Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Z & Y Peking Duck offers a delightful mix of "authentic" Chinese dishes with their standout Peking Duck being a must-try. While the duck's "crispy skin" and "tender meat" are often praised, some diners suggest pre-ordering to ensure availability. "Service was excellent" and the atmosphere is "lovely," making it a popular choice for both small and large gatherings. However, reservations might not always be honored promptly, and some find it "pricey" for the experience.

Good food. Overpriced though for mediocre service and glass cups for tea is tacky

We preordered the duck as recommended. However, it the meat was dry (likely carved many hours ahead of time)

D’bomb! We were a large group seated downstairs and treated like royalty! The service was flawless. We had duck, dumplings, green beans, large prawns, pot stickers, eggplant, miso cod, Beijing chefs choice appetizers, and beef noodles. Of course the duck was the best. Everything was really excellent but I would skip the Beijing appetizer chefs choice and the pot stickers which were more like egg rolls. Those two didn’t hold a candle to the other dishes. The green beans are deadly delicious. The large prawns and miso cod were real standout dishes. We will be back - often!!

We were a group of 8 downstairs and we had two ducks and a bunch of other tasty things. Particularly enjoyed our server “Small Kyle” - he’s adorable!

had reservations at 7pm on a tuesday night for 4 people, went early to check in around 6:30pm, followed up around 7pm and the host (TERESA) already forgot who i was and my reservation time, she frantically scrolled on her ipad checking tables just to make up a lie and tell me to wait another 10 mins while i see her continuing to seat walk ins, i decide to finally ask again after waiting more than 10 mins. so at this point i confront her and ask why we are still not seated when i have a reservation and pre reserved their duck that i did not want to loose if it gets sold out. she tells me i am next and explains she has been sitting only parties of 2 which i dont believe. this was a day of cisco conference in downtown sf and there were just people everywhere. maybe poor planning from the start on their end if they can’t handle a reservation and walk in system we finally get seated at 7:30pm and order. i had to make sure the duck was still available. the other dishes all came out slowly and they even gave a chicken wing on the house (which every table seem to have gotten) food was overall ok - had better duck (imperial treasure in palo alto) egg fried rice and garlic snow pea were salty, sea bass was fishy, beef roll and beef stew was nothing special, sweet rice ball bumping did not specify it had black sesame filling overall experience was skued because of the poor service from the beginning another weird point is their bathroom on the top floor (don’t know why it’s hidden behind a curtain with awkward waiting room) would not go back but worth a try i guess, just prepare to not get seared at your reservation time and don’t even know if pre ordering a duck helps i can’t imagine how it is like on a weekend when the weekday was already so busy for them

Kinda mid, not going to lie! I've had way better peking duck from a cheap shop, the skin was very crispy but like the meat had 0 flavour. Almost like it was white washed...

I had been loyal customer of Chef Han's for many years at both Z&Y and SF Chili House. Z&Y made a recent change that ruined Chef Han's signature Peking duck. In 2023, Chef Han highlighted his restaurant's traditional Peking duck being carved into 108 precise slices by expert duck carvers. For years, I considered Chef Han's Peking duck to be the finest and most authentic. Today I was in disbelief to see the duck sliced into thick chunks. Despite the fact that their website still misleadingly displayed photos of expertly sliced authentic duck. The large chunks of skin and meat were cumbersome and unpleasant to eat. There is a reason Peking duck has been sliced in a precise way for centuries. Why change it? I wonder if they are cutting other corners in the 40 hour preparation that Chef Han proudly described in 2023. Chef Han, please let me know if you bring back the traditional duck carving. I will not be coming back for the thick cut duck.
