Each time I visit Costata I find myself saying that it is my overall favorite restaurant in NYC right now. The food is excellent and the atmosphere appropriately elegant but it is far from stuffy. The service is impeccable yet friendly and approachable. Honestly they have the best Caesar salad I've ever had. It is strange to crave something so simple but I do. The pastas are great and they are the right size. Just enough so that you can enjoy it without spoiling the entree. The steaks are perfectly seasoned. The wines are fun and interesting and the bartenders make some great and innovative cocktails as well.

The food at the restaurant was delicious. As usual his pastas are all fresh and the ingredients as well. There is an excellent crudo and appetizer menu and the selection of meats and pastas is superb. It is meat heavy but I was able to find a few dishes for the pescetarian in me. The impeccable combination of textures and flavors make this restaurant ideal for foodies. We went for NYE and they treated us very well. The service was excellent.

The evening was wonderful. Conrad and Hannah were great. Conrad knew his product from front to back. He made me aware of things on the menu I might have overlooked. It would have been a shame if I had missed the scallops, and white truffle risotto. Raphael read our minds and picked a perfect wine. The porterhouse was medium rare perfection. The salad a salty treat with capers. A wonderful evening in beautiful surroundings.

The decor was very nice. Service was Good as well. Had a problem with the wine. Ordered the dunn1999 and it did not taste good. Sommelier (kid maybe 25 years old) came to the table and tried the wine and told us that was the "earthiness" of the wine. For $270 we should at least like the wine.....there were only 10 bottles under $200. Very limited wine list for inexpensive wine.

We ordered the signature 44 ounce Costata and the meat was unacceptable. We know that the ribeye cut is supposed to be highly marbled, but this had way too much fat to meat ratio...and it was stringy! It was highway robbery at $126 when the eatable amount of meat was notably less than half of the advertised 44 ounces. Our server was unreceptive to our comments. Her response was to grin at our complaint, then say "alright then" and walked away. Not very professional, nor appropriate. We are big fans of Michael White's restaurants but we won't be going back to this one!

All three of their signature steaks are great. Pastas are comparable to any that you might have in Italy. Service was very attentive. Although I enjoyed the background music ( classic rock) it seemed a little too hip for the ambience. As a steak lover I would put it in the top 10 for NYC.

Food was great - steak was awesome and the pastas were awesome as well. We ordered all but 2 pastas on the menu (instead of getting potatoes or some other sides). I liked the carbonara, oxtail ragu and the rigatoni but they were all good. Wines were good, cocktails as well. So was the crudo before. The only thing bad was the service. They forgot our cocktails and brought out the crudo before we even got our cocktails. Its probably a one off thing. Otherwise, it was one of the best restaurants ive been to in awhile.

I was there for a nice evening out with the girlfriend on a nice fall night. Things were going well, but then the service started. I understand it was a busy night. There were two tables to 6+ guys surrounding us, but we were ignored the entire night. It took 30 minutes to get a drink order, and another 15 minutes before we were asked for our dinner options. The waiter was joking around with the other staff and didn't bother helping the night go any smooth. The food was okay, but I expect much more. The steak was average but I think the service and being ignored made me lose my appetite.

I visited this restaurant for one reason only: to see whether the costata would live up to the hype - especially with the recent Time Out New York nod to it as one of the top 100 dishes in NY. I probably should have studied the prices prior to reserving the table. There was no way around spending what we did. The food was exquisite, beautiful, and super yummy. We had to try some of everything from the oysters and razor clam appetizer to the beef and lamb entrees. Everything cooked to perfection. Desserts? Why not? Gelato Alla Meringa was my favorite although the Crostatina was a big hit too.

I'm a huge fan of Michael White's restaurants, and Costata absolutely did not disappoint. The food, of course, was wonderful (do NOT miss the 'Costata' steak, which is a Tomahawk Ribeye) and the portions were absolutely enormous (scallop crudo = a full plate of scallops topped with black truffle?!?!) The wine list was also terrific; two of the four in our party weren't drinking wine, so we had to stick to half bottles, and they had some fantastic half bottles. But there are lots of great steakhouses in town. For me, the best part of the meal was the service - absolutely impeccable, but so friendly that I'd call it 'warm.' For me, this was a home run. I'll definitely be back - as soon as I lose the 5 pounds I gained last night!

I went to Costata for dinner with my boyfriend for his birthday. He is a big foodie and had been reading up (and drooling over) the reviews and pictures of Costata's famous tomahawk steak for months. Although the atmosphere feels a but like a corporate lunch spot that you would find in Midtown, the food certainly made up for it. If you are looking to impress your friends with one of the best steaks they will have during their lifetimes, definitely check out Costata!

Food is good. But for such an expensive place you would expect better hostess staff and seats that don't put the butts of people crowding at a bar right next to your head. If they cared about the dining experience as much as the food this would be a great place but they forget the experience is part of the evening. So disappointing.

I was very excited to try Costata as my dad who lives in SOHO told me about it. Made the reservation 2 weeks ago and getting the reservation was not a problem. My wife and I were seated promptly. Waiter was a little light on personality but no big deal. We asked some questions and did not received much from waiter. We were very hungry and after we ordered we waited for bread that never came. I had to ask for bread. The busboy put flat water in my sparkling water. Had to ask for another piece of bread. Food came and it was great. Steak was a little more red than I usually like for medium. I would go back and give it another chance.
