All 8 of us were charmed by the fall setting, the warm welcome we received and the excellent food and service. Everything from the large Mimosas, thru the smoked salmon Eggs Benedicts and other delicious brunch items, had something unique about them... Our birthday girl was charmed to her chocoholic toes by the appearance of a Happy Birthday chocolate platter to finish off a splendid meal. Beautifully renovated dining room set in Fish Creek Park - we enjoyed wandering the trails after our great brunch. We'll be back!

Good basic food. The service was very slow, the staff confused. It took a long time for them to ask for wine order. It took forever for them to find the wine. We had not been to the restaurant in 15 years. We may wait another 15 to return. There are lots of places that combine good food with good service. The location is unique.

My husband and I went to Bow Valley to celebrate our 31st Anniversary. We have eaten here before, and the meal was delicious. I love the beautiful country setting, and the rustic atmosphere. We had a table by the fireplace, and dinner was lovely as expected, and very filling. My only complaint was that the elk in the Osso Bucco was a little chewy. Also, it was dark when we left the restaurant, and there were no lights in the parking lot.

This was our first visit to The Ranche since the change in management and we were not disappointed. The unique ambience of The Ranche has not only been maintained, it has been enhanced with thoughtful yet subtle touches. The service was as good as it has always been, and the cuisine at least as good as we've enjoyed for the past several years. From the potato and leek soup to the pork belly to the superb elk osso bucco and finally to the Okanogan Peach Brulee, every course met and surpassed one's expectations. The Ranche has not missed a beat in the transition and its unrivaled setting transports it to a level unequalled by any other restaurant in town. It celebrates the history of our city and of its culture. It is not to be missed.

I follow BVR on Facebook and am always impressed by the menu and photos that are posted and have wanted to go for about a year. Our good friends will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this week and we wanted to do something special to congratulate them - what better place to take them! There was a wedding in the big dining room and we were in the additional room on the opposite side of the restaurant. The staff was so great as they made sure the doors remained closed and so the noise from the wedding reception was not noticeable too much. Our server was very good and very attentive - only there when necessary and the food was very good. We had a great evening and we were the last to leave - other than the wedding! Thanks for everything!

It is hard to believe the number of empty chairs at the Ranche! The food is interesting and delicious. Tonight was one of the best meals I have had this year.... maybe the best. The service is impeccable - Professional, friendly, not intrusive. And the location is simply spectacular. I do like the quiet setting, but I'd like to see a few more people in the seats, keeping the doors open so I get to continue enjoying great meals.

BV Ranche was uninspiring. We had brunch on a Saturday morning prior to a family outing. We made a reservation but had not needed to as there were only 2 groups dining for the better part of the morning. Service was semi-attentive; we had to ask for ketchup, butter for the challah bread and pepper and salt. The ketchup that came was actually tomato paste (they serve hash browns and so should have ketchup on hand.) I had a florentine benny - eggs were hard poached not soft and I was not asked for my preference. For the price, I expected more, so all in all not good value for money.

We have enjoyed the Ranche for many years, well before their recent change of ownership and have found them to be very friendly and hospitable, especially Donald and some of the staff that we got to know over the years. We were celebrating a special anniversary. The waiter, Kilo, was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Food was very good and prepared to our liking. (Especially the deserts). The meal was served at a nice casual pace. We never felt rushed or waited for service. The venue is clean and bright throughout. They have done an excellent job of retaining the old style decor.

We went to the Bow Valley Ranche to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The location is fantastic, the restaurant and ambiance was very nice as well. However, the food did not meet our expectations. My wife had the lamb, which she said was very tough and tasted more like an old sheep rather than lamb. I had the duck which was a dinner special and found it to be extremely salty.

I was disappointed to find out, once seated, that on Saturdays there is only a brunch menu to choose from - and if you are not in the mood for eggs and breakfast fare, there isn't a lot of choice. (chef did accommodate our oyster request). Food was fine but cheese was moldy. When booking, we were not informed there were two private functions that day, so we were stuck in a small room with limited outdoor light, which made the room quite dreary. One of the Ranche's greatest features is the beautiful grounds and if you can't see outside, it takes away from the experience. Both this visit and prior visit (for dinner), both servers had attitudes of superiority - maybe that's their style but hey, if you don't like your job, find another.

My husband and I have been coming here for years, usually on our anniversary. The property is gorgeous and staff are always warm, friendly and very accommodating. All of those things still exist but since the new management has taken over, it seems to have slipped a small bit in terms of knowledge and details. We were seated on the veranda (lovely) and the menus were plonked down by the hostess. The waiter came, he was very friendly but we were missing a lot of things throughout the meal. Often no water, no plates, no napkins, no spoons until we asked. My Fish dish also had cooking paper still in it and not a single dish on the tasting menu was explained. I'm used to this place being IMMACULATELY refined and I think they've lost that.

This had been a long standing favorite of mine to which I surprised some diner friends of mine with. The setting and atmosphere were stunning which was slightly dulled by waiting for over an hour to have any of the wait staff visit our table. This was very disconcerting as you can imagine. With that being the only hiccup of the evening i cannot really complain. We started with the charcuterie board such was quite good. And finished with varyng mains and shared three deserts. I do it hold the slow service against them, I merely chalk it up as a freak thing and will most certainly be going back.

We loved our evening. And although it is impossible to eliminate flies while the doors are left open we would have loved a quick check by our table as there were several 'trying to get out' that we quickly squashed during our first 10 minutes. Others had apparently met their fate lying against the floorboard where we sat. We're not squeemish but would have preferred the area checked and cleanen-up before hand. Alas it happens but could have been a bit nicer in this respect. We will return however!

For the money spent, I would not recommend this restaurant. The main dining room was just about full on the Friday evening we dined and the noise level was quite disturbing. I like to enjoy the conversation with my spouse without having to ask him to repeat himself. The lamb lollipops we shared were good, rare and tasty, but the lamb sirloin I had for dinner was overcooked and minuscule - yes, lamb is not big. I had a strip of red pepper and a green bean for vegetables with a tower of potatoes that were lukewarm. Very disappointing when there are so many fresh vegetables available. My partner's scallops were too salty but a nice presentation! We mentioned the shortcomings of the meals and were given a wonderful dessert plate of chocolate.

We have been to the Ranche a few times in the past, but this was the first time since the ownership change. The food was great and we love the atmosphere. However, we were very put off by the less than friendly host and waiter. Their attitude came across as unwelcoming, rude and demeaning. When you pay good money for a meal, there is an expectation of excellent customer service which was not the case.

I surprised a friend for her birthday at Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant and we had an amazing afternoon while sitting on the building's beautiful veranda. After sipping champagne and eating delectable fresh oysters and mussels (that had just arrived), we feasted on unique risotto and vegetarian fare. All our dishes were fabulous!! Our server was attentive and very courteous, while taking the time to ensure everything was just right. He also joked with us when we engaged him! At the end of the meal, my friend was treated to a birthday surprise -- a large piece of dark chocolate with "Happy Birthday" written on it arrived with her ordered dessert.

We have lived in Calgary for over 40 years and had not yet visited Bow Valley Ranche. We went for my birthday and sat outsides with the kids (7 and 10 years old). Outside was great as the kids ran in Fish Creek while we waited for meals. The view was stunning and the artwork at the side of the building is very nice too. There were so many great options for appetizers that we tried the potato soup, the charcuterie, the beet salad and the oysters. They were so good that we had to scale down our meals a bit. The spinach and goat cheese stuffed chicken was incredible and my son loved his first try of Arctic Char. Would definitely go back for a special occasion as it is quite costly but worth it!
