A word from La Madia - A Contemporary Pizzeria
At La Madia, two pleasures - great food and distinctive, delicious wines - come together. La Madia is an urban restaurant that upholds Italian tradition. Every day, our chefs make our pizza dough and fresh pasta from scratch from little more than flour, water, and salt.
The menu is designed for sharing, with flavor-packed, wood-fired pizzas that change seasonally, inventive salads, and savory pasta dishes. Desserts are all made on the premises, in keeping with what's available in the market. The wine list is a wine lover's dream, with more than 75 wines by the glass and hundreds of bottles. And every week, we feature two of our favorite wines for just $6 per glass. In addition to wine and more than 25 beers, La Madia offers innovative cocktails, many of which are made from spirits infused in-house.

Big disappointment in terms of flood, especially the pizza. No way does this compare to Spacca Napoli's delicious 'za, nor do the appetizers or desserts. This is just another River Northish trendy spot that offers what seems to be a lower price point than other local options but unless you order next to nothing you might as well have gone to any other place for the money. We were there with friends we hadn't seen in a while and ordered a lot of (relatively mediocre) red wine so we had a good time as did many of the groups around us, which were heavy on the grrrls night out twenty somethings. But the food was mediocre at best and we won't be back.

La Madia is amazing! Since your place has opened my co-workers and I have been going as often as we can, and your service and menu never ceases to amaze us. Thanks for opening your establishment in the River North, it's nice to have a place with gourmet style pizzas versus all the other joints in this area.

Service was friendly, but the pacing was off - appetizers took forever to arrive, but the pizza came before we had time to finish them. No one offered to keep the pizza warm while we finished the appetizers, so we ended up with cold pizza. Also, bar service is erratic.

La Madia is a true gem. It has the feel of a great neighborhood restaurant but with enough of an upscale feel to make it really special. The food is inventive but in a simple way. Nothing over the top. The wood burning pizzas are incredible. The triple pepperoni with truffel oil is the best pizza I have ever eaten. The wine list is extensive and not full of just the old standards. The entire menu has something for everyone. Jonathan Fox has created something really special. I highly recommend it.

Good experience overall. Really enjoyed the pepperoni pizza. Only had two complaints. First of all the Pizza Fondue item on the Appetizer menu is not accurately advertized. We were expecting something very different then hot bread with marinara dipping sauce. Would be greatly appreciated if you either changed the description on the menu to be more accurate - or better yet - make it more of a fun, cheesy, fondue experience item. Secondly, we chose the place due to the decription on the web site that says it's a restaurant that cherishes and brings back the leisurely, multi course italian meal, as we were going with a group who was meeting for the first time and wanted to be able to relax and talk. However, we felt very rushed in and out.

We were told that they were "out of a lot of wines, but they'll be in tomorrow." Doesn't sound good for a Contemporary Pizzeria which serves a lot of wine. Hostess was NOT welcoming -- ignored us when we walked in the door and didn't bother to offer us a place to put our wet coats and umbrellas. Server (Frasier) was very good and most accommodating. Food was good, but none of it was hot.

very bad experience: 1/ we ordered two items that were no longer available 2/ we have been waiting more than 1 hour to be served and they forgot one item we ordered 3/ no excuse even if we told the manager we were not happy. I would have expect them to do something to compensate their mistakes and bad service. 4/ portion of pasta were not very generous; pizza was OK. 5/ I've been ill all night: perhaps the shrimps were not so fresh.

Almost everything we ordered 'they were out of'. We had 9 o'clock dinner reservations on a Saturday night and we ordered relatively quickly only to find out later that the appetizers, salads, pastas, pizzas, and wine that we ordered they were out of. When we were able to decide on something they did still have, they brought out the wrong pizza. The manager was gracious and comped our pizza. The service was less than stellar, however, I will give the server the benefit of the doubt considering the limited menu she had to work with. I have been there 2 other times and both of the other times were much more positive than this visit. Still a great place, they just need to work on their ordering skills.

Everything was perfect until we were waiting and waiting and waiting for the pizza's to come out. It was 2:00 - 2:30 in the afternoon so it wasn't busy. No reason for the pizzas to take 45 minutes from the time of ordering. I actually had to ask the waiter for an ETA after he disappeared for a while. However, the quality and taste of the food made it worth the wait (and that's rare for me to admit!).

Great food - the chef even checked on us to see if we like the food. Nice waiter (Frazier). Did not really appreciate the hostess being so obvious about writing the time we arrived (7:52 pm for a 7:30 reservation) on our ticket. Maybe we are being overly sensitive b/c we were late, but we still did not appreciate it. Nonetheless, I would still go back b/c the triple pepperoni pizza was so good. A wonderful place for a great meal with the kids or the adults. An amazing twist on the old standard of pizza and pasta. Interesting wine list with very approachable and reasonably priced wines. Service was attentive without being intrusive and the staff has a good knowledge of the wine list. If you want a great meal in a relaxed and friendly place, La Madia is a great spot.

We had 9pm reservations and had to wait over 20 mins for our table. Our appetizer came out at a good time, but then we had over a half hour until our pizza and risotto came. Our waitress sort of disappeared. The pizza's cheese had resolidified since it was probably sitting for a while before she got to it and the poor risotto's sauce had separated and the meat was cold. I was hoping for better since I have had great take out from this place through work. We were given new dishes after waiting for some time again and were comped a pretty sad 'gelato'. Just because it's ice cream at an Italian restaurant doesn't mean it's gelato. We lived in Rome for some time and I thought this would be a good birthday dinner for my husband's bday. :(

This was my first time dining at La Madia and I was beyond impressed. I brought my friend for her birthday lunch and the staff made it a very special occasion. From their Happy Birthday greeting to a complementary dessert, they truly went out of their way to make the event special. On top of that the food was incredible- we both raved about our dishes as well as our shared appetizer. I honestly can't say enough about this restaurant- we will be back!

Great pizza and wine selection, and the service was excellent (as in all my past visits) the only downside was my husband and I were seated in the "private" dining room with a table of six, just us and them, which was seemed a little odd. But they were packed, so I suppose they had to make use of all of their space.

LaMadia is an excellent restuarant when it comes to food. I was a little disappointed in where I was seated (at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen) when I had a reservation through Open Table for 8:30 p.m. The host did not even ask me if the table was sufficient or whether I was willing to wait until a better table came available.I would return to the restaurant only if I was seated in the front.
