Runner & Stone opened December 2012 as a neighborhood bakery, restaurant and bar. We bake all of our bread and pastries in house, including naturally leavened breads and viennoisseries, using local whole grain flours, dairy and fruit. Our lunch consists of salads, soups and sandwiches for dine-in or take away and feature house-prepared meats and fish on our signature breads. Dinner focuses on seasonal vegetables and meats and includes a full range of house-made fresh pastas. Runner & Stone also has a full bar, serving beer, wine and liquor.

My husband and I ventured in for a very special evening - our anniversary. I noted that I was gluten-free on the rez and someone called me to say that they weren't sure the restaurant was safe for me if I was sensitive since they have a bakery and flour was all over the place. We went anyhow since I had eaten there before without incident. The food was fantastic. The New Fashioned cocktail was out of this world as was the red wine that was paired with my meal. My husband loved his dish. We were gushing. Over each other, our long marriage, and our food. However, I should have heeded the gluten warning. My sensitive little body was a bit wrecked the day after. Highly recommend for everyone except sensitive gluten-free diners.

Terrific young staff. Great service. Some creative food preparations (excellent string beans in a walnut vinaigrette). Nice wine list with some reasonably priced selections. Good all around.

The vegetarian, the meat-lover, the beer drinker and the cocktail lady. We shared several appetizers: special eggplant spread with fried pita, duck pastrami with mustard and salad with lovely tempura'd white beans. Three diners chose pasta: orrechiette with sausage and broccoli rabe (2) and gnocchi. They were devoured. Healthy servings but not obnoxiously large. I had the special black bass and it was delicious. Fresh, perfectly cooked and sauce was divine. Finished with special gelato: cream cheese and barley malt. They were actually delicious. A happy meal for all. Never rushed. Pleasant, well-informed but non-intrusive wait staff. The homemade breads make it all worthwhile.

Ate downstairs. Not a well designed space. My view was a blank wall and the service area. Overpriced wine list. Food very interesting but not outstanding.

We enjoyed a great dinner at Runner & Stone! The entree options were relatively uninteresting, but the pasta dishes that we ordered were stellar. Most restaurants don't make pasta the centerpiece of their dishes, but R&S clearly takes pride in their pasta. The penne with duck confit was delicious, as was the gnocchi. The drinks were merely OK, but the dinner was really very nice. We'd go back again.

We had high expectations for the bread, and it most certainly did not disappoint. Other than that, the pastas were the highlight of the meal. The pacchieri was shockingly good, and on par with the city's best pasta, Michael White and Mark Ladner included. Rye Pappardelle was also a delight.

The pasta was among the best I've had in the city, if portions seemed small. Great and affordable wine list. Dessert unmemorable. Server was condescending and inattentive (didn't get bread, forgot a side), even though it was slow.

Unusual food combinations, wait persons who go out of their way happily to provide what you want (for me it was a vodka/grapefruit/ elderflower concoction) and by all means, try the ove cream sandwich with Nutella...a handsomely designed space where no one rushes you out.

But man does not live by bread alone. Great cocktails, too. But overly salty food & device keeps declining - huge waits for those killer cocktails and food - and even when you ask for the check.

Nice ambiance and staff. The duck arancini was good, as was the sweet potato gnocchi. The squash salad was disappointing. The squash was bland, and tasted like it had just been boiled without any seasoning. My friend couldn't even recognize what it was. The grapefruit tatin was refreshing, but more like a chilled grapefruit soup than a tatin.

Went to Runner and Stone for the first time for dinner on Valentine's day- everything was AMAZING. **duck pastrami, do it. Also the lamb burger was delicious and we had the banana split dessert. The staff was great, very helpful and attentive about my food allergy. Can't wait to try all the bread items for brunch next!

The food at Runner & Stone was excellent. Our party of 3 ordered a few appetizers, and some pasta dishes with our main courses. Everything was delicious, especially the duck pastrami appetizer, the ravioli and orecchiette with the sausage with broccoli rabe - the pasta was clearly made fresh, and the sausage was made in house. Definitely order some pasta! The bread baked on the premises was also fantastic. We had the chicken, steak and lamb burger for dinner, and were all happy. The service was friendly and relaxed. We were not rushed and were able to take our time and enjoy our meal. There seemed to be a crowd waiting for tables when we arrived, but we were seated immediately, thanks to our opentable reservations. Highly recommend!

We loved this place the first few times, but it seems to have gone downhill. Indifferent service, drinks came after apps and waiter was rude about it. food portions were teeny, though tasty. Lovely bread, though

I visited Runner and Stone for the first time and was really blown away by the food and service. Sitting at the bar, I ordered the salad with fried chick peas. It was delicious and perfectly dressed. The main course was Haddock fish on a bed of tender and flavorful roasted vegetables. The brownie dessert was moist, unique and memorable. I appreciated the attentive and informative service from the bartender, who obviously takes pride in the product. This is one of those neighborhood gems that will continue to grow in stature with time. I look forward to my next visit.

Runner and Stone is just great - the staff is very nice and welcoming, the atmosphere is mellow, and amazing food - beautiful handmade pasta, a great fishcake wrapped in bacon, tasty duck pastrami - just fantastic. Nice reasonably priced wine list as well. I'd definitely give Runner and Stone my highest recommendation.

Runner and Stone has a marvelous bakery that provides bread to other restaurants in the area, but their menu is stellar on its own. The interior is rustic and uses natural materials, and the menu is a wonderful blend of inventive and comforting. I loved everything on the table and would go back in a minute! Favorite new neighborhood restaurant!

This was a last minute decision to dine and the other place we were looking for did not work out and we decided to try this place and we had an amazing experience. First off, this place is a bakery and they have baked stuff in the morning along with coffee and espresso/latte/cappuccino. However, their dishes turned out to be marvelous as well and it is a must-try place.

An unforgettable pasta dish. Excellent. Great bread. Very nice waitstaff, but incredibly slow and fairly inattentive. A very, very hot day and water took a very long time to come. Menus too. The place isn't well airconditioned, so it was extremely uncomfortable. Dessert order also took so long we were inclined to skip it.

The food is consistently great, they bake their own bread on premises, and the price points are really low considering the quality. I'm sort of happy R&S is a bit out of the way because it would be ludicrously popular in the middle of the Slope or on Smith Street. A real gem. Also: avoid the Pines across the street at all costs!!

Even though we waited for 50 minutes on a Tuesday night to get our reserved table, we had a positive experience at this tiny spot. Great service, very good food, nice wine (though only one person mentioned the 1/2 off bottle deal that was available that night), and nice atmosphere. It is a small space and pretty loud, but not terribly so. I would definitely recommend and I will return.
