The food was very good, as it has been on prior visits. The service is always at the mercy of the kitchen, in getting the food out. The meal was ruined by the loud obnoxious behavior of the 4 children at the adjoining table of 8 ( 4 adults, 4 kids ) at the back of the outdoor area. The parents allowed the kids, some of which were middle school age, to run back and forth in the dining area, to stand at the railing and to loudly yell at the ducks, and to generally take over the dining area without supervision. These parents obviously feel that outdoors means a playground ambience. The management did nothing to stop the running and yelling. The one older boy was a fat crew-cutted Pugsley. Perhaps they're rowing club members, not customers.

Service was excellent, we had multiple staff members attending to us throughout the meal. As for the food, started out with oysters that were not very fresh so would avoid those in the future but the cheeses we selected were excellent. The lobster and crab fettuccine dish was fantastic. Ricotta cheesecake for dessert was just ok though. Took a while to seat us outdoors but gave us time to have a drink at the bar. We had a chat with the bartender who was very friendly and he even gave us complimentary glasses of Prosecco at the end of our meal since we had mentioned it was our 9th wedding anniversary dinner. It was fun to take a stroll afterwards by the dock slips on the river too. A memorable night at the Boathouse, will definitely return!

It was our first time dining at the Boathouse. We dined outside on a beautiful evening. Food was very good. Antonio was our server and he was great. We felt like we were in Positano Italy and not Westport. Can't wait to go back

Only go when outdoor seating is available. Because it was cold, all doors were closed; noise level was very high. When sitting, one cannot see out the windows to the lovely river view. Bar is, literally, in the dining room in a small corner. One would be standing directly in front of people seated at dining tables. Room is small and claustrophobic. Our servers were competent and nice; very hard for them to be heard due to noise level. It was a Saturday night; every table was full. One co-ed WC on dining floor. Two downstairs, two flights down. Food approval was mixed; pasta dishes (2 orders) better than fish(2 orders.) Starter salads very nice. Cannolis very routine.

The Boathouse is a charming little place with an exciting menu of modern Italian with a nice creative flare. Our appetizer course was spectacular. I had beautiful charcuterie and even better cheeses. But, my wife noted immediately that the bread wasn't really up to the quality expected of a place of that caliber. From appetizers we moved onto a pasta course of butternut squash ravioli. And, while in a flavorful sauce, the squash filling was bland and the ravioli lifeless. Given this is a favorite dish of ours, we were pleased to eat it but disappointed. And, when our main course came it was under-seasoned and my steak, though cooked perfectly to rare, was tough. Desert was mediocre except for the Parmesan gelato. That was a delight!

We are from Philadelphia and were in the area to celebrate our graduating daughter's induction into Phi Betta Kappa - a very special academic achievement. We wanted a fine meal in an interesting atmosphere and we certainly found it. The food was serious italian, fresh and delicious. The attention to service was very good. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it took a while for them to offer and deliver drinks. But, they were also very gracious when they simply asked us for approval to serve out daughter (she is 21) without asking her to fish out her ID. Back to service - I am very familiar with service expectations and I noticed our waiter (head waiter) correcting and explaining small things to the assistants.

Under new management, two brothers from southern Italy via a Cambridge Mass restaurant, are now running this restaurant. Hidden from public view within the Saugatuck Boat Club it automatically is at an immediate disadvantage for attracting clientele. The room is very nice, very quiet the night we were there (as we were the only ones present on a Thursday evening)with brother Antonio, as our very attentive waiter. The food is above average Italian and although no real creativity, was enjoyable. We will return once again as it is definitely worth a try.

The food was excellent: homemade pastas and interesting fish and meat entrees. Service was quite good. The dining room setting was good with tables apart making conversation easy. I would recommend The Boathouse to anyone wanting excellent food in an inviting environment

First time at the Boat House. My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly. My wife had the octopus and loved it and I had the lobster tail appetizer from the raw bar. Served perfectly chilled and with their homemade sauce it was delicious. For main courses we both had the Branzino and it may have been some of the best we have ever had. We will most definitely go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Lovely restaurant space. Too cold to eat outside, but it looks enticing. The pasta, in particular, was outstanding. Will definitely return. Our meat course was fine - but it was the one less-than-stellar part of our experience.

We went to the Boathouse under its new ownership. The food was mediocre. My husband's venison osso buco was dried out and inedible. My filet was okay but not great. I cannot reccomend going there as there are better choices in the area.
