The food service was lacking. We were served a food course before we finished what we were eating. We even had a fork in hand when the server wanted to put the plate down. One dish was clean, but had not been removed to allow space for the next plate he wanted to put down. When this was mentioned to our waitress she said it was her fault then rolled her eyes at us as she walked away!!!!!! Not a good move for that caliber of a restaurant. The lamb ragu papparadelle was lacking in flavor, however the cod dish was excellent.

I was extremely surprised by how great the food was - after all this is a restaurant tied to a hotel. The interior dining room is beautiful and a great place to take clients for lunch. Outside bar dink area has an outdoor living room vibe with a firepit. I will be back.

Servers and bus people seemed to be in the wrong restaurant - their casual approach, tone, and speed would be better for a diner. Food was good but nothing memorable - unlike Perbacco, Range, Delfina, Sociale that all have somewhat similar food style executed at a very high level.

  • Ducca's take on Northern Italian
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 7/14/2008
Ducca's take on Northern Italian food is very creative. They take the heavy dishes of the old world and add a contemporary, californian flare to them. The portions are small by Italian restaurant standards, but a truly delicious treat. Who really needs tons of food? You end up remembering how full you were instead of how excellent the meal was. I will frequent this gem over and over again. The location is great and the outdoor patio is wonderful with the fire pit and the Contemporary Museum Plaza to the west. Excellent!

Nice for a hotel setting. We were a little put off by the $17 valet parking. When it was recommended in the Top 100 Bay Area (SF Chronicle), it listed a $12 charge which should be about right. The potaonocci was a little spicy for my taste and the halibut was overdone. The scallop appetizer and chocolate dessert were good.

Although Ducca was highly rated by the SF Chronicle restaurant critic, we found the food to be very spotty and the service to be extremely uninspired. The Osso Buco was OK, nothing special. The Arancini was good. The buckwheat pasta was terrible. The cod was OK, nothing special. The pasta with fresh sardines was good. Service was really disappointing. The majority of the wait staff looked and acted as if they didn't want to be there. As we we're getting out of the elevator, a gentlemen asked if we were going to Ducca. When we said that we were, he warned us by giving us a wave of his hand. He was definitely right.

I've been to Ducca 4 times. The food is very good, but the service is outstanding. The waiters are very knowledgible about the menu and the wine list. They really listen to your questions and give great advice. Food service is evenly-paced and the wait staff go that extra mile without being asked to please you. Last evenings waiter divided up 3 glasses of wine three ways so that we could each taste the wine he paired with each of our courses. (and still be sober enough to drive home) Previously, a waitress chased one of our party to the bathroom before she left to return a forgotten credit card. I arrived nearly 40 minutes late (after having called to let them know that I'd run into a snag and they were very gracious.) Reasonably priced

Really enjoyed our lunch at Ducca. The menu was smaller than I expected but the prices were less expensive than I expected. The server was very knowledgable and did not hesitate to make a recommendation when asked. The Chicken with peas & morels was delicious, cooked perfectly. The Almond Crosada dessert was like an individual pinapple upside-down cake-also delicious. My friend had the Ice Cream Soda of the Day (Cherry) and didn't think it was as good as the Crosada. I would definitely return to Ducca as it truly lived up to its reputation and reviews.

The outdoor space is great for sunny-day happy hours although they probably need to invest in a few more heat lamps outside. Also, during happy hours, management needs to staff up the outside bars in an expedited fashion as the bartenders at the small inside bar become overwhelmed. This was the first time that I dined at the restaurant and I was impressed with our food selections. The arancini and polenta were a terrific way to start the meal. The staff was friendly, courteous and attentive.

This Venetian inspired Italian restaurant is conveniently located near several SF museums. It has beautiful decor and delicious food including Venetian tapas -- Cicchetti -- and other dishes with flavors of classic dishes of Venice such as a yellowtail crudo antipasto remniscent of sarde in saor and fish cheeks stracotto with squid ink polenta remniscent of spaghetti al nero di seppie. Visiting this restaurant reminded us of all the fun, romance and delicious food of Venice itself but without the terrible exchange rate.

Food was over-salted and a bit over-priced. I dont think $36 for a flank steak is appropriate. Wines were also over-priced. Surpised by the noise: it was clearly much higher than the 2 bells that Michael Bauer had given it. We had trouble maintaining a conversation. The Westin is not doing the restaurant a lot of favors with a parking fee of $17. The outdoors looked inviting, but not for our day, when it was very cold.

This is a very nice space with a beautiful bar and outdoor dining area. The food was just ok and a few dishes were done poorly. One salad was under dressed and had a greasy feel to it while another was way over dressed and far to vinegary! Appetizer portions were very generous as was the dessert. The chef has too heavy a hand on the salt shaker. Coffee was served with lowfat milk and when I questioned the waiter he explained that the fellow in the back was "new". He did cheerfully replace my coffee. Getting seated was a problem and we had to argue to get our Open Table reservation checked off, the waiter subbing for the hostess did not want to take the time. I would only recommend this place for a drink but not for dining.

I am a chef, so I notice the quality of food more than the average customer. 1. Impressed with the creativity of the dishes, but execution was uneven. My bucatini was way undercooked and crunchy (not even al dente). The dill overpowered. 2. The special soft-shell crab, fava and gnocchi was too salty (and I like salt). The crab too oily and watery. 3. Did not care for the green custard that accompanied the micropea salad. 4. Portions were odd. The arugula and gem salads were HUGE. Yet the anchovy salad was tiny. 5. Sloppy plating for the two pasta dishes and the osso bucco. Was not centered. 6. Delicious cannoli filling. However, the service was excellent. After entering through the loud packed bar area, I was afraid the restaurant would be too noisy, however I asked for a quiet table and shown one in the rear of the dining room. The food was unique and fabulous. My husband had the special Veal Osso Bucco on Saffron Risotto which was "fall of the bone" tender and I had the Asparagus Soup with Truffle Oil and Poached Egg which was to die for. I recommend highly the Crispy Risotto appetizer which I noticed was served as bar food. It was devine and highly memorable. Service was right on except for one slow to arrive glass of wine. Too dark and romantic for my taste, married age 66, but I can assure you, most patrons were young. Dine after 8 to avoid families w/kids. Bon appetit!
