This is not the restaurant for me as I don't eat meat. However The fish I ate was ok but not exceptional. How come there wasn't any poultry, not even one Chicken dish? I was disappointed because I love Michael Whites other restaurants.

Took some out-of-towners there for the first time. Everything was perfect, from start to finish. The staff was very attentive and the food was prepared well. The boneless ribeye was cooked as requested and the seasoning provided the perfect accent to the flavor of the beef without being overpowering. The wine list is extensive and has great selections from Italy, France and the US. I would highly recommend Costata.

We had an early Saturday evening table and enjoyed 4 courses of heaven; Fluke Crudo, Quail, Ricotta Ravioli, Beef Tenderloin and Torte di Mascarpone. Every bite was delicious. The food and service were fantastic, even if we were slightly rushed out towards the end. The atmosphere was intimate but lively, until an older couple asked for the mid-level music to be turned down. The check was a little on the expensive side but was worth every cent. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a top notch meal in Soho. - @SamUKSays

The steaks here are good but not as good as at Delmonico's or Smith & Wollensky -- but they are more expensive! And the hard surfaces here make the dining room very loud. We could hardly hear ourselves talk in a nearly empty dining room. The two table of four on either side of us were talking in normal voices but they converged over us. Carpeting would go a long way to solve the problem.

The Tomahawk Steak was disappointing since it is a staple on their menu along with their porterhouse. It was more grizzle and fat than one would expect for the cost of the dish. Wasn't particularly flavorful either considering this is the Michael White restaurant with an emphasis on steak. The two house made pastas we selected were amazing, rich, flavorful, heavenly. Lobster salad appetizer was just ok. Found a good bottle of wine for $100. All in the tab was $400, clearly you can dine in an array of restaurants at this price point for two and find excellence. They do try, maybe too hard but appear to want to relax a bit as evidenced from the classic rock playing in the background which for the space and location I thought appropriate.

We have been to almost all of Mr White's restaurants. Al Fiori and Costata seem to miss the mark. Steak is hot but not the strong suit at Costata. There is an Italian restaurant that besides serving great Italian food it's Porterhouse, Beefsteak Fiorentina, is superb....Morandi. Will continue going to both Osterini's.

Normally I do not feel complelled to write a review but given the disappointing meal I experienced this past Saturday night. The decor was not anything special but as my friend and I said that is not what is important, we came for good steak. We ordered the rib eye, romaine salad, potato puree, creamed spinach. Our order arrived, Immediately we noticed the meat had white lines in it, we hoped it was fat, it was gristle. The rib eye was chewy and the gristle was throughout the entire order. The quality of the meat was shocking as even from a grocery store you get something more tender. Our sides and salad were unremarkable, bland. Overall, we both said, the quality was comparable to a chain restaurant. Diners beware.

having eaten a number of Chef White's restaurants, as well as more than few steakhouses, we were looking forward to our meal and it did not disapppoint. while it was a bit of a chore to find a reasonablly priced bottle of red wine, the wine steward steered us in the right direction with a $ friendly bottle to go with our delicous steaks. but do not miss the pastas, a few we had as a shared course which were divine. the sides were also excellent as were the desserts. the bill was not outrageous and well worth every dollar. looking forward to our return!

Everything from the salad to the steak was fresh and nicely presented. The Romaine Cacio salad was simple, yet flavorful. The pasta was exceptional. (I had the Pansotti.) I found the 44 oz Costata Tomahawk Ribeye, which we split among three people, to be perfectly cooked and seasoned. (You may wish to split the appetizers, salad, pasta, and ribeye, as our server suggested.) As to the ambience, although not excessively quiet, it is quite suitable for dinner and a quiet conversation with friends. Overall, Costata provided an enjoyable dining experience.

It was my second time at Costata and the experience met my expectations once again. We were celebrating a friends' birthday, but the meal itself was so delicious, no one had room for dessert. The steak was cooked to PERFECTION and ordering the smashed crispy red potatoes is a MUST.

As a Marea devotee, I was excited to try this meat-focused spot, especially given the downtown location. The food is flawless; scallop crudo with truffle vinaigrette, warm seafood salad loaded with perfectly poached shrimp, scallops, baby octopus, tender squid and fruity olives, and the Fiorentina steak for two was a great way to get two different cuts of flavorful aged beef on one giant platter. Prices, especially for red wines by the glass, are outlandish but not surprising. Cocktails are small but well-executed. The only detractor was the service, which was noticeably absent when we first sat down (wine please?) and then again missing when we were looking for the check. Otherwise, grand food with an equally grand price tag.

Simply amazing - everything from the cocktails, to the appetizers, entrees and after dinner drinks. One of the best meals I have had this year - everything was spot on. Only downside was their over the top wine list and a $50 corkage to boot - won't keep me from coming back though!

It was not what I expected. I am a huge Ostrria Morini fan and love that Michael White. This was a steak house with a little pasta. The service was great and the staff very friendly. The music was a little loud, and I did not expect classic rock to be playng, but it did the whole time we were there. The wine list had a great selection, but was very pricey. I am glad I tried it, buut would not return.

The raw scallops with truffle were off the charts, but not as good as the spaghetti with white clam sauce which may have been the best I have ever had! Our tomahawk steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection- no sauce or spices necessary at all. Really amazing- as were the sides. Very sheik- two story restaurant with nice small bars on each level. Went with friends who live around the corner- who had no idea about it. They will go back often.

Overall a great dining experience for a recent birthday dinner except for the fact that the restaurant wouldn't allow me to give out cookies I had brought for the birthday celebrant as a special touch without wanting to charge me $10 per person, when my party had already spent almost $1000!! A little absurd and quite honestly just poor taste.

From the appetizers to the desserts, every dish was over the top! We had the Costata (Tomahawk Ribeye) steak for Two - the best steak I've eaten yet. The crispy red bliss potatoes and (ever so flavorful) escarole sides were its perfect accompaniments. We had the vanilla pane cotta and semifreddo for desserts. Both were incredibly delicious. The components of the dessert dishes complimented each other so well!

If you have but one meal left, where would you eat it? If, within that meal preference, you were carnivorous, certainly you would consider a steak, yes? Well fair readers, look no further than Costata. For my money, I have never (and I mean NEVER...across hundreds of restaurants around the world) had a more perfectly prepared piece of meat than the succulent 60-day dry aged Costata from Costata. It simply must be consumed to be believed. Do yourself a favor: on these chilly nights of winter, reserve a table now. You'll be glad you did.

Each time I visit Costata I find myself saying that it is my overall favorite restaurant in NYC right now. The food is excellent and the atmosphere appropriately elegant but it is far from stuffy. The service is impeccable yet friendly and approachable. Honestly they have the best Caesar salad I've ever had. It is strange to crave something so simple but I do. The pastas are great and they are the right size. Just enough so that you can enjoy it without spoiling the entree. The steaks are perfectly seasoned. The wines are fun and interesting and the bartenders make some great and innovative cocktails as well.
