A word from Bouchon
Highly acclaimed chef Thomas Keller (of The French Laundry) is behind this beautiful Yountville restaurant. Enjoy excellent French bistro cuisine in a dining room offering wonderful Parisian ambiance.

We invite you to visit Bouchon Bakery, an authentic, country-style boulangerie located next door Bouchon Bistro. The Bakery serves traditional French breads and pastries and is open from 7am - 7pm daily.

Because of a schedule change, we had to come on the 22nd instead of the 23rd. The change was handled with courtesy and concern by the restaurant host(Tony), predisposing us to have a very good experience. We have been to Bouchon many times. Everything is usually excellent, unless we have to sit in (not at) the bar, which roughens up the service and ambiance so much for us that we'd walk out before doing it again. We'd eat there more often if the menu changed more often.

We have been to Bouchon many times. However, on this last occasion, March 21, 2008, we found the menu lacking. My husband, has always enjoyed the steamed clams, while I have always enjoyed the blood sausage or the steak and fries. Sadly, all 3 items were taken off the menu list. Our short ribs were Ok, but the ambiance and the service was still outstanding. We requested a certain table and it was waiting for us - appreciate that service immensely! Marilyn Kjeldgaard

I am very unhappy with the food, the service, the wine list and the noise at bouchon. The house special wine, 7&8 vineyards, was a complete blow off. The menu changed from what they had online when I made the reservation. I went to bouchon for the Guigau. So I ordered their boulliabaisse. Very ordinary food. You can get the same at fisherman's wharf at half the price. Special on the menu is braised short rib crepe. The mushrooms in it weren't cooked; very gummy and stiff. Quite disappointed with my experience at bouchon. Now, to be fair I have to say that the dessert was really good. My smoked sturgeon salad was also excellent and the wait staff is very attentive. We were served by different people. Not likely to recommend.

I have dined at Bouchon on special occasions and otherwise for 9 years. This is the first dinner where I have been disappointed. The menu was heavily restricted by the renovations the restaurant is undergoing. Service was more fragmented, and all the employees kept stressing how wonderful the changes would be, but it did not make up for the sacrifices associated with this visit.

The kitchen is being rebuilt so the menu is very limited. However, there is no notice of this anywhere. We were disappointed in our lunch because the "raved about" items were unavailable. To cover the construction noise, the music's volume was turned up to make the inside so noisy that it was not possible to carry on a conversation. The food was so-so and the service personnel made mistakes that should not be tolerated in a restaurant of this rated caliber. Service mistakes like leaning over food to fill water glasses, removing plates before everyone had finished, just dumping the bread on the table without any container or bread plates. This was a special occasion but it will be a long time before I will go back.

The food and service at Bouchon were outstanding. The only downside to the restaurant is the very close seating. We were situated right next to a very loud couple, which was quite distracting to our meal. Otherwise, we definitely enjoyed ourselves!

Simply awful. We had a reservation for lunch at 2:30pm, we arrived on time and the table was ready which is good. We sat down order drinks and by 2:45pm ordered lunch. They were out of the two specials, we ordered as apetizer a salad and a carrot soup, and then the short ribs and a croque monsier (a ham and cheese sandwich). Apetizers came at around 3:15pm, soup and salad were ok, nothing to write home about. By 3:50pm they had not brought the entres, I complained. At 4:00pm I ordered the check and they brought the entres: Both cold and the short rib dry and hard. They offered to reheat it: Do you go to Bouchon to eat microwave reheated food? I insisted on paying without eating but they would not charge me. We left without eating.

Bouchon is a classic French brasserie but with the tough and excellence of any Thomas Keller influenced undertaking. The Bouchon in Las Vegas was mediocre, so to know that he didn't mail it in and bank on his reputation at the Bouchon in Napa was wonderful for us.

Coming from NY I was enthralled by the myth of Thomas Keller's California establishments. After eating at Bouchon, not sure what the fuss is about. The solid food seems to be an after thought, but I wasn't floored. The two stand outs - although we had to request a bread refill, the primary waiter really took time with us and the coffee was amazing! But I felt really cramped throughout the entire meal, hated having to navigate my way past a service door to the outdoor loos (porta potties!) and the prices were way too much for what we got (and what I saw on the menu). And sadly, the dessert - chocolate mousse - was a real misses. Seems like the restaurant world is forgetting that bistros were all about real, honest food at fair prices

I was unimpressed by the service. As younger diners, I felt as though the waitstaff did not feel as though we belonged in the restaurant. Upon entering, the hostess asked whether we had a reservation (with the assumption that we did not). Upon being seated, our server was at first rude and unattentive. While the situation gradually improved throughout the meal, the tone had been set, which in turn put a damper on what should have been a wonderful experience. The food was fine (my wife loved her cod; I was less impressed with my whole snapper). Overall, I feel that Terra is a good resturant with very good food. However, the service is certainly nonuniform, and can be a distraction.

We eat frequently at Bouchon, and we did enjoy our meal, even though I have been disappointed with my trout on our last two visits. I loved the trout with the toasted almonds, and green beans. Bread crumbs, and capers are not a good substitute for the almonds. I have no idea why they made this substitution. It would be better to take the dish off the menu. Bouchon is a good place to go in Napa Valley, but it is not the best place to go. There are specials at Bouchon, but the main menu has the same items on it regardless of the season. My favorite restaurants are those that use only local, fresh, seasonal ingredients.

Been to Bouchon several times, food is solid, but to be honest, the fish stew was pretty lame, for the cost which was about 30 to 34, I do not recall, it looked as though the ingredients were rationed out, very small portions and obvious.. Great flavors, not thought out.. Waiters are always nice... surprised..

I arrived for my 7:45 pm reservation and was told that a table was not available for a party of one. Evidently, the restaurant had overbooked for this time period and I was offered a seat at the bar. When I asked what a 7:45 reservation meant I was told that normally a table would have been available. I reluctantly accepted the seat at the bar but this area was very crowded and loud, with no other diners eating at the bar. I politely excused myself and left the restaurant. As I was leaving I informed the maitre 'd that I was not pleased and that I would not be returning to this restaurant ever again. I would not recommend Bouchon based on this experience.

Unfortunately, the staff at Bouchon the night we were there were VERY aware of the fact that they were in a celebrity establishment. The snob factor was high, the food was alright given the fame of the place, but, compared with other restaurants that we sampled during our trip to The Wine Country, the meal did not warrant the attitude. Nothing could overcome the "cattle call" atmosphere, the noise, and the fact that the staff on that MONDAY NIGHT seemed to have been instructed to act as if the patrons were there to serve them instead of vice versa. We were on time and eager to sample the fare, but found the lack of hospitality a turn off. FYI, we are foodies from NYC and Hollywood i.e. we know ego and it's pitfalls. Bouchon has it.

My husband and I had lunch there recently and I was struck first by the good service, the general hospitable feeling the various staff members seemed trained and conscious to give to patrons. We both had fish for our main entrée, trout for him, striped bass for me, and they were both cooked just right, melt in your mouth good. For dessert, I had a scoop of their homemade ice cream and a scoop of their also homemade sorbet, which was incredibly tasty, especially the sorbet.

    Dined on 2/19/2008
Thomas Keller's sister restaurant of the The French Laundry, Bouchon, is nestled in the heart of Yountville. This french-inspired bistro is nothing short of what you would expect from one of the only Michelin-rated chefs in America. The food is traditional with that tongue in cheek Keller-esque flair. The oysters were phenomenal with all the ecroutements one would expect. And no-one sears a piece of fish like the kitchen staff at Bouchon. To finish, I suggest the profiterols, but order a dark beer so you can make a float with you ice cream. You may scare your server by being so bold but it is definitely worth the reward.
