Zula was great. Fun menu and all the food was delicious. Similar to A Tavola I have a bit of a hard time spending $15 on a relatively small pizza/flatbread but other than that it's reasonably priced. We got there soon after they opened on a Saturday and service started out great and but really dropped off once they got busy. Such that we ordered another round of wine for our second round of food and we had to remind our server about it and then it didn't arrive until we were done with our second round of food.

We have a gem in OTR a great place to come a share food with good friends and family the type of restaurant where reaching across the table and grabbing the last piece of amazing goat cheese or mushroom flatbread becomes a game. Bring the gang as sharing is the most fun, but don't leave without trying, the plancha mushrooms , lamb moussaka, Yellow fin tuna crudo, Roasted beets Napolen and flat breads....oh yes the mussels, I like the classic but the Spanish have a nice kick. Leave some room for dessert the panna cotta was my favorite.

  • I would not describe the noise
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 4/6/2013
I would not describe the noise as energetic, but that was my only choice - it was VERY LOUD. We had to wait for a long time after we ordered drinks before we saw our server again. The host stopped by and we told him we were waiting for our drinks. Then, after we ordered a few dishes and they were brought to the table, we did not see our server for at least 20 minutes. Someone - not our server - came to clear all our plates. The server never asked whether we wanted anything else until all the plates were cleared. We asked for the check. Very disappointed in the service.

We're delighted with another convenient option near Symphony Hall, and we wish you well. The food, however, is OK but not memorable. Sounded better (on menu) than the reality. The wine, however, was excellent, and all in all, we'll come back. But improving the food would be a definite draw. Thanks!

  • OTR Gem

    Dined on 4/5/2013
Zula is a splendid addition to the OTR restaurant scene. A pleasant alternative to the frenetic and over the top noisy atmosphere of some of the Vine St. Venues while still maintaining the perfect level of energy. Went there twice before writing this review to measure consistency . Food was wonderful both times with a high level of quality. Service was perfect with food coming out quickly and at the right temperature. Jamie was a great server with a good deal of élan.. This restaurant is a must visit for everyone and most especially welcome to symphony and theatre goers looking for a great meal.

i've been to several of the new otr restaurants lately and this one is top on my list of new faves. the prices were very reasonable. the food was great for sharing, tasted great, was prepared well, and the offerings were varied enough for all four of us. the place was way bigger than i thought it would be so the turnover was such that i didn't see anyone waiting. there was enough wait staff to cover the territory and except for our flatbread, which took a long time to arrive at our table, everything came out of the kitchen quickly. i will absolutely be going back.

Zula is definitely one of the hip spots to be in OTR. You definitely don't feel like your in Cincinnati! More like San Francisco or Chicago. Prior to arriving I had requested a window table and our request was granted. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful on the menu and we took his recommendations. Plancha Mushrooms which were superb along with the Yellow Fin Tuna Crudo and the wood-fired Flat bread with Thyme Roasted Tomatoes. My only regret was not having enough room to try any of their Mussel dishes which looked fabulous. I think next time we will try to sit at Z table (communal table)and you can sit there and watch your salads be made. Definitely my new favorite restaurant!!

This was my second time in for dinner and both times, my servers were terrible, not friendly and one time took away our food because It was supposed to go to a different table. Both times, it also took the servers 10-15 minutes To drop a wine list at our table. ... Strange for a wine bar! On a good note, The hostesses were very presentable and extremely nice. I would recommend sitting at the bar around the oven- the chef back there was actually nice and enthusiastic.

Food was well prepared with fresh ingredients. We shared everything starting with a pail of mussels and a loaf of artesan bread for sopping up the juice. We also shared a baby endive salad, surf and turf (sweetbreads and shrimp) and the walnut brownie dessert. Portions were more than adequate for sharing. Wine by the glass with a large selection to choose from. Service was inconsistent. Once our waiter took our order he was pretty much out of the picture. Different servers brought out each course. Two servers tried to deliver dishes we hadn't ordered and seemed puzzled as to where they belonged. We weren't offered clean plates with every course. All things considered, though, we plan to go back to try different things on the menu.

Had Risotto with what was supposed to be riblets. Was more Risotto than anything with hardly any riblet to be seen. Portions are small for options I ordered. Prices too high for the amount of food. Wasn't really that spectacular as far as flavor and presentation. Beet salad was good. Sat at the bar and waitress kept hanging around us to talk while we were trying to eat. She was obviously bored because the restaurant was not busy yet.

We were excited to try the mussels, as we get them most times we dine out. We ordered the mushroom ones. We were suprised that they weren't very full of flavor. They weren't bad, yet very unremarkable. They were bland and didn't have seasoning. A touch more garlic, salt and pepper would have helped greatly! The beers and wines are nice, especially the price points! The olive oil cake was very yummy. The lamb was great too. The art and design of the interior was very hip as well.

Zula is a very new restaurant in a new fast growing entertainment area. Overall it was good, but a few opening kinks need to be worked out. Confusion about where we were seated, Too many tables squeezed to close, Being Charged for 6 drinks from the table next to us. However, overall it was a success and will be better after it has been open a few months. The food was inventive. Zula bills itself as Mediterranean tapas. It would be more proper to call it modern tapas. I did not notice a particularly Mediterranean bent to the food. Started with excellent salads, then mussels from the mussel menu, ,flatbread and a crispy polenta with short meat inside. Food good price reasonable (when you don't pay for the next tables drinks).

I was at Zula last night and I had the best time. I was catching up with some friends and we spent a lot of time talking and the server was very accomodating to our slow moving pace. The wine menu was great with reasonable prices and a lot to choose from. The food was outstanding. We had the tuna crudo, beet salad (it was perfect!), mussels (about 10 varieties and they are a must), the egg plant flatbread (also a must), the special(sweet breads with shrimp and gnocci which was to die for) and the vanilla bean panacotta which was perfectly light. I enjoyed every single thing about our meal. The reastaurant itself was very inviting with great ambiance and it was decorated very nicely. I will def be going back here very soon.
