A word from Everest
Soaring above Chicago's skyline on the 40th floor of One Financial Place and under the culinary direction of Chef/Owner Jean Joho, Everest serves some of Chicago's finest personalized cuisine. "Though the restaurant has a spectacular unobstructed cityscape as a backdrop, the food is what commands attention," said Chicago Magazine, which has voted Everest four stars for the tenth year in a row, since Everest opened.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Worth every single dollar. Service was impeccable. I'm so greatful that they were knowledgeable about my food allergy(gluten allergy) and accommodating. The staff was very welcoming and unassuming from the second we entered the building to the moment we left. Food presentation excellent. The complementary parking was a nice touch too.

  • Everest is one of the finest

Everest is one of the finest restaurants in Chicago...we dine out frequently at the best restaurants, Everest is clearly of the best. On Tuesday, the Prosciutto Wrapped Sturgeon and mussel bisque courses were memorable, the service very professional, but not overbearing, and the desserts where "to die floor." The view from the 40th floor is far more impressive than a higher perched restaurant. Obvious this is a clear thumbs-up.

It was probably the most I ever paid for a meal. But it was worth it for the occasion. I would recommend it. We had theater tickets which limited our time. Next time we'll not plan another event and spend the time watching the sunset from the 40th floor.

Took my wife for her birthday on Saturday evening. Service was not near as good as it was the last time we went, one year ago. We had to wait almost one hour between the starter and maincourse, and the overall meal ended up lasting longer than I would have liked. The food and wine was outstanding. However, I'll think twice before making another reservation.

  • The good rating on service
    OpenTable Diner Since 2001VIP

The good rating on service is related to a delay in the start of our meal. The pacing seemed off for our amuse and cold appetizer, but then it picked up toward the end of the meal.

  • The only significant disappointment
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/28/2008
The only significant disappointment in our experience at Everest was one small aspect of the service. First of all, in my opinion there should be only one waiter describing each course after it arrives at the table. We had several. Second, we had difficulty understanding all three different members of the wait staff that announced our courses. We found ourselves scratching our heads and saying "what did he say?" We did not ask detailed questions about the preparation of each course because the wait staff seemed to have enough difficulty just enunciating the basics. Otherwise, the service and attention from the wait staff was excellent. The food was outstanding in every regard.

I was very excited to spend my 50th birthday at the Everest Room. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I ordered my beef medium and it was delivered well done. At no time did my server offer to take it back which they do even at restaurants with less steller reputations. I was truly disappointed.

I selected this restaurant because of its rating and proximity to the theatre. Food was very good and service was professional although a bit haughty -- it was obvious from the staff's attitude that we should have felt privileged to be there.

This is the second time that we have had dinner at Everest. We had a great time. The food was wonderful. The restaurant is beautiful. We had forgotton how to get into the garage for parking, but once we figured it out, loved the idea of leaving our coats in the car with the inside, private parking. We will definitely be back.

We went for my wife's birthday and were disappointed with the menu and our location in the dinning room. It has changed from the last time we were there. The food remains outstanding, but something was missing. The service was great, but the request of a birthday desert of berries was not acknowledge and nothing was offered, usually the restaurant is extremely accomodating.

Best meal I ever had! They helped us select fantastic wines and their service was amazing (without being snooty). We had no clue what to get, so we ordered the ten course meal. Poor servers ended up with us being the only two people left in the restaurant because the meal takes so long and we had a late reservation. But totally worth every penny. The meal was the BEST I've ever had!

i know this place is famous, and Chef Jo is a celebrity, but honestly i prefer his brasserie jo concept. the atmosphere reminded me of that 80s soap dynasty. it could use some updating.. the view wasn't what i expected either. the food is good but not really memorable in my opinion-- maybe because chicago is known for such innovation like alinea, moto, etc. that's why i perceived it to be boring?

Special occasion restaurant with a great view. Enjoyed a romantic dinner with my wife there. Unfortunately is was foggy and the view from the 40th floor was non-existant. Enjoyed the evening, but it was below expectation, more for the stuffiness, then for the food. Enjoyed the service and food, which were top notch. Probably would not go back, but that wouldn't prevent me from recommending it to someone.

  • Unbelievable classic Alsatian
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 4/18/2006
Unbelievable classic Alsatian cuisine. Fantastic and utterly professional service. Much better than a lot of its higher profile peers in Chicago. My only quibble is that the encyclopedic wine list has very little information on each wine. For instance, the list has pages and pages of rieslings but it doesn't mention where they're from, only the vintage and the wine maker - not even a mention of whether it's a kabinett, spatlese or auslese. The extremely accommodating sommelier made up for this though.
