This is our 3rd time visiting and this place has been consistent with providing excellent entree selections and the menu changes often. The staff is very knowledgeable of the menu items and wine list. I highly recommend checking this place out and be sure to book in advance - if not, you could take advantage of the bar tables on a first come first serve basis.

I was looking for a new restaurant to check out. I read reviews and decided to go with a group of my girlfriends. There isn't much to the menu, but the food was delicious!! It was quiet and not crowded (we were there on a sunday evening, so not sure how it is the rest of the week). We all left there talking about how yummy the food was and couldn't wait to come back and eat again. Our server was also excellent, very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations.

Our trip to Ovvio was a delightful surprise. The food was incredibly fresh and very delicious. The menu is slightly smaller than other places but everything our party of 6 has was quite tasty. It feels like a modern take on Italian cuisine and it hits the mark. Prices are a little high but the quality is there. The portions are not extravagant but they don't leave you hungry either. It's a great place for either drinks and apps or a nice dinner. The wine list is extensive and the staff is personable and extremely attentive and willing to help you navigate through the menus.

We ended up having a 3 hour dinner! Our group had a lot to talk about so it was not painful but totally unplanned and thank goodness we weren't trying to see a movie after. The food was good but it was easily 45 min between appetizer and entree. And after we were seated it was 15 min before my first cocktail arrived. One of our party had to ask for a glass of wine during entree when he had clearly asked for it prior to entree Will give it a try again but if same service we won't come back - there are a million places to eat around here

The food was delicious, especially the squid ink tagliatelle. Service could certainly be improved: my entree arrived about five minutes after the rest of the group's; the server really should have wrapped a cloth around the wine bottle every time she poured to catch any drops (I kept worrying she would get wine on our clothes); and the food was slow to arrive (about 30 minutes after we sat down). I would certainly go back again since all the dishes were scrumptious.

Lives up to it's billing as focused on relatively simple preparation of great ingredients. Loved the Fritto Misto (believe it or not, the carrots were the highlight); short rib ravioli and wild mushroom pizza were quite good as well, and more than plenty split between two (took have the pizza home and will probably split two entrees next time). Can be a bit loud but could still converse.

Parking was a huge problem, and basically ruined the mood of our dinner, considering it took us a half hour to go through the lots, then to valet and then ask the waiter who said they hope people will park at the Dunn Loring metro. Who knew! After that, the food was just OK. Apparently the chef changed, and my experience there last summer after it first opened was much better than this weekend. Bummer, because the area has a lot of potential!

This new Italian restaurant in Merrifield is a winner. The food is modern Italian, with an emphasis on very high quality ingredients and careful cooking. Short rib ravioli was a real stand out. You could really taste the earthiness of the short rib, and the brown sauce was rich without being heavy. Arugula salad was as fresh as can be. Service is unusually good---friendly and accommodating, without being overbearing. A big plus is that, despite all the concrete and high ceilings, it was quiet enough to hold a conversation. A bit expensive, but i wouldn't let that stop you from trying Ovvio.

Tables well spaced so you did not feel on top of neighbors. Attentive wait staff. Good wine list and decent prices. Only possible negative is parking can be challenge. Use free ( with tip to attendant) valet parking when available. Looking forward to next visit.

I had read an article in the Washington Post that said the restaurant had lost its chef and gone downhill. We did not notice any difference in the food, but the daily special menu for $12 dollars now includes only food, not wine options. When they first opened you could get a nice glass of wine and a main course for $12. This time, we could order two food courses, both of which were very good, but had to pay for the wine. My rating reflects the change in the cost/benefit ratio rather than a knock on the quality of the food.

Been there twice. Chef Giovanni is so hospital and warm. He interacts with the guest and makes it a point to remember you. Food was delicious!! Not heavy or greasy that one would come to expect from italian restaurants. But fresh, unique choices with enough variety for grownups and kids alike. Only thing I was surprised about was that they ran out of pizza dough on a Sunday night. Prices are a little high, but you are definitely getting good quality ood. Service has consistently been outstanding. Looking forward to going again soon.

Went to brunch with some friends. The food was excellent and there were many items on the menu that I wanted to try. Our waitress was very nice but a bit spacey. The prices are a bit high for a casual place. They seem to be set up quite well for large groups. Think a large group could have a great time sampling the appetizers and pizzas.

Good food, in a vibrant location. But beware - parking is truly awful in this part of the Mosaic district. There is a valet, but you can waste a lot of time running into dead ends in the parking garages. Go early and be patient. Surely someone will figure out how to correct this problem. It makes me not want to go back...

This was my second visit. Food just as yummy as the first visit. Freshest ingredients, just the right amount of salt and herbs. Tried a lot of items for business lunch. Everything was delicious. The pastas and the meats are incredible. The dessert menu was a bit untraditional my first visit but very unique preparation on classic Italian desserts. Wish the cannoli was made traditional way without the extra flavorings added but other than that no disappointment at all. The bruschettas, salads, calamari were all amazing. Price is a little steep for some items but the quality is worth it. Wine list also has great options on it.

We had the sopressata pizza and the meat platter for appetizers. That was pretty good. We had the squid ink tagliatelle with the jumbo lump crab cake, I know what squid ink pasta is supposed to look like so I wasn't shocked by the colour. I was shocked but how flavorless it was, it lacked salt and it was bordering on cold. The crab cake was just sprinkled pieces of crab throughout the pasta, instead of one crab cake on top, which is how it was listed on the menu. Very disappointing. The chicken parmesano was bland. Just a thick piece of meat, tomato sauce that tastes like it came from a jar and barely any cheese. The caramel chocolate crunch cake was hard and sticky when it should have been warm and soft.

Negative reviews of Ovvio are wrong! Our experience was consistent with the best reviews. We visited for a Thursday evening dinner. Carlos, our waiter, was attentive and not intrusive. Our dinner choices -- Insalata Mista, Grilled Branzino, and the Short-ribs special -- were timely served, with enough time between salad and entrees to feel relaxed but not so far apart we felt delayed. The Branzino was perfectly done, flaky and moist, with just a delicate crusting to compliment the tenderness. The short-ribs were "fall-off-the-bone" tender but not falling apart and the sauce was wonderfully complex. Carlos' recommendation for wine -- Sexual Chocolate (not on the on-line wine list) -- was a perfect compliment to both dishes. We will be back!

This was my third or even fourth visit to Ovvio Osteria, and it was consistent with the ones that preceded it: terrific food (I had shrimp linguine, my guest chose the risotto, and we finished with ricotta donuts), excellent wine and beer lists; a lovely neighborhood feel and ambiance; and amazingly attentive service (hats off, and thank you, Michael) throughout. I had made a special request -- via OpenTable -- regarding ensuring that I and not my guest would be provided the bill, and that was seen to very gracefully by both the welcoming host and by Michael. Highly recommend this venue and look forward to returning often ... [Note, please, that complimentary valet parking is available, although not yet widely advertised.]

Not as good as our first visit. Tuna tartar was barely ok but the caponata was very good although served a little too chilled.. Mushroom risotto was perfectly al dente but had little flavor except butter. Would have benefitted from some wild mushrooms and reconstituted porcinis. Bronzino was very good. The pork shack was a substantial portion with very good polenta but the meat also lacked flavor. We had a very nice moderately priced bottle of wine. We like the atmosphere here and will try again hoping the chef was having a bad night.

I would have given this restaurant 5 stars except we were towed at the end of the night which made a very nice Valentine dinner frustrating and expensive. The parking in this area is poorly marked and there are tow trucks circulating the area. There is a valet however he is overwhelmed so be prepared to wait a while or be careful when self parking. Otherwise - the meal and service were both very nice.

Ovvio Osteria is a great addition to the upcoming Merrifield food scene. We took advantage of the Valentine's special. The asparagus soup was thick and warming. The star was the short ribs - hearty, flavorful, and the truffle mashed potatoes were to die for. I appreciated the tiramisu, as it was just the right size (not a brick!) and had a lovely cocoa flavor. The wine list was short but appealing, with good selections from Italy and California. The 2012 "Sexual Chocolate" was an excellent pairing. Brent was our server. He knew just when to appear and what to recommend. I'd ask for him again.

The 3-course Valentines Day special ($60 @): Tuna Tartare was perhaps 2-3 tablespoons of diced raw tuna atop a little ca. 4-5 inch diameter bed of greens. “Kobe Beef Spares Ribs” was just 1 rib; cheesecake the size of a small cupcake. Service not particularly rapid; they got mixed up and served our dessert before the main course. Wife/I each had 2 glasses wine (added ca. $40-45 to the $120 cost of our meal); total about $165. With tip, it came to right around $200. We were both still hungry afterwards. Ovvia is for those times when: (a) you’re not very hungry; (b) have plenty of time on your hands; and, (c) have a lot of excess money in your bulging wallet that makes it uncomfortable to sit, and/or makes your slacks fit poorly.
