Hult's is a great nw addition to Los Gatos. If you want to go somewhere to dine where you can hear your friends or family talk, this is it! The food, ambience and service provide a warm, local experience. Great for a special occasion or date night. Love their wine list too.

From the extensive wine wall that is visible through the windows, I thought Hults was a wine bar (translation: limited food menu), but we decided to give it a try. The menu, upon first glance, was interesting but I didn't find myself overly excited about the options. I finally decided on the Black Cod, which turned out to be quite amazing! The fish was light and prepared perfectly atop a delicious carrot puree. We all shared tastes of our respective entrees and each was incredibly delicious. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased with the food that I returned 4 days later to introduce another friend to Hults. My second visit was equally enjoyable and I look forward to returning to try the chef's other creations.

Food was good, although the "surprise" tasting menu was somewhat pretentious with staff not allowed to reveal what the dishes would be. No bread is served, according to the waitstaff, the chef doesn't believe in setting out bread as it affects diners' appetites. Wines are somewhat high priced. Service was very slow, we ended up with a dinner that was 2 hours long. For the price and quality of food, there are other choices that are just as comparable in quality and price in the Los Gatos area.

We continue to enjoy dining here because of the 1) Quality of the food, 2) Hospitality and 3) Ambiance. The themed Hult's experience (Land, Air, Water or Earth) is a great value for the money and is not always the same thing. My wife and I have fun alternating between ordering a themed experience and ordering from the menu for our date nights. Either way, we get food that varies from really good to intensely wonderful. Little touches like free sparkling water are pretty cool also. Come before it gets too popular to get a table!

They are trying very hard to be upscale but the ambience says casual. the food was too rich and there are not enough non- meat options i.e. chicken, fish. Or pasta. Portions were unusually small for some things - lentil soup - and large for some very rich things - black cod. they should have some less expensive wine also. I'm sure they will settle into a mode that's comfortable for them.

Execution remains strong, this time I had the beef bourguignon special which was outstanding, we enjoyed the agnolotti and carrots and mac & cheese as well, eventually devolving into a shared food festival without regard to who ordered what! Also outstanding was dessert a nice little cheesecake trio. The owner helped us select a port to accompany dessert. This is a really nice place with good food, good service and a very convenient location if you don't live in Los Gatos but want to park and eat easily.

This time I started with the Fall Salad and French Onion Soup for my wife. Good salad and a, fine, traditional french onion soup served hot. Then mains of Beef Short Rib and Quinoa Risotto. Very nice execution on both, I will be back to that Short Rib again! The sides of Carrots and Cauliflower were both very nice. The speed of service was very good and more noise reduction technology has been installed since our last visit. This is a good place to eat, and we look forward to the winter menu additions and changes.

Since they've only been open a month, they are clearly still trying to find their groove. We tried to order drinks at the bar before our reservation & w/ 4 ladies behind the bar, they were still EXTREMELY slow & abit scattered. Once seated, our whole party ordered the Hult's Experience (pre-set 3 course meal) w/ their wine pairings. All 4 of us enjoyed our various meals (you get to pick your theme - Land, Water, Air or Earth) & the pricing was extremely fair. Because we like to truly dine, the very slow service did not bother us too much & our waitress was very apologetic. But, as the night progressed, we did notice some of the surrounding tables appeared more anxious & displeased w/ the slow service.

I liked the upscale, fresh decor. My salmon entree was a very meager portion and undercooked. Missing several things that diners expect. No iced tea. No artificial sweetner - what do diabetics do? No fresh bread available - when asked for some was served toast pieces. Liked the decor and atmosphere, but not excited about the food and portions.

We went for an early Saturday dinner. The food and service was fine, especially for a new place. We did have to wait about an hour for our food and noticed other folks that came in later than us were getting served before us... but we were not in a hurry and it all worked out. My two constructive comments would be to consider improving the interior a little, the ambience is lacking a bit. And the noise level was excessive by the time we left. The owner did drop by early in our visit (before we had our meal) to check with us. Wish he checked at the end so I could have mentioned the noise. These are bugs that can be worked out.

2nd table seated at 5:10. Sat for 15 min. before anyone came to the table. Didn't order alcohol nor appetizers. Waiter is slow & either he didn't fire the order on time or the kitchen was slower. Sat for another 52 minutes waiting for black cod & colorado shoulder?? Seriously? One cooks very quickly,. the other is typically mostly cooked before &just finished when ordered. Owner came by, introduced himself & asked if we were waiting for our food. Again, seriously? Bored looks on our faces, unused silverware and only 2 breadsticks left, uh, yeah, we're waiting. came back & said about 7 min. After food came, he returned &said, see, that was less than 7 minutes. Who says that when you've waited an hour when the place is not busy?

The lentil soup at Hult's was maybe the best I ever tasted. It made me excited about the rest of the meal to come. While what followed was good, it did not live up to the promise. Short ribs with fingerling potatoes and carrots was very good. Kind of homey. Pork loin with turnips and figs sounded great. It was somewhat dry and bland. All in all, though, this is a better than average restaurant with better than average prices. The wait staff is competent, but not highly professional. The rooms are somewhere between casual and serious. The jury is still out on the long-range trajectory. The restaurant must pick up the pace in a number of areas to meet the expectations and the pricing that goes with it.

I want to note first that I really want this restaurant to be successful. There were 4 of us and we all ordered something different. We all tasted each others dinner and we didn't like any of them. It was very noisy but one can deal with that but we waited a really long time for our food and the taste just wasn't there. Hopefully they'll get this figured out so that they can be successful.

We both tried the Hult's experience again and were very happy. It is not the same experience every time. We did land and air. Both started with Lentil Soup which is really good. The main courses were filet with sauce bernaise (properly cooked with a Most Excellent sauce) and chicken with fondant potato and mushrooms (excellent presentation, excellent taste). For a Tuesday night it was busy, but not overly crowded; which made it a very pleasant environment to enjoy our chocolate lava cake and artisan cheese plate. We are so happy to have this kind of high quality food at reasonable prices contrasted to the neighboring establishments. Now looking forward to coming back and having at the lamb shoulder and osso bucco braises!

Seated by the windows on Sat. evening, I was cold with two layers on. The view of the street does not add to the atmosphere and could use some landscaping. My onion soup was too hot even though I stirred it and waited a few minutes to eat it. My entree of the pork loin was good but could have used a spoon more of the glace and another bite of fig as that was the best part. Just trying to be constructive as it was easy to see that you are trying hard to make a success of this venture.

My wife got the special traditional french onion soup (most excellent), I opened with the fall salad (very good). She enjoyed very much the quinoa "risotto" accompanied by a Tank House sirah, I went with the ala carte "SImply Grilled" black cod with sides of Carrots and Cauliflower. The staff is friendly, the owners are hands on and the chef and kitchen staff really care what comes out of the kitchen. The coffee is really good and thus far we have never had an off meal. The noise level can rise, but prophylaxis against noise echo has already begun and more is forthcoming.

The menu is trying too hard. In fact the entire restaurant tries too hard with the offering of warm towels at the beginning (am I eating with my hands?) to the sample amuse-bouche that was not very tasty. The menu offers sauces on the side for an additional $3 which should just be included. The portion sizes are small and all the food needed salt. My party of 4 left disappointed and sad that we spent so much money and calories on a very lack luster meal. Our server was very nice, warm and friendly. However I felt sorry for her having to explain so much about how the menu works. We were presented with a Specialty Drink Menu which included a Sangria cocktail but when we ordered this cocktail, they were out of Sangria. 630p Friday.

Hult's is still working out a few kinks. The waitstaff could use more training and provide better information about the menu. We were there at 6:30 on a Sunday and the restaurant had run out of several of its dishes. The table of four next to us each received an amuse bouche. Our table of four had to share two because they had run out. The table of three behind us did not receive one at all. All of us could see what the others were eating. At the bar, the bartender poured a scant 1/2 glass of Gloria Ferrer champagne for a guest. The bottle retails for less than $20. The scant glass cost $10. On the plus side, restaurateur Alex Hult spent a good 5 - 10 minutes with each table. I would give Hult's another try.

Then oysters for me, beet salad for her, followed by Salmon with field greens for water and butternut squash agnoletti with sage foam for earth. FInished with lava chocolate cake topped with a caramel and sea salt gelato and a huge creme brulee with figs and a tiny cookie. The front of house staff is very friendly and the kitchen execution is outstanding, especially compared to the LG competitors. My wife does not like beets, goat cheese or walnuts and she LOVED the beet salad: you can see that the chef is a flavor master. We will be back for a fourth time for sure. Happy to see bar for excellence raised in LG.

What gorgeous setting! The dining room is gorgeous and the city lights going by gave a feeling like we were in a big city , yet still in our charming little Los gatos! The food was delicious ( I recommend the pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon), the staff charming and a well rounded wine list( I recommend the Ramey Chardonnay). Being that we were there with a party of 6 within the first week of opening the timing of the service was a bit off, but I think their staff will quickly get into the proper groove. Noting that is viewed from the road I would remove half the wine bottles and add a nice fireplace and some pictures on the walls would warm it up. Maybe they are planning on adding a few but I prefer warmth over starkness. Also make sure the food is hot when it arrives at the table. My dinner was very good but it was not the temperature I would of expected. Otherwise, a huge step up from what was at this location previously. Very nice staff and friendly place.
