A word from Blue Duck Tavern
Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern.

The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.

One of the most well-rounded eating experience you can have in DC. Everything about the restaurant is great. The food is innovative, yet has a comforting familiar feel to it. The menu is changed periodically to coincide with the seasons so you know you are getting the freshest ingredients. The ambiance is great and a nice contrast to many of the loud, overbearing restaurants that are opening up which are on the same level, food-wise, as BDT. The wine list is great with some nice wines for the value and the service is always top-notch. This continues to be a go-to restaurant for all occasions. I was informed they just changed chefs though so I am hoping they can keep up the quality I am used to.

Very stylish, but not for those who enjoy a more "traditional" ambience. food was inventive and delicious. Tasty martini-type drinks. When we arrived we were early for our reservation, and there was some confusion over transfering the bar bill over to our dinner bill. an enjoyable experience. I will return for outdoor dining when spring arrives.

The Blue Duck has some of the best food in D.C. It's hard to find a bad dish on the menu. The crab cakes may be the best in Washington. The scallops are also a treat. The service has improved a lot since it opened but there are still rough spots.

The menu does not contain a single entree that can be considered healthy. I ordered the chicken and a side of the harvest vegetables thinking theymay be healthy. What I got was roasted chicken soaking in oil, and some green beans covered with oil. On a positive note, I did try a bite of the grits that my friend ordered, and they were fabulous. As for the service, the servers themselves were fine, but the food took forever. I was there for almost TWO hours for lunch, and my table didn't order alcohol, appetizers or dessert. That is simply way too long for lunch.

Our recent meal at Blue Duck Tavern was one of the best we have had in DC or elsewhere. Raw oysters with tasty onion sauce on side, bone marrow (best we have ever had), crab cakes, Brussel sprout w/ bacon and the creamiest grits ever to be created. Plus service that was there where you needed it and always with charm and care. We will go back and I will send everyone I know!

Our waitress was distracted, we had to call her attention a couple of times. The bread used to be better - it was very light to the point of lacking texture: is it a choice, or a way to cut price on side expenses? Too bad because the butter is the best! Blue Duck is still a perfect place for late dinner, with excellent plates, interresting taste, original side dishes, small plates. We never had a plate we had to return or that was disappointing. One of the best restaurant in DC for non pretentious dinner with excellent quality and careful preparation.

We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday/our 8th anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner, our servers were fantastic (a guy and a girl, and I really wish I could remember their names--outstanding). Although my husband doesn't drink, we did appreciate the effort to bring out a bottle of champagne to pop (I'm sorry we had to turn that away... :). The food was perfect, perfect atmosphere. It was a highlight of our trip to D. C. (we live in Raleigh, NC). We'll recommend B.D. to all our traveling friends and relatives. Thanks!

The Food was fantastic. However, I waited for about 20 minutes past my reservation time to get a table, After we ordered, no food came for an hour. After I complained, things improved, but it is a shame that such a good restaurant has such bad service. Service was also bad in the bar. Again while we waited fo a table, it took 15 minutes for anyone to take a drink order and about ten more minutes to get the drinks.

We had a lovely dinner at Blue Duck. The waiter was very friendly, and when a chef saw me pointing at something in the kitchen and asking the waiter about it, he motioned me into the kitchen to look around. Which for me, is great fun! I really appreciated that. P.S. I realize it's a "tavern," but tablecloths would be nice . . .

Upon arrival we were placed at a table away from the "action" of the kitchen. I asked the person who seated us if there were a table in the mail room, to which he said, "No." When I checked myself there were infact 2 available tables. A roaming, suited person (title unknown)asked if he could help me, to which I responded that I would like to be moved to one of the two available tables. He checked to see that they were not already reserved, and then moved us with a smile. Excellent waiter and food.

A little pricey. The lounge is nice, esp. for drinks. Brunch is excellent... They do a "tag-team" service which mostly confuses diners and the wait staff... That's my only real complaint. Besides that, a good place for those in the 'hood and for anyone seeking a gorgeous atmosphere with decent food.

Fabulous -- I have never had a bad experience at Blue Duck. Some items on the menu tend to be a bit over-salted to my taste, however (e.g., the smoked trout terrine on this dining occasion, and on another evening, a side of leeks was rendered inedible by the liberal application of salt). Nonetheless, the overall excellence of the food and the congenial service make it worth the trip there.
