A word from Solbar - Solage Calistoga
Solbar, our casual yet sophisticated restaurant, is part of Solage Calistoga, Napa Valley’s most innovative resort and spa. Relax in the bar with a custom cocktail and a panoramic view of the Palisades Mountains or sit on the patio to enjoy a local wine and take in the scene at our 130-foot swimming pool.

In the Solbar kitchen, we are pleased to offer you a choice of lighter dishes to enjoy guilt-free as well as more decadent ones in which you can truly indulge. We go to great lengths to involve local producers whenever possible and to let the California seasons dictate our menu.

This was a very bad experience. The food was OK, but we were rushed through dinner, and they would not sit us outside, although there were tables available. I did not enjoy this experience. The manager and people in charge were not nice either....and again the food was OK.

Food was excellent, however one of those dining experiences where there were so many large plates on the table they literally started falling off and breaking. The staff trying to set things down became a farce because the tables are too small for a food service of this caliber.

Beautifully set outside the main area of Calistoga and looking out over the Napa mountains with gorgeous landscaping is SolBar. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside on a cool but lovely evening. The wait staff was terrific. Attentive (but not too hovering) and full of great suggestions for drinks, wine, and food. The flat breat was perfect. The salad was even better. And our two main courses--short ribs with polenta and pork tenderloin with pork belly and sweet corn--were fabulous. The "simple" dessert of donut holes with blueberry coulis was an inspiration. We simply loved every minute of the meal and can't wait to go back.

Solbar is a truly great find & we will definitely return when we are back in the area. Service was spot-on from the moment we entered the restaurant. Our reservation was later in the evening - so the noise level was quiet. The ambiance includes many candles, dimmed lights & relaxed staff that will tend to your every need. The staff works very well as a team so you never feel the need to look around for "your specific server". We enjoyed the Sea Salt Flatbread served with Hummus, Red Pepper spread & Salsa Verde - 5 stars! Also we gave 5 stars to their sliders & Angleoetti pasta dish. All very worth the money & trip to Calistoga.

Neat menu, not sure about the execution. If you have an Ed Hardy t-shirt that you wanted to wear in Calistoga, this place is for you. The portions are a bit small on some items for the price, others were just right. Sitting outside is quieter and more relaxed, but they need to do a better job of keeping their heating lamps up and running.

Outdoor dining a jewel. Hostess was impecable, can't say much for the waiter...our service last time was terrific and this time uneven. We ordered some favorites and some new dishes. Although the quality of ingredients was high none were exceptional, with the exception of the breads. Cudoos to the baker. Prices were reasonable.

Wow, amazingly good. Restaurants that are part of a hotel rarely stand out on their own as a good restaurant. Solbar is an exception. This is not "hotel food". Each dish is individually prepared and not mass produced. Their menu is split in two: lighter fare "spa food" and heartier dishes. Don't be fooled. The "spa food" doesn't compromise taste for calories and the heartier dishes don't compromise healthy preparation for a little guilt. Breakfast, lunch and dinner don't disappoint. It's worth coming here even if you aren't staying at Solage.

We came for Mother's Day Brunch, and the food was excellent! There was some miscommunication with service when we switched tables, but that is to be expected, to some degree. Once service was restored, the food was exquisitely prepared and delicious to the eye and the palate! My mother was VERY impressed with the decor and ambiance, and we would definitely come back to try their regular menu.

    Dined on 5/2/2009
My wife & I dined at Solbar due to a local's recommendation while on a short escape to the Napa Valley. The food was very good, prepared with local, fresh ingredients. Portion size was perfect. My wife's Salmon was better than my tenderloin. Not that my tenderloin was bad, it just didn't stand out like the Salmon which was seared perfectly to create a crunchy crust on the outside while maintaining perfect consistency inside. Our server was phenomenal, probably the best we have ever had. Her personality, knowledge of the menu, and just the right level of attentiveness throughout the meal made us realize how mediocre most restaurant service really is. We would return to Solbar without question!

Surprised that a prix fixe brunch did not include beverages. The fact that the three of us ordered: two coffees, two orange juices and two Arnold Palmers added a substantial amount to the cost of the meal. I think that somewhere on the menu this policy should be stated or, at the very least, it should be mentioned by the server that beverages are not included. Other than this, the meal was delicious, served well and a delight. It is possible that this information is available and I was not paying attention.

The menu was interesting, as expected, and the outdoor setting was lovely. Solbar was not too crowded, inside or out, and everything was delightful. The decor within the restaurant was equally well appointed and we look forward to returning to enjoy the inside setting. We also understand that they have the best cheeseburger in town---which surprised us considering the elegant menu choices. Our feeling is we need to try that also when we next visit Calistoga! Thank you.

I took my husband here for his birthday. We enjoyed the food and ambiance, but would not recommend it to friends due to the following incident: We arrived about 1/2 hour prior to our reservation to enjoy a cocktail on the outside patio. A waiter came by to take our drink order and were promptly served our drinks by the bartender. He arrived without napkins and poured my drink overfull so it spilled on me when I took it. Instead of offering a napkin, he asked if we were staying at the resort, when we replied that we were just staying for dinner, he asked to take - AND KEEP our credit card! Was he actually concerned that we may run off without paying? We had to go ask for it back prior to being seated b/c he never even brought it back!

It's early spring in Napa Valley and Solbar's patio was a great spot for a leisurely lunch. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. There were some interesting choices on the menu and it's easy to share things. The Asian inspired shrimp lettuce wraps and the ginger roasted chicken salad were both delicious.

We stayed at Solage and had exceptional breakfasts. Dinner was good, well cooked, nicely balanced menu with reasonable choice but the atmosphere is nothing special. The room is a large airy space and quite echoing. If you arive, as we did, to find a party of 12 celebrating - and the laughter is loud and raucous and generally quite inconsiderate of others, then rush off fast and find somewhere else. They were having fun at 6 when we had drinks and still at 8.30 when we came back for dinner. I'm sure that they spent a lot, but did the other dozen tables have to suffer quite so much?

    Dined on 11/27/2008
Run by the folks from Auberge du Soliel we had very very high expectations and by and large they were met. The thanksgiving spread was carefully thought out and presented family style. Rutabaga and apple soup, endive & brussel sprout salad both were perfect, even though the individual ingredients were not high on our personal list of favs. the balance made them perfect intros. The green bean and mushroom casserole was the star of the meal. Homemade cranberry sauce was another star. The nits to pick: the dessert was not quite up to the rest of the meal, in terms of its balance, the mark-up on wine seemed typically excessive, and the property itself is a very poor cousin to Auberge.

Having lived all over the world, I consider myself quite the "foodie"! This restaurant was sublime! The chef is superb! Quite simply the best food my husband and I have EVER had. The ambience is fabulous! Although in the Napa area, it is a very chic, contemporary, hot spot, NYC / London / Paris feel about it. Fabulous! I'm going back today to use the spa and have lunch!!! Excellent food and service. Each dish was prepared perfectly and koodos for their new chef who is doing an extraordiary job. This was our second time there and you can see that they are using very high quality food to start with. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the crispy skin flatiron chicken was so moist and flavorful that I had to order it a second time. The shrimp lettuce wraps were a great app and the salad with pork bellies and egg were my wife's favorite. Would definitely go there again and again.

7:00 PM Diner on Saturday. Pleasant outdoor dining atmosphere, though some regulars felt it was their prerogative to be loud and obnoxious (big spenders, no doubt, judging by the fawning sommelier and manager). Food was competently executed, but uninspired. Some missteps, such as a too-salty sauce with the steak (and I like salty), an over-lemony garlic aioli that came off tasting like lemon creme, and a baked alaska that was too marshmallowy with a passionfruit sorbet at its center that was way too tangy and just did not work. Service was erratic. Our primary waiter was pleasant and attentive, but water refills had long waits between. A side dish came when we'd just finished the main course. Would not return.

My fourth trip to Solbar. The food, as usual, was wonderful. I had the Pesto Gnocchi which was light in texture and delicious followed by the Grouper which was fresh and well seasoned. My companion had the Spareribs which he enjoyed. He ordered a glass of white wine to start and when his meal came, the server suggested the Syrah and he followed her advice. When I paid the bill it was $19 for the one glass. I tipped 15% instead of 20% because I think she should have advised that the cost was double that of his first glass of wine. The previous trip with a different companion, the waiter pushed the salad so much (which we didn't want or order) that we commented on the lack of subtley afterwards. Great food & atmosphere, watch the hard sell.
