A word from Black Powder Tavern
Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution.

It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence.

Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

Growing up in Conshohocken, PA which is very close to Wayne, PA; This was my first visit following the change from Winberries. We made reservations via Open Table. Upon entering the restaurant I was very impressed at the host when we entered the restaurant. He was very friendly and immediately sat us at our table. The restaurant has a Colonial feel. They have a very impressive beer menu. We tried the nachos. They were impressive but they serve a very small portion. You must try the Cheese Ale soup it was very good and flavorful. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and was not noisey. The wait staff was very attentive and we were able to enjoy our meals and conversation. They have free valet parking.

This is our first time to the Black Powder Tavern. We are beer geeks, so we were excited to see the 24 draft lines. The food was quite tasty—my husband started with the French Onion Soup and had a pasta entree. I had the Mac 'n Cheese and the brussel sprouts. Everything was above average. Respectable draft list, mostly craft. The one "complaint" I have is that the draft list is not up-to-date. There were some changes that our server did not mention, and we only overheard them from another server telling other patrons. I guess that's part of the growing pains of a new restaurant. We will definitely return!

The food was good, the ambiance was fine, the drinks were good. The bar area is lively but not loud. The server was over-tired and rambling. Nice enough, we were sympathetic at first, but it became a little annoying.

Went for dinner and there were a number of choices to select from and we had 3 appetizers which were all good but nothing to say wow about. The dinners were ok too. They were not bad but could be stepped up a bit. We would go again. This isn't a wow place but good food and not crazy expensive.

I like the theme change and I like the beer selection. The staff, especially who I believe to be the manager, were very good, although I did get the sense our waitress wanted us to leave (but her shift was probably over so that will happen). I did not love the food for the price. I probably won't go back a second time but I'm glad that I went once. Seems like a decent spot for happy hour.

Three of us celebrated a birthday for the birthday girl in our group. The venue was wonderful, and our server was so helpful and friendly. That led us to getting three home-run entrees! Everyone was really pleased with their food selection - especially the birthday girl! Many kudos to the wait staff and the menu!

My southwest chicken burger was tasty. Nice selection of beer. Nachos was disappointing being greasy and made of flour rAther than corn tortilla chips. Guacamole was good though. Service was below what I would expect. Host tried to seat two parties at once. Which led to confusion. We waited five or six minutes after the food had been served before we got to tell anyone that our guacamole order was missing from the nachos. Many minutes passed before we were given the check or our card processed. The server may have been too busy or the stAff not experienced to handle the demands of a busy night. But things need to get better.

I can highly recommend Black Powder Tavern's Prime Burger. It is clearly made from the finest quality ingredients starting with the prime rating of the beef. I ordered a medium-rare burger, and it was perfect. A sturdy pretzel dough roll holds everything together nicely. All-in-all, a home run!!!

Not much has changed since it changed from Winberie's to Black Powder Tavern. Decent pub food, a more extensive beer list with craft beers (although the 2 I ordered were already unavailable). Our server was very nonchalant about attending to us. I will probably go back because it's close, quick and the menu has good variety.

We were excited to try this newly reworked establishment. The waiter was very friendly. He was slow though. We sat with plates left on the table from our apps. They brought entrees and still left appetizer plates on the table. The food was mediocre at best. We had way over cooked Calamari to start with. It came with bad dipping sauce that tasted like it came from a jar. I had Mussels that needed to be cooked about 1 minute longer. At least half were not open. My husband had a very lack luster chicken sandwich. It was very loud in the restaurant. Hard to have a conversation. I doubt we will be returning to this restaurant.

The ambiance, service and quality of the food were excellent. The menu has a nice variety of selections. The Cedar Plank Salmon and the Flank Steak were the best, and the Brussel Sprouts were to die for. The only negative is if you are unfamiliar with the restaurant, you cannot see the sign directing you to the parking area when it is dark outside.

My friends and I tried this new restaurnat expectiong something different. The menu is very limited and the items have not changed very much from the previous restaurant. I was very disappointed in our dining experience. I asked to change tables because the first one was right by the door with too much traffic going by and the second table was just as bad since we were put in front of the kitchen door. The noise level was also loud so we couldn't really hear each other speak across the table. I am sorry this was such a disappointment as it would have been nice to have an alternative to McKenzies in the area for the locals.

Cafe Winberie's did a name change and renovation to put more emphasis on the history of the building. The food is still good. The beer selection is much improved, as is their wine selection. Due to Black Powder Tavern reopening recently, the place was packed. This made the place fairly loud compared to past times, but it didn't take away from the experience. Our waiter messed up our beer and app orders, but ended up giving us the mis-ordered food. It was frustrating, but again was probably due to their being so busy. We will definitely go back, but will likely wait for the re-newness of it to die down.

The resturant has gone through some sort of managment change/name change and this was their first week with new menu & drink items. Had a hamburger, steak, potatoes, french fries, brussel sprouts and our appetizer was onion soup dumplings. Our dessert was smores with a twist. All the food was delicious the appetizer was so interesting and tasted fantastic. We received outstanding service from the waitress & manager. would definietly eat here again, hope they keep up with the service and food quality because they are reasonably priced for the area and food served.
