We love eating at Russell's - food is always good, waitstaff is experienced and friendly but not overbearing. Salads are crispy, entrees are generous and very tasty. Good wine list, and listed in order of increasing price so you can select a wine within your pre-defined price range.

We were looking for a nice place to have dinner the other evening while in the north end of Lake Washington and were excited to find Russell's on Open Table, rated by previous diners at 4 1/2 stars. The tag line of fresh, local food prepared simply was appealing. We didn't expect simply to mean bland, however. The wait staff was attentive but not warm. The wine suggestion was spot on and the salmon excellent. However, the accompanying gnocchi and vegetables were dry and tasteless. The entree and salad arrived promptly, but the lag time between them and the entree was interminable - and we are slow eaters! Decent - yes. Memorable - not. Considering a bill of $100 for an average dinner, not the best value.

We had been talking about going to Russell's for about 2-3 years and finally went last Sunday evening with my wife's parents. Our experience was fantastic, the wine list was great and the food/service was even better. I highly recommend.

  • Tasty food, but proportions off
    MsHeatherNW
    Dined on 6/22/2013
The food here was delicious but the proportions were off. My Brie on Baguette appetizer had 6 portions, more than any one person could eat and still have any room left for dinner! It would have been nice if it had been offered in individual or sharing sizes. My boyfriend had the lamb with risotto, and while he said the risotto was delicious, he got maybe 1/3 cup of it. I ordered the gorgonzola and walnut ravioli, and while they were also delicious, I only received six 1.5" raviolis in my entree, accompanied by over a pound of mushrooms. I was quite disappointed in how few ravioli were in the dish, especially considering I don't even eat mushrooms! Their flavors are good, they just need to serve more appropriately proportioned dishes.

A wonderful discovery of fish from Puget Sound. Grilled to perfection with a buttery ver blanc sauce. I appreciated the locally sourced fish, much better than the typical Alaskan salmon served in many seafood outlets around town. Dinning room is large, impersonal and somewhat noisy.

We really liked that the restaurant supports Washington wineries by not charging a corking fee if you bring in your own favorite bottle of Washington wine. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect—we ate every bite. Our server was so-so. A bit perfunctory. And we were in early when it wasn't busy. That was the only downside. That, and the restaurant wasn't particularly...charming. That said, we're definitely giving it another visit. The food was just too delicious not to.

Decided to try this restaurant based on recommendations from some others in the wine industry. Made reservations for 7:30 PM and we arrived a little too early so we had a glass of wine in the lounge. We were shown to our table about 7:30 and the waitress was very nice and knowledgable. We started with a Pan Seared Scallop appetizer and it was awesome. My wife ordered the Prawn Fettucine and I orderd a Rib Eye special. (Note - order your steak EXACTLY as you like it because that's how it will be cooked. I usually order Medium to get a Medium Rare steak. My steak was cooked Medium. My fault.) All in all a wonderful dining experience.

6th time at Russell's and the last time for a steak. First three time the steaks (New York or Rib Eye Special) were fantastic. I called Russell's the Metropolitan Grill of the east side at 1/2 the price. Now the last three times the steaks (2 New Yorks) were flavorless and (1 Rib Eye Special) was great testing but stringy and tough. I just cooked a better RibEye at home that I bought at Costco for $9. My Daughter has had the Salmon all 6 times and loves it and can't wait to go back and my WIfe has had the Halibut and has loved every bite. The scallops for an appetizer are always perfect. I will skip ordering a steak and try something else. When you pay $34 to $48 for a steak it had better be good and unfortunately they have let me down.

Food served beautifully and at correct temperature. Portions were more than delicate. I'm a vegetarian and there were 2 dishes that were head-turners. I could keep on - go and enjoy the place Get the mussels - or so says the spouse.

We visited Russell's for an anniversary dinner, the food was excellent, we really appreciated that the steak didn't have the salty taste that you normally get at restaurants, it was also cooked to perfection. We loved the seasonal menu and ordered most of our selections from this. The wine by the glass list had a good choice too

We came with friends who were celebrating their 40th Wedding Anniversary. we would choose to come here for our Anniversary and we would bring our family. The food was excellent. Perhaps the best chicken we have had. The service was wonderful. The ambience was divine. We commented on this as soon as we walked in. Thank you so much for being close by.

Service was superb with waiter being preemptive on our needs. Being on the edge of the dining area with straight view of wait area was a little disconcerting. I can see having a table more in the middle of the dining room or at the back would lead to more ambience Food was wonderful and I wished I had had room for more, particularly dessert

This was just a great meal for my wife and myself. We had a pork belly appetizer, my wife had the rack of lamb and I had a special rib eye steak. They were all very, very good. We had not had a pork belly before and I always wanted to try some. It was better than I thought it would be and I thought it would be pretty good. Our wait person was Heather and she was perfect. We liked her a lot and hope she cans serve us again. This is a wonderful restaurant. We have been there maybe 1/2 dozen times, but I think we will make it our go to restaurant for special occasions. jack

The restaurant ambiance was nice but I can't say the same about the food quality. Our mussel appetizer was very fishy. My seared duck breast was fatty and the duck thigh in my daughter's cassoulet was dry and tasted like liver. We expect better food for the prices that we paid. We were made to wait 15 minutes until our reservation time even though there were plenty of open tables. I don't think we will return to Russell's anytime soon.

The food and service were wonderful. I loved the farm house feel. We had dinner on a busy Saturday night. The only negative I could find is that it was way too loud. My husband and I had a hard time hearing each other from across the table. Our server was very attentive, while not a annoying. There was a large selection on the menu and large portion sizes for the price. I would go back again, just not for a quiet romantic dinner for two.

$200 (tab including $35 tip) is too much for a poor steak ($38) and a noisy environment. Scallops were excellent. Wife and I gave up trying to talk as it was so noisy. Our waiter was very good. The New York steak although cooked a perfect rare-medium rare had little to no flavor and had a large vein of griscle running through it. My wife's scallops were perfect. My description of Russell's is "a fancy but more expensive Applebees"! This place is beautiful but they need to completely rework the menu or cut the prices in half.

Must have been an off night, very few in restaurant and food was mediocre, pork chops were very salty, baby spinach salad lacked flavor, the mushroom bisque was far too rich, on a positive note the sea scallops and brie baguette combo were good. The pictures of dining room on website are based on the banquet area and far different then the restaurant which lacks character.
