restaurant was lively and the staff attentive. Perhaps a little noisy for some. Can't fault the food or service, which were both top class. My daughter's mozzarella starter and my lobster ravioli main were really of the highest quality and tasted superb. We loved it.

A colleague and I had dinner here on a Tuesday evening after work around 7:30pm so it was not crowded. We arrived and we were about two of less than twenty guests to the noise level was moderate to even low. We started by sharing the romaine salad which was very light and very refreshing with their house olive oil lemon dressing. We both ordered the tagliatella pasta dish. I had it with mushrooms as listed and my colleague substituted oregano. It was very good. I also ordered the wild salmon which was grilled to perfection - flaky but still very moist. Our waiter made an excellent wine suggestion to top off the meal. We plan to come back again early in the week for another quiet, relaxing dinner

We walked from our hotel in Fisherman's Wharf area and had a hard time finding Vicoletto. We walked by it twice and called twice to find it. It is not obvious and you really have to look. We were about 15 minutes late and once we arrived we were glad we made it. We started with a salad that was served with a lemon olive oil dressing and had shavings of Italian cheese - very good. We had two pasta dishes, each with homemade pasta. One was a squid ink linguine with seafood and the other was a spaghetti with pork ribs - both delicious. Good bread with the meal. We recommend it and would go again.

Vicoletto was very enjoyable for dinner last Saturday night. The food, wine, and service were all quite good. Appetizers were especially fun. I do think a couple more entree selections would be desirable (there were only three available). The Italian only wine list is a reality here, but that's a nice change from other restaurants with more eclectic lists. This is not an easy place to have an intimate conversation. The noise seems to reverberate in the restaurant. Staff was attentive, friendly, and professional. Vicoletto is definitely a good dining option in North Beach.

I'll keep this brief & to the point: if you appreciate simple, quality Italian cuisine then drop what you're currently doing and run to this place....no joke. Found this restaurant by accident, and I'm glad we did. Clams in red sauce as an appetizer with fresh bread is a must, and the entrees that we shared were equally as spectacular: Pappardelle con Granchio, Ravioli Aragosta and Gnocchi w/ Calabrian Sausage. Incredibly fresh. I was on a limited business trip so my visit was one time only, but I will be back.

We had a terrific experience at Vicoletto...a good selection of wines by the glass, as well as food, all very high quality but reasonably priced. A very warm welcome from the staff...and, when we were getting ready to leave, we asked the manager if he could phone for a cab, he suggested walking a couple of blocks as it would be quicker. Just as we headed out the door, he spotted a cab in the next block, ran and got the driver's attention, and held it for us in the street!! Great service, and a wonderful relaxing dinner.

Vicoletto was a wonderful way to get our NB Italian fix on our recent trip to SF. The food did not disappoint. We had planned to have the buratta, based on reviews, but after seeing how generous the portion was at a neighboring table knew that it was too much for just the two of us. We shared the zucchini, which was exceptional - simple preparation yet complex flavors , and the cauliflower, which was creamy and comforting. My friend had the tagliatelle with slow cooked pork sugo, I had linguini with crab , the fresh pasta was perfectly cooked, not too al dente, and the sauces were nicely seasoned. Panna cotta and molten lava cake to finish, delish. Small wine list with decent prices, server had good suggestions for pairing. We will return.

This restaurant deserves it's high rating. Although the menu was a bit limited, the food was amazing! We started with the Polpette al sugo (best meatballs ever!), and the Mozzarella Burrata--imported burrata cheese served with cherry tomato wedges and dressed arugula--(omg--fantastic!!). For main courses we ordered Pappardelle con granchio and a pork dish--both excellent. On our Open Table booking I requested a nice table as we were celebrating a birthday. Ten minutes after we arrived we were seated at the best table in the restaurant. Vicoletto is located on a busy street in the hip North Beach area. It's not particularly large or romantic, but if you're a foodie, you will love it!

Food was amazing, and really well done. Burrata and zucchini were just as good as other reviewers said. The salmon was really amazing. Wine list is very nice, and not the usual. Service was attentive - we had two 80 year olds with us, and they were very kind about their pace and needs. My only complaint was the noise. Maybe not a smart choice for the 80 year olds.
