Food was great service was good but not outstanding. The decor was interesting (in a good way). The atmosphere was good (music would have made it more intimate). Overall it was a very good dining experience. I would go back again.

Prixe Fixe menu had solid choices. I've eaten there in the past where the Food was 4 stars (non-Prixe Fixe meals) but thought some of the dishes this time around were lacking. Service is very professional and do all of the things "fancier" places do. Overall, good experience and perfect if you're looking for a meal before a show at Kimmel or Academy of Music.

  • Great restaurant for Pre-Theater

Great restaurant for Pre-Theater Dining or any special occasion! My family and I celebrated my birthday and ended the evening with a show at the Academy of Music across the street. We ordered from the pre-teater menu but have thoroughly enjoyed food from the standard menu on previous occasions. I really appreciated the fact that we were comfortably able to enjoy a 4 course meal and still make it in time for curtain call. We have and will enjoy future evenings at Sotto Varalli and Upstairs at Varalli.

Went here prior to a show across the street at the Academy of Music - very convenient. Food was good - I had Seafood Risotto - lots of seafood, but could have used more risotto. Everyone else was very pleased with their meal. Service was OK, waitress was a little dim but competent enough.

Our waitress was outstanding, the bar crowd however, seem to override all the rest of the noise in the restaurant, food very good and well prepared and served. Suggestion: dining tables need to be moved further away from the bar as they are a little too close, one feels like they are eating their meal IN the bar. Otherwise, a very very pleasant and enjoyable meal.

We've dined at Sotto Varalli's several times now, and always have an enjoyable experience. The food is excellent and the service outstanding. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good food and a little pampering. The location is perfect for attending any performances at the Kimmel or even a play at the Walnut, which is where we were headed that night. Our server asked if we needed to make a show time, and he made sure we were served timely w/out being rushed. Wonderful restaurant!

We were disappointed in the food quality and the value for our money. The porkchop, while large, was tasteless. The scallops were $25...four scallops and some rice?!?! The soup and salad were good...the service was fair....a party was served their dinners before we were and they arrived noticeably later than we did.... All in all, for $150, a rather disappointing night....

We have enjoyed pre-theatre dinners at Sotto Varalli numerous times. The food is excellent and presentation artistic. The decor and ambiance are lovely; peaceful, quiet and all details are noted. The lighting, water features, sculptures are wonderful. Clean rest rooms! Service was attentive but not intrusive. I was a little surprised that we were seated in the 'back room' since I made the reservation through Open Table, but it did not impact our enjoyment of the food; the ambiance just wasn't quite the same.

I thought everyone was very friendly from the person who greets you to our waitress. Our food was excellent. I was a little upset that we were 5 minutes too late for the price fixed dinner and would recommend you extend that to 6pm (or at least give someone leeway if they are only 5 minutes past the cut off time), but other than that everything was great. My Butterfish was amazing and my husband loved his Filet. We also really liked the dips for the bread! All and all everything was very nice and we would definitely go back.

The food we had was excellent with a limited but reasonable wine list. We would recommend it highly, especially if in town for a show as it is right across from the Academy of Music and the Kimmel Center.
