  • Biggest lobster roll around!

First time at the Tavern. The dining room is nice, but we sat outside on the patio. There's a tall fence to give privacy but you still can enjoy the sun and breeze. Tables are nicely spaced so there is plenty of room and some privacy if you want. Two of us ordered the lobster roll - great! The Tavern doesn't load up on fillers. In fact the roll (at least double the size of a hot dog roll many restaurants use) had a bed of crunchy lettuce, then nearly a whole lobster. There was a full tail (sliced lengthwise), two claws and two knuckles. What's really nice is they let you decide if you want mayo or butter - either (or both) served on the side. Perfect! Will go back to try some of the other offerings. Recommended.

Very convenient for Maine State Music Theater and events on the Bowdoin College campus. The lobster roll is full of fresh meat and is great with their home made potato chips. Our service was good but with a couple of slip ups with table settings of water and salt and pepper. They were out of some of their wine selection but the server made alternate suggestions. I would highly recommend this spot for any event that is occurring on the Bowdoin campus.

  • Good restaurant in nice new hotel

Brunswick needed more hotel options near campus, and the inn at Brunswick station seems to have filled that need. The restaurant/tavern in the hotel is a good choice for a very nice pre-theater dinner. A lovely patio was visible from our table, and we will know to request a patio table next time.

Reservations were made for a Sunday Eve in August, arrived on time and was immediately seated. Dining area had a good crowd, but did not feel overcrowded. Noise level was typical for a tavern like atmosphere. While enticed with a nice menu selection. The overall preparation of all items ordered made it just average fare. Both the Mussels appy and Scallop/Lobster risotto entree (still ordered despite informed no scallops) was overcooked. The Lobster Mac&Cheese and Lobster Mashed potatoes, while tasty, could of used a bit more lobster bits. Items we enjoyed include: the Crisp Fresh Salads, Calamari appetizer, and Teriyaki Glazed Hanger Steak entree and the Braised Short Ribs entree (only a single boneless rib). Lobster Stew was excellent.

Convenient to Maine State Theater and Bowdoin College. Efficient staff who were told we were headed to theater. Server pointed out quickest entrees and gave us very prompt service. Outstanding lobster roll served "naked" with melted butter and mayo on the side. Large toasted roll was filled with both claw and tail meat. Sandwiches served with choice of homemade chips, fries or side salad. Outdoor dining was pleasant.

My husband found this place online by doing a search. With me being vegetarian, it's hard to find good restaurants with a commitment to veg dishes. This one did a fantastic job! We're definitely going back, absolutely no question! The ambience was cozy and comfortable, while modern and hip. The service was awesome - we were taken care of immediately, with just the right amount of checking in. It really was a great experience!

At a 6:15 reservation it was clear the bartender was overwhelmed (could not get a glass of wine in 15 min.), the kitchen could not get food out to the tables, the waitstaff was frustrated and we didn't need to get into their problems so we left after twenty minutes. It is right across the street from the Maine State theater and would make a great pre-show venue but they just couldn't handle it.

We had the tomato mozzarella salad, clam chowder, lobster roll and chicken salad sandwich. The lobster roll was outstanding, packed with fresh lobster on a toasted bun - just right. The chowder was also good - brothy and with a hint of lemon. I'm a chowder fanatic and I appreciated it being a little different but still delicious. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and it was packed with finely chopped clams. The chicken salad had good flavor. I didn't like the croissant it was on. It was supposed to be toasted and it looked like it had been but it was cold with the sandwich. It also had one of those sweet glazes which I hate on croissants. Fries were delicious. Service was fine - friendly and efficient.

Electing to have brunch before a production of Maine State Music Theater was an excellent idea. Beginning with a good-szed bowl of fresh fruit, we choose to have a traditional breakfast, although the entire brunch menu was very tempting. The food was good, especially the fruit bowl. The bacon was crisp as I had asked for. I have only two negative comments......... we had to find a waitress to order our meal even though we told her up front we were attending the theater after, and I was not offered a refill on my coffee.

I guess this restaurant is all a question of expectations -- based on previous reviews as well as the way Brunswick Inn advertises their restaurant, I was expecting something high-end gourmet; but it is not. It is a cute little space that is half sports-bar and half restaurant. The food is ok and is sea-food based as you would expect for this location, but was nothing gourmet or extraordinary; in fact, the desert we selected (dark chocolate gelato) was pretty bad (you could tell it was made from the powdered baking coca because it tasted like eating powdered baking coca). So, this is a nice little charming restaurant if you are looking for a casual dinner in Brunswick, but if far from a culinary masterpiece.

Four of us had dinner at the Inn at Brunswick this week. The waitress was friendly and helpful. A group of musicians were playing outside on the open air patio beside the bar-dining room area. The bar ambiance with a TV going was informal and cozy. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre. My husband had pulled pork that was tasteless. I had a salad with peaches and nuts that was ordinary. I had a Panini with veggies that was soggy and unappealing. Our friends did not eat much of their food. Too bad that the food is not better because the environment is pleasant.

Our first time there was for a special occasion. Maybe the server was new, but the mgmt really needs to invest in more training for its staff. This gal was not knowledgable about the wine list, how the salmon was cooked. Our water glasses were never refilled. Dessert menus not offered nor coffee. She obviously had a cold which made me a little nervous. I think she did not feel well and her barely adequate service reflected that. We had to send back glasses because they had food stuck to them. Whilst the atmosphere is nice and the menu looks good I am encouraged to try it again.

A great addition to the many Brunswick dining options. The environment is elegant yet semi-casual. The service is formal yet warm and friendly. Great for day to day dining out options but appropriate for special occasions as well. Many options for a variety of food preferences. Nice selection of beverages and a full bar. Nice private patio for outdoor dining. Would definitely recommend and will return in the near future. Walking distance from downtown Brunswick and Bowdoin College Campus.

    Dined on 5/11/2013
There were so many things great about dining here. Clean, great waitress, good wine, good beer, great menu selections, but unfortunately, we were a little disappointed in the price--for the serving sizes, the meals were overpriced. The scallop and lobster risotto had us literally digging for the lobster. Considering it was 11 dollars more than the spring risotto, we had great expectations. Some more lobster meat (and not just a few shards of the tips of the claws but the meaty part of the lobster) and even a little more risotto in a bowl not a plate would have been worth the extra money. A little better garnish would do, too. So much potential here for sure. We will consider coming again...
