  • A truly memorable dinner in
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/28/2008
A truly memorable dinner in a fantastic setting! Only negative experience was that the view included "backyard" views of filthy, unkept roofs of adjacent parts of the hotel, with flaking cement, rags and pieces of wood lying on the roofs, close-up views of air-conditioning in- and outlets (could easily be hidden behind low, decorated screens instead), indicating a slack attitude of areas "back-stage". Made us wonder how the hygiene condition was in the kitchen and other important areas where customers ordinarily do not pass through.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The business dinner with my guest, went well. The City skyline provided cordial conversation and the meal and service was good. However I would at this time like to register a complaint by my attendants in Section "B." It appears the team tried to confiscate a US$100.00 bill I included in my payment for the check for change. The check was for US$182.00 and I put 3 US$ 100.00 bills in the check case. When the waiter returned, the case contained $18.00, the extra change expected was missing. I confronted the team about this and they immediately looked dumbfounded but reteurned the 5 Twenty's with a " Sorry about the mistake" which I did not like. Thief is not excusable.I still left a 30% tip. Michael F. Jennetta

  • Overall I was very disappointed

Overall I was very disappointed in this dining experience. The host staff was friendly no problems there. When we sat down the server came right over and the service was quick when we were done with bread then came the apps and when we were done with apps came the meal. The only problem is after the meal came and my girlfriend needed another drink the server was MIA. Then it took a nose dive. My girlfriend ordered a coffee with dessert and the waiter forgot, 15 minutes passed before he came back and we could remind him. Then we wanted the check and the waiter passed the table several times always looking away from our table. Then when we got the check it was one price after it came back it was different. True disaster after the main course.

Arrived at restaurant, had to leave coats in cloakroom far away from dinig room, didn't like this, as our table was in direct line of the air conditionning so it was cold! We would like to have had the option of keeping coats. We asked to be moved but had to ask another waiter and we were moved after the starter. The experience was much better at the second table, a pity we weren't there from the start.Window seats are a must and not just for the view! There was a very good choice of wine but this choice was considreibly reduced when we looked at the price list, all wines over priced!Staff friendly especially the photographer, who really made an effort to make it enjoyable thank you.Over all it was a pleasant but once-off experience.6/10

The scenic view was okay with the exception that I thought they should really clean up the inside view of the roof. At times, looking at the air conditioners that were dirty along with loose garbage floating up there was not great. Maybe dress up with outdoor plants or something would make it nicer. Food was excellent however. Service was good also.

    Dined on 3/25/2008
I was quite disappointed with the whole experience, the restaurant didn't revolve as the floor was broken. I understand these things happen, but I felt that we should have had some deduction from our quite expensive bill as the main attraction is the revolving restaurant, which we didn't have the benefit of. Also the restaurant was very cold so we really couldn't relax. I would opt for the buffet in the lounge if I were to ever go here again, it seemed more relaxed and a better ambience all around.

I received a call to confirm my reservations. When returning the call I was on hold 15 minutes which was rediculous. I hung up and called later and waited 5 minutes. Not acceptable. When I arrived at dinner I was told the rotating dining room was not working. At the least that should have been mentioned in the earlier phone call. It was too late for other plans and the upper floor was too noisy. So we at without rotating. Service was good but the NY strip was a poor piece of meat. Service, Salads, Sides and Desert were all good.

It was a great pity that the revolving restaurant did not turn. The reaction on this was also disappointing: 'You have a great view'. People specifically ask for this place. Well, for a revolving restaurant, that is a bit of a strange excuse. If meant as hilarious, it did not come across. For a Marriott restaurant below expectation. We suggested to change our place a couple of times, but the waiters were not responsive to that. Also, not what we had expected. I would not recommend this restaurant to others because of this.

The only reason to dine at this restaurant is for the "revolving view". The night we went the system was broken and the staff did not forwarn us. Had we known we would have eaten elsewhere. The food is extremly expensive and without the revolving feature, it is truly a waste of money.

My daughter found a small black hair on her fillet and wouldn't send it back although I asked her to. My granddaughter was disappointed also because she is a picky eater and ordered off of the pre theater menu as the veggies were ones she liked (creamed corn and hash potatoes) but when the meal came it was the same as on the regular menu. The waiter explained that the menus had been changed and we must have had an old menu. This day was a very expensive treat for us (way out of our price range) and it was a little disappointing. We only come to New York rarely.

The food was horrible, the service was OK. My girlfriend and I ended up spending over $350 for the worst meal ever. We were pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. The only down side was that I had sent an email previous to arriving to say that it was a special night as we had a mother and daughter celebrating a 40th and a 21st birthday and I would appreciate that being acknowledged and there was no acknowledgement of this. But it didn't really matter in the end because the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. I would definately recommend this restaurant.

If the view from the restaurant is fantastic, the overall experience was a disappointment: expensive low-average quality food. Plus, of course, nothing guarantees that you'll get a table by the windows. We ended up not only on the 2nd line (not by the windows) but against a wall!!! As a result, two of us had no view to enjoy!!!! Later during the night, some tables better oriented became available. We asked to change, but that was probably too much of an effort for the staff to have us move from one table to another because we were simply told it was not possible! And believe me, these tables were not even booked because when we left they were still empty. If you want to enjoy the view, go to the bar, the restaurant is not worth it!

Food was good, service was good, not too expensive at $100 a head (inc. a couple of beers and 18% service charge) but overall I was pretty disappointed. Whilst it does offer views of the city skyline it's not really that impressive, certainly compared with those on offer at the Rockefeller Center or Empire State Building (although to be fair you can't eat in a revolving room at either of those). Sitting anywhere apart from the edge is also less than great for the view and if it's foggy/smoggy then it's decidedly underwhelming, thus rendering the whole gimmick pointless. Something to tick off the list of things to do in New York but not somewhere I would go again without good reason.

the view is with out a doubt the finest restaurant i have ever dined in. the setting and views were stunning. the service was unrivalled, and the food was presented and prepared to complete perfection. would recommend it to anyone who visits new york both for its uniqueness and wonderful service and food, it's as enjoyable and spectacular as any of the attractions you would normally associate with new york. just be prepared for the lift journey to the restaurant, as it's not quite up the same level as the rest of the establishment, sometimes it can stutter on the way up.
