I still think this is Batali's hidden gem. Often rises to the level of his pricier ventures, and it feels like Rome in New York. This is by far my favorite restaurant outside of Italy, and after a dozen visits I have never left disappointed even though I have such high expectations. I love Mario. Oh, and we had a wonderful waitress named Diva who could not have been more accommodating despite me being a rather difficult diner. A lovely experience. Thanks to the whole staff, Diva, Anthony, and Diana especially who all served our table at various points (in part because we were there so long (3 plus hours). --Jim Bell

Hi, we were visiting New York for a 4 day eating tour (really). We wanted to try a restaurant that with a well-executed menu, good service and delicious food. We wanted to stay away from overhyped eateries that were overhyped and would treat us like we were lucky to be eating there. We were very, very happy with our experience at Lupa. The service was great. Our waiter was so friendly and helpful. The Tartufo was a big hit with my ice cream loving friends. Oh, and your olive oil was really amazing ... fresh! Thanks for making our meal so memorable.

This was one of the best meals I've had in memory, the prices are very reasonable, which allowed us to order that much more! The sliced Prosciutto di Parma was outstanding, each dish in the large seafood appetizer was unique, cooked to perfection, and the tastes were just incredible. Our pastas, the Carbonara, Orchiette with sausage, and a pasta with pork ragu, amazing, and finally the Saltimbocca was very different than a standard presentation, pan fried perfectly with these great greens. Oh and that awesome Limencello!

I've been to Lupa a few times, and I've never been disappointed. Their pasta fresca is incredible. My favorite regular menu item is the bucatini, but last time I had a special orrechiette served with sausage and greens. Not only was the pasta cooked perfectly, but each little ear was coated in a little bit of the delicious fat that had rendered from the sausage. It was out of this world! I can't wait to go back.

Considering how hard it is to get reservations here, we were expecting delicious dishes, but were left dissapointed. Maybe the dishes are so different that they don't appeal to the common people! The bread and wine served were excellent..however the appetisers and entrees (pasta in cauliflower ragu) was bad..and my husbands pasta dish was also just ok...

Although very enjoyable, we thought that our lunch bill at over $100 for appetizer, salad, simple pasta dish, and one glass of wine for two was a bit much. I'm glad we tried Lupa, and I would recommend it for lunch or dinner. We understand space for ANY venue in Manhattan is at a premium, but we were literally wedged into our seats (my husband is 6'5", at 270 lbs.) with no conversation privacy from the people on either side of us. THAT is not enjoyable, and didn't allow us any comfort in carrying on our own conversation that might be overheard. There are simply too many tables for the space.

The food was lovingly prepared, which really came out in the flavours and textures. The quality of the ingredients used was discernible. The ambience (ambience always comes after food) was also enjoyable, with beautiful hanging ceiling lights and long windows - cosy and inviting atmosphere. The service was fantastic. It was a pity, though, that there was no degustation menu for 2. The tasting menu was for a group of at least 7.

The menu was very interesting and had some fine choices, especially for sharing/tasting. The service was very timely, but not overly friendly. I felt like we were eating on an assembly line. ("Get them in and out for more turnover", I could almost hear.) I had the striped bass special. When it came it had a horrible fishy smell, but it was wonderfully moist and had an excellent taste. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. It was a great place for lunch.
