A word from Siena Bistro
Siena Bistro is an intimate restaurant hidden behind Lincoln Avenue in downtown Willow Glen where you can dine with good friends or have a romantic evening. Enjoy the lovely patio for al fresco dining. Due to the location, Siena bistro is a "secret" to some people, but those who find it say it's like stepping into another world. A wide selection of salads, and pastas are offered with delicate, yet mouth watering flavors. Our friendly staff will help you decide between house favorites such as our fresh salmon, sole almandine or beef bourguignon. Well researched California and Mediterranean wines, are the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Brioche Bread Pudding, Lemoncello Tiramisu or any of our house-made desserts would be a perfect ending to your dining experience.
We hope to see you whether it is your first visit or you are one of our many regulars!

Siena Bistro is a great find, especially since my husband and I prefer patronizing locally-owned restaurants over big-chains. Our hats are off to the chef---the crusted salmon is a must-try. I even had another restaurant patron ask me if it was as delicious as it looked. (It was!) Because the restaurant is located in a parking lot behind Lincoln street, I rated the ambiance as "good," but it has a nicely enclosed garden-like eating area (where we dined) and a cozy inside seating area that surrounds a long, elevated bar. One couple brought a child in a stroller which was fairly difficult for them to manage around the tight grouping of tables. We probably wouldn't opt to bring our small children unless dining very early.

My wife and her girlfriends have been coming here for lunch for years. This was our first dinner - oustanding - great wine list - back patio seating is ideal and very attentive wait staff. Specials were interesting and the wine flights were very good offering of imported wines, something we californians don't think about too often. Also for those that have them - the restaurant accepts "Passport" discount cards soon to be our new local favorite haunt for dining.

Wonderful dining experience. New chef who took over in the last year is amazing. I could eat there every night for 2 weeks, and try something new each night. Food is very well priced for the exceptional quality, as is the wine list. I would highly recommend Siena Bistro.

Short Ribs were good but to expensive. The polenta was the best. My wife's veal cutlets were terrible with to much bread coating. They were like expensive chicken fried steaks. The dining room was to noisy with the cell phones going full blast at the next table. These folks should take the calls out of the dining room.

We've been there a few times since the new owner, Dave, took over, and it keeps getting better. Dave loves to hear feedback - if its not right, he'll make it right, and you can see the effect in the changes since he opened. The wine list is solid, the food is tasty. The specials are great. We had the rack of lamb (available in a half rack) which was cooked just right and delicious. We also had the crab with avocado salad special. Very tasty - just a bit of hot spice on the crab and a light vinagrette on the lettuce, but the flavors came through well. Pork Picatta was very tasty. The couple next to us were good friends with the previous owner and decided to try the new owner out. They were very happy with the quality and service.

Indoor seating was very uncomfortable, we then moved to an outdoor table as soon as one opened up, although I had to ask twice (we mentioned we would like to sit outside if possible, when we first got to the restaurant; the hostess said "no problem", but then forgot about us). Upon moving outside, we found ourselves seated next to a toddler that was very loud & rambunctious, (but cute, etc.). It just wasn't the relaxing evening I was looking for, and we had an out of town guest who had never been to Siena. Food was good but not excellent. We were not able to have large red wine glassese (we brought our own wine), as one table seemed to have monopolized them all. Buy a few more!

Food was good. The mushroom soup (one of the specials of the day) was very tasty, & super light. Almost froth-like, which I'm not convinced is a good thing. While my husband enjoyed it, we agreed that we wouldn't have been able to finish a cup on our own. A cup was perfect for sharing between the 2 of us. My husband ordered the sphagetti, which was good, but the sauce was a bit too meaty. Still I think we'd order it again. My chicken masala didn't look like chicken masala to me (it was a bit orange), but it was tasty. The side of mash potatoes were good too. I'd order it again. Prices reasonable. The restaurant is small, but has a nice cozy feel to it. Wait staff was friendly & attentive. Overall, a good find in Willow Glen.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

The food was so exceptionally good! Fantastic (and huge) scallop salad blew us away. Pasta primavera flavorful and delicious, so much more than just a vegetarian option. Great rack of lamb and fabulous berry tart for dessert (my boyfriend who wanted just one bite couldn't stop eating until the plate was empty!). Unfortunately, the people at the tables on either side of us knew each other and held a conversation across our table (did they think we weren't interested in having our own conversation?). One table left, the remaining table continued to be quite loud (and apparently they are friends or aquaintances of the chef - he came out to chat with them, hovering over my boyfiend, but never inquring about how our meal was).

Siena Bistro is indeed a rare find. Tghe owner and chef is 'David'. He often comes out of the kitchen to say hello to diners. He's very cordial, friendly and lovebale and his food is equal to his charm. You have never had Telapia the way this man makes it! And his Short Ribs are to die for! (Never greasy, just full of flavor!) The place says it's on Lincoln, but it actually in the back of Casa Casa, (a furniture store there) and so the ambiance is that of a resturant one might discover wander the back streets of Paris or Italy. David's Server's take their que from him. They are friendly and very attentive. Even the 'bus boy' is determined to keep you glass full of water and your dishes removed when empty! Go there! You'll love it!

It was a 30 minute wait for our entree after our appetizers were taken away. When it finally arrived, only one of the 2 entrees was ready. My entree was getting cold waiting for my friend's entree to arrive. When it finally arrived, the spaghetti noodles were undercooked and we asked to have it sent back to the kitchen. 10 minutes passed until the entree returned to us with the noodles appropriately cooked. By then, my own entree was cold, we were late for our next appointment, and I had lost my appetite. We were there to celebrate my friend's birthday and I was very disappointed in the poor delivery, poor food, and poor service.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 5/2/2008
Chef had a really misleading menu item, which I ordered. I thought that the waitress mistakenly sent the wrong order to the kitchen. But no - that's what it was. Big, horsey spaghetti noodles in some kind of broth to which chef added gorgonzola cheese. So it was a gray stinky liquid at the bottom of the pasta bowl. I didn't eat a bite. Chef came to the table, explained his rationale for offering that kind of recipe, and didn't apologize - he made me the wrongdoer just for ordering it. Apparently, my bad. Nothing was comped, especially the crappy pasta. Husband's pork (?) picatta was mediocre, the mashed potatoes were so well beaten that they were gluey! Disappointing.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

The chef came out personally to describe one of the specials, a filet mignon with ancho chili seasoning/rub. 2 members of our party of 4 got that special; it was a bit too spicy for one of them. I tried it, and thought the spice was a bit overpowering - covering up the delicate flavor of a filet. I think the rub would be great for a fattier piece of meat, such as a ribeye. My rack of lamb was perfect, and the scalloped potatoes were the best I've ever had. Our corkage fee was waived when we purchased a second bottle off the wine list - I love that. Our server was outstanding and had a good sense of humor. Overall, it was a fun dining experience, and up to par with our previous experiences at this restaurant. We'll be back!

For as expensive as it was, it was not an intimate, romantic place. There's no privacy. The food wasn't bad, but not really inspired. The desert was particularly disappointing: The "chocolate cake" on our ice cream sandwich had all the presence of a Hostess Ding Dong. We had to ask for hot coffee, as the coffee we were served was stone cold.
