The decor is fantastic and very lovely. The menu is elegant and beautifully plated. The foie gras was a little heavy and did not have much refinement. The tuna was excellent and an instant favorite. The pork was moist and tender, but did not have a lot of depth of flavor. I thought it was good, but saw such the high ratings on Yelp and Open Table and expected the place to be amazing. Unfortunately, it did not blow my mind, but maybe I hyped it up so much. Still very good restaurant and great for the price! I do recommend it.

We had one of the most amazing meals ever and we go to fantastic places in Philly and NYC. Laurel was as beautiful inside as the presentation was on the plate. Service was top notch and every wait staff was professional and friendly. I had the Berkshire Pork. It was the best pork dish I have ever eaten. The riciotta gnocchi were fabulous and melted in your mouth. Cheese plate was wonderful for dessert.

  • Immediate Top 5 in Philly

Laurel moves immediately into the Top 5 restaurants in Philly. We had the 7 course tasting menu which included a good amount of the items you read so much about (gnocchi, tuna, foie gras, trout, etc) and a special wagyu beef entree that was out of this world. The desserts were unique so I can see why some may not have enjoyed as much. That said it is hard for me to praise the chef for 6 courses of amazing food, and then bash him because my stupid palate would have really enjoyed a slice of cheesecake to top it all off. I would recommend everyone go as soon as possible but the fact is you can't. They are already booked until June, so I'll tell you to stalk their twitter feed @LaurelEPX instead in hopes of a cancellation. Good Luck!

Laurel is tiny inside. It only seats 22 people at a time but you do not feel cramp or squished in there. The lighting is really cool and I just love the feel of the place. The service was great. Our reservation was for 9PM on a Wednesday night (literally that was all they had and I had booked it a month in advance which is nothing compared to now I guess) and our table was not quite ready. The hostess offered us wine to hold us over which was nice. We literally only had to wait maybe 10 extra minutes so it wasn't a big deal at all. The food was wonderful and creative and just looked so pretty. Towards the end Chef Nick Elmi came out and chatted with each table. He was very personable and is just as adorable as he was on Top Chef.

After reading all the buzz about Laurel, we managed to secure a last minute reservation (cancellation?). We were thrilled to discover the buzz wasn't just hype! The food was excellent, layers of flavors that you discover throughout the meal and some very unexpected flavors. Elmi is focused on the food and it shines! Go now! Those who watched Top Chef will also enjoy the chef sightings...Elmi served us dessert and he was kind and gracious. Nice touch!

Amazing food. I will dream about the first two courses I had. The entrees left a bit to be desired; but the white chocolate pudding dessert will take your breath away. The service was great but felt a little rushed (we brought 2 bottles of wine and champagne; thus looking for a relaxed time). This is a must go to spot. Can't wait to be back!

My husband and I went to Laurel the Saturday night after the Top Chef finale. We were really excited to taste Nick's food and see the restaurant. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful. It's comfortable, not too noisy, and the wait staff is very nice and knowledgeable. Nick came out of the kitchen and brought us our desert, which was a really nice surprise. I highly recommend Laurel.

Went to Laurel for a special occassion wanting a really excellent dining experience and it delivered. Setting is refined yet comfortable, but the real highlight is the food. Tuna appetizer was spectacular, followed by the gnocchi which absolutely blew my mind. The details really put this place over the top, the brown butter to accompany the bread, the presentation, and the staffs' personality. Incredible food in a perfect setting served by genuinely nice people made it an all around wonderful experience. If I had to critique, I would mention that I had to ask for more water, wine, etc. while servers conversed with other customers.

Laurel was simply incredible. The best restaurant I have been to in Philadelphia. From the melt-in-your-mouth albacore tuna to the gnocchi/pancetta combination that exploded in my mouth, this was a near out of body experience for me. Not to mention that it was my girlfriends birthday, and Top Chef champ Nick Elmi came out with a candle and dessert and personally wished her a happy birthday, chatting with us for a few minutes. Now I hate white chocolate, but the white chocolate dessert he served (very similar to the dish he served the on the finale) was an ingenious melding of flavors. And all of this was the day before the finale aired - pretty great guy in person.

The dining room was lovely and very comfortable, staff were very nice and accommodating, and the food was quite good. Flavors were very subtle, but everything was cooked perfectly. The vegetarian in our party was accommodated for each course even though there was not a vegetarian dish on the menu for each course. Our reservation was early so the meal progressed very quickly, but we did not feel rushed, necessarily. Great meal and I will certainly return.

With all the positive hype about Nick Elmi's new BYOB, we had high expectations. Laurel came through big time. The old Fond space has been transformed to a comfortable dining experience with great food. The service was spot on, as they handled our no show guests gracefully. This is a great addition to the Passyunk dining scene. We had the chicken and the Cobia as well as the superb gnocchi. Desert was a tart, delicious lemon curd. Go there whenever a reservation appears.

As close to a perfect meal as I have ever had, including Restaurant August in NOLA and Le Bec 25 years ago. Beautiful, comfortable dining room, great service and the food - ethereal, creative, beautiful! Had the seared shrimp broth with mushrooms - OMG! Roast pork lion for entree was wonderful, but my wife's sea trout was transformative - perfectly cooked and seasoned. I have no idea what the gels and goodies the pork and trout were bedded on but they were delicious and great counter points to the proteins. We shared all the desserts, not because we were hungry but because we couldn't stop! Can't believe how lucky I am to live where I can walk to cooking like this! Make your res and grab your best bottle of wine - you won't regret it!

If I could give Laurel six stars, I would. Everything - the food, the staff, the decor - was outstanding. The chef has clearly given careful thought to everything on the menu and how it all fits together, yet each dish stands on its own with a blend of flavors and textures. We had the tasting menu to maximize our experience so that we had an excellent cross-section. Every time we thought that we had had a spectacular dish that couldn't equalled, the next would come out and be just as good. Of particular note for me were the ahi tuna with Asian pear and horseradish, the gnocchi with pancetta (the lightest I have ever eaten), and the roasted shrimp broth. It was hard to resist the temptation to lick every plate. We will be back.

Run, don't walk....EVERYTHING on the carefully edited menu rocks. Our group ordered strategically so that everything could be sampled, and the kitchen rose to the occasion, pumping out GREAT guinea fowl, tender poulet,, and moist, succulent trout. The sourdough bread was wonderful, and dessert (citrus curd, chocolate concoctions, and more) had everyone scraping the bottom of the bowl. I'm going back....as soon as possible!

It's nice when a restaurant lives up to the hype. We knew we had to visit after dining at the Ritt Tavern last spring. We managed to get an early res on our way to the airport. The front of the house is especially welcoming. The seating is better than when it was Fond. Our neighboring table was a "fan" & Chef was accommodating enough to come out for a pic after he delivered one of our courses was delivered to our table. I imagine anything ordered is wonderful. We can attest to the kampachi and foie gras. The second course items were especially delicious; mushrooms were exc and the gnocchi lives up to its name . Home runs on the entrees of walu and trout. Desserts were good - we tried the pudding and the curd. Very unique and flavorful.

Each dish was delicious, unusual and beautifully presented. Flavors were delicate and interesting. Definitely nothing like anything you've tasted before. The gnocchi were especially yummy.
