Very busy day at Zephyr.. got the last table. Nice flounder added to menu. Service was off today, they were too busy. Nevertheless polite to us and apologetic. Consider a fluke in a half dozen visits we have made to Zephyrs.

We were looking for a scenic view for our out of town guests, and we were under the mistaken impression that Zephyr was a renovated version of the rooftop Hyatt restaurant we remembered from many years ago. We were stunned to find that this place was on the first floor! We did have a decent view across the river, just not what we were expecting. Service was pleasant, and the food was ordinary hotel food, acceptable and unmemorable. We might go back for drinks sometime, but not for a special occasion dinner.

We went for a holiday dinner rather than cooking ourselves. The overall experience was much better than the buffets offered by some of the well-known restaurants in the the Boston-Cambridge area, but does not match the best of the best from Thanksgiving. The food on the Prix Fixe menu was very good, and there was enough variety for all of the members of the party.

It must be hard for staff at any restaurant to work on Christmas but you would never have known it at Zephyr. Everyone was cheerful and friendly and most of all, exceptionally helpful. The food was tasty and the prix fixe menu was a great value. We ate a lovely afternoon meal and lingered over the dessert buffet while watching the lights come on in the Boston skyline. In all things, Zephyr gave us a very merry Christmas.

I had prearranged for a party of 11 for a special occasion. The waiter seemed disinterested, was not able to fulfill even the basic needs of keeping water glasses filled, ensuring we had ample condiments etc. The meal preparation and service were delayed to an uncomfortable timeframe even though the restaurant wasn't that busy and then one of the meals was incorrect(which may not have been his fault. Over-all the experience was very disappointing. We were aware that the prices were going to be high but expected more from such a high profile hotel chain like the Hyatt. The best part of the event was riding in the glass elevators! I will not be recommending this restaurant to anybody and will discourage anyone from dining there.

  • Not a great date night place
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 12/14/2012
There was one host and a line of a couple families and instead of greeting guests the host wandered around and it took us around 15 minutes to get seated even though we had reservations and were second in line. The guests were mostly families and there were a lot of little kids. The dress is super casual. Wear anything other than a hoodie and jeans and you will feel over dressed. Despite requesting a window seat and making reservations weeks in advanced they put me and my date right next to the kitchen and the furthest away from the windows at all possible. When seated the host took back the menu he gave me and gave me another, older looking menu for no apparent reason. It was my first time and definitely not a place I'd ever go back to.

We were celebrating my sister's 40th birthday with a group 8. We called and changed the number of people for the reservation at least 2 times and requested a window view. We were not the easiest to work with: *-We all arrived late, one of us was even 40 minutes late-they seated us with no problems. *-We got the table view and they were nice enough to adjust the shading as needed to make sure the view was prominent during our meal. *-Coffee was replenished frequently; the servers were very attentive *-They made us fresh waffles on request. *-The Buffet had a variety of fresh fruit and omelet station. It was plentiful but not grossly over indulging & wasteful(which I like). 6-Our parking was validated & free.

30 years ago the Hyatt was the place to go for brunch. The views, the interior elevators in the atrium, the live plants all over...it was a special place. Now the paints is flaking off, the big Hyatt sign is smashed (when we were there) and the plants are all fake. Riding up the escalator to the restaurant we joked that is sounded like it was on it's last leg with a loud groan and jolting movement. The noise of the escalator drowned out any music if there was any. The restaurant on the roof is now closed. Brunch was not cheap but by todays standards it was reasonable. No lox or anything remotely fancy. The most impressive stand was for omelets. The blintzes were dried out. Baked goods were good, as was the view.

Really surprised at the poor quality of the food. The breads were dry;soup tasted like it was from a can. Desserts were excellent but I only got to try a few because though it wasn't that late, trays needed to be refilled. Messy empty trays looked dreadful. The waitstaff was outstanding; however the very first man we spoke to was very adament about a window seat (I'd called months before to inquire about this and was given direction.)Other gentleman had info and was wonderful accommdating us.

  • Zephyr is a decent hotel restaurant

    Dined on 11/14/2012
Zephyr is a decent hotel restaurant, but not the best. I found the lobster spring rolls to have a "fishy" taste, and did not taste as fresh as I would have liked. My steak and scallops were cooked to my liking; however, nothing really sent me over the moon. My boyfriend ordered the "Rustic Bolognese" and delivered his appreciation for the meal as "okay, but I would not order it again." I would rank the fare as okay for a quick bite to eat, but would not recommend for a nice meal. Three things I can speak highly on: the view of the Boston skyline and the Charles is beautiful, service was great (team was thoughtful and attentive), and wine list was great.

Everyone was very helpful and informative, the menu was nicely varied. The service was excellent and the view of the Charles was terrific. A handicapped member of our party was treated with utmost helpfulness... car was allowed to stay right in front and all courtesies extended We (all seven) had wonderful dinner and a great time. I would highly recommend this place for service, cuisine and atmosphere.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 8/1/2012
Most of our party were vegetarians so it was very nice to be able to go to an upscale restaurant and not have to worry that they might have request special meals which is always a pain and usually screwed up. They all enjoyed their pastas, although it would be nice to have some alternatives to pasta. Also it would be nice if the soup were more clearly labeled so that we don't always have to ask if the mushroom soup is made with a meat-based stock. It was also nice to have salad choices that didn't have meat in them - it's always sad when the vegetarians can't even order the salads! We also appreciated finding gluten-free items, although again better labeling would have been more reassuring. Thanks.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012

4th of July Buffet, 2 soup choices, seafood bar, 3-4 salad choices, 3 entree choices, 3-4 desert choices (pie) and speciality drink. Clam Chowder had a creamy consistency and was tasty with medium size pieces of clams. Clams from the seafood bar were very gritty and not enjoyable, shrimp, although tasty, were not fully de-shelled, which decreased enjoyment. Prime rib cooked to ordered but both pieces served were tough. Mashed potatoes were good, Asparagus were fair, too much gravy on plate. Pies were good but not baked on the premises. We were never offered the Speciality drink. Tea was good. Two of the best parts of the "buffet" were the wait staff and the view of the Charles River.

Food was particularly good for all 3 of us, with all of us enjoying lobster bisque, and main meals being porkchops, caesar salad with white! anchovies, and mussels in a coconut milk base. The soups were not particularly hot initially but they were great about remedying this quickly, with a whole new bowl! Nice experience on our second try. First time, they were overbooked with a group and wanted to put us in a conference room next to the restaurant with bright fluorescent lighting and a single, slim window in the corner looking out on the Charles, which is the whole point of going to this restaurant (nice expansive views of Boston and the Charles). Needless to say, we declined and rebooked, but we were shocked that they actually thought this would be an acceptable alternative to eating in the actual restaurant. Looks like fair weather provides an outdoor patio (second floor) and eating experience overlooking the Charles.

I have to agree with the majority of the reviews I read about Zephyr on the Charles. The view is really great, and the atmosphere is classy and comfortable. And the free parking was definitely appreciated. But the food was nothing special, especially considering the prices. The scallops appetizer we got cost $17 and consisted of exactly 3 average sized scallops. Shocking. If they would overhaul the menu and add more flavor at a more reasonable price, this place could truly be a gem.
