A word from I Trulli
Opened in 1994, Nicola Marzovilla's warm and welcoming restaurant has been a favorite for more than 18 years for those in search of hearty, delicious Italian specialties. Its celebrated menu draws on the regional cuisine of the Marzovillas' homeland, Puglia. Nicola's mother, Dora, prepares hand-rolled fresh pastas daily. The restaurant is famed for its all-Italian wine list (expertly selected by Marzovilla), and the adjoining Enoteca offers lighter food and by-the-glass choices as well as a nightly happy hour from 3-8pm. I Trulli is a popular destination all-year round: diners can sit by the glow of the main room's rustic fireplace in winter, while in the warmer months are treated to the lush splendor of one of Manhattan's finest outdoor garden spaces.

  • We've been there a number

We've been there a number of times and ALWAYS had a great meal. Unfortunately, they appeared to be having an 'off' night. The pacing of the courses was off quite a bit, the food came out luke warm, and the nutella special dessert seemed stale. Most surprising however was the veal chop. We had been raving about it to our guests and when it came it they had changed the dish completely. It was breaded, pan fried and mostly flavorless.

Food and wine were fabulous. Service less so, but adequate. I think the wait staff was overwhelmed. Attractive interior seating. The garden room is rather pokey. Can't wait to return.

It was quite overpriced for what we had. I went with someone who clearly communicated she was highly allergic to nuts and the waiter brought out the appetizer which was the chickpea with carbonata. My friend double checked with the waiter that the appetizer was OK to eat and he said, oh sorry, no it is not, it has nuts. If she hadn't asked a 2nd time, we would have spent the evening at the hospital. Too expensive and too many employees simply standing around doing nothing.

  • lovely restaurant.. very authentic.

lovely restaurant.. very authentic. wait staff not great It's distracting to have to keep looking for the waiter when you want to concentrate on your clients. . artichoke and mozzarella salad used artichokes from a jar, not the "sauted" artichokes promised by the waiter. Fish was excellent. Very expensive for the level of service. I've been going to this restaurant since it opened and have always loved it. The owner, Nico, is wonderful. I knew him from his first restaurant, Tempo. Clients of mine also love the restaurant. The last couple of times I've been there, some of the dishes seem mediocre, especially the salads and appetizers. Pastas and fish are always terrific. There needs to be more consistency,/

  • This is a lovely, warm restuarant

This is a lovely, warm restuarant that we have been going to for over 15 (?) years. The bar is friendly and attractive with a very good wine collection (flights) with a notable selection/presentation on their appetizer menu. I Trulli always reminds me of neighbor places in Rome. FYI I wrote that the noise was "moderate" - that was not meant as a criticism! It wasn't so quiet that we felt we had to whisper or speak in hushed too—It seemed just right.

While sizeable, the restaurant is divided into several rooms, so it remains cozy. The wood plank floors are lovely and we sat by the wood burning fireplace - a really nice touch on a winter evening. The appetizers were very good, but make sure to try the excellent homemade pastas, they're teriffic!

  • Louder than I had hoped, but
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

Louder than I had hoped, but largely depends on your table. I had specifically asked in my reservation request for as quiet a location as possible, remarking that it was in the nature of a special occasion (and I have a partial hearing impairment). That request was not honored and I thought it should have at least been acknowledged. As a same-day reserver I chose not to complain, but spent the night regretting it. There were available tables in the front room which is generally quieter. Great meal, however.

This dinner was for a birthday celebration and everyone at I Trulli made it very memorable. Great bartender and waitstaff made this a wonderful dining experience. We were given the table by the fireplace which was a great way to start the evening. A perfect restaurant to celebrate a special occasion!

I hadn't been to I Trulli in a year and forgot how much I enjoy the restaurant. The staff is pleasant and attentive, an exercise in how food can be simply prepared to bring out all its natural flavors. So wonderful. Thank you!

This was my first visit to I Trulli. What a surprise! The menu offered a wide variety of choices. We ordered pasta for our first course. Both were a return trip to Italy. Unlike "American" pasta; the dishes were flavorful, light and perfectly prepared...something that is extremely difficult to find in the US. For our entrees, the veal chop and the pork shank special. Delightful! With so many restaurants in the city, we have a very short list of restaurants we'll visit more than once...always trying new places. I Trulli instantly made the list of "must returns" for a quick trip to Italy.

I went here on Valentine's Day in 2008 and it was the most disappointing dining experience of my life. The service was terrible and the food was by no means worth the wait. The couples sitting next to us left before their food could arrive. I should've done the same.

The inoteca at I Trulli is one of my favorite wine spots - they offer wines from the store (vino) across the street, with homemade ricotta and foccacia. The tastings change regularly, and are seasonally appropriate, so its a fun place to try new wine. only about six tables in the inoteca, plus bar. i dont care for italian, so not certain i can hold forth on the food.
