A word from D Bar San Diego
The D in D Bar stands for Drinks, Dining, and Dessert.

Drinks: We have an excellent wine, beer and cocktail menu that suits all price ranges and occasions. Not to toot our own horn (toot toot), but we even have a wine made just for us called Mr. Cupcake by Charles Smith, so fun! We also have an awesome Happy Hour called Nibbles and Sips with great food and drink specials (6 days a week from 3pm-6pm).

Dining: D Bar isn't based on one particular "type" of dining. As chefs, we pull from what we personally enjoy eating. Thus, our menu is based on our childhood favorites, inspiration from travels, and just simply things we like to eat!

Dessert: Our passion and background is pastry and that is why we have our very own dessert bar! It's kind of like when you go to a sushi bar, but instead of raw fish, we have delicious desserts being made right in front of you.

Valentine's Day was our third visit to D Bar, and we went for lunch. The quality of the food, from a simple salad to a glamorous and indulgent dessert. is reliably delicious and beautifully plated. The atmosphere is airy and spacious, with beautiful cool colors, and the service is helpful without hovering. This has become a favorite on our "will return to" list.

My family and I celebrated my Mom’s birthday at D Bar. Not only were we impressed by their food & desserts, but they gave my mom a candle on her cake and actually took the time to give my mom a birthday card signed by the staff, which was a very thoughtful touch!

I was at D Bar for lunch when it first opened and did not think much of it. So when Saturday I was looking to bring a party of 8 for dinner in the area I thought i would give it a try. To my surprise, it was much better than I was expecting. Everything we order was good and more than good. I order the short ribs and it was superb, I advise if you are going to order you either share it or be very hungry, either way it is wonderful. We also order the brussels sprouts for the table and they disappeared in seconds. Will keep this restaurant in my roster of restaurants to recommend.

Truly enjoyed myself. I set up reservations for a bday dinner for myself and my boyfriend. We were seated at a comfy corner booth and had an amazing waitress (can't recall her name). The food was amazing! The best part was the birthday celebration they put together for my boyfriend. All of the wait staff signed a personalized card and the dessert that came out was made for a king! He loved it. Will def be back to taste everything on the food, wine and dessert menu. :)

We were duped...so overrated. I put so much effort into my reservation and it was a disaster. We requested a birthday an Coupon that we provided. We got neither. D bar is really overrated. Frankly, It was terrible. A free meal wouldn'take us eat there again. D bar is bad.

Decided to try this place for Restaurant Week. The three course meal had so many options and everything we had was delicious! For starters, the brussel sprouts was my favorite (the fries and dates were good, too). For the entrée we ordered the short rib, ribeye and fish. The ribeye was the better beef dish. For dessert there were sooo many options. We opted for the cake and shake, crème brulee, pie spice souflee and d=mc2. Everything was delicious!!!! I now have a new favorite restaurant!

My first time here and I came during Restaurant Week. I personally liked the overall look of the place and how it had both a drink bar and dessert bar on each side. The stars of our meals were the pork "wings" appetizer and the desserts (chocolate molten lava cake and pie spice souffle). We also loved the beginning drink for the cocktail flight (Fresca Picante). Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable. I'd definitely love to come back for their happy hour and more desserts!

D Bar is a modern yet comfy place to dine with friends and a cute place for a date. If you sit at the bar, you will be able to watch the chefs prepare desserts which is a nice treat. The Crue fries were a generous portion and definitely enough to share. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the accompanying side dishes were equally as good. Choosing one dessert was difficult but the Cake and shake was scrumptious and came in a timely manner right after the main meal. Our server was friendly, prompt and attentive even as the restaurant started to become busy for the dinner rush. I would definitely recommend this neighborhood gem.

D Bar was a great spot. We sat at the dessert bar, which was super entertaining and helped with our selection of desserts. The atmosphere was super hip and cool, with raised ceilings, trendy lamps hanging from the ceiling, and cool sectioned off areas to sit. The brussels sprout appetizer with sirracha sauce was amazing!! All in all a great experience!

The wait staff were for the most part very friendly, however, the service was poor at best. Although there were very few people in the restaurant our food took a long time to hit the table. Once we got our food we really enjoyed it! The menu selection was varied and the food was great comfort food. The desserts were yummy.

I came here with a friend for Restaurant Week, and our meals were good but not mind blowing or anything. I didn't expect the service staff to be so...casual, but I guess were friendly enough. I had the ribeye that our host & server went on about, boasting the 12 oz. size & what an amazing deal it was. Once I cut away all the fat & inedible parts I'd say it was a 6-8 oz. steak-so call it what it is, please! Both our starters were really good, as was dessert. I'd come back maybe for the starters & happy hour, perhaps. Overall was a nice evening.

We eat here once or twice a week and never get tired of it. D Bar has exceptionally good food at reasonable pricing. If you care about your weight, the dressed Avo salad is absolutely the way to go. A perfect entree, light, beautiful, not soaked in dressing and you can add grilled organic chicken, lobster or shrimp. The sliders are addictive and the burger is absolutely decadent. Mary's half chicken is tender and moist, served with wonderful roasted seasonal veggies. The desserts are unlike any you will find in the city, gorgeous, imaginative and divine. The servers are all very good, personable without being annoying and careful not to interrupt conversations. Try D Bar. You won't be sorry!

A wonderful melody of flavors and a perfect portion size. Best croutons and the Caesar salad but a touch dry. We came to this restaurant upon the strong recommendation of colleagues. Half of the meal was great, the other half very disappointing. Chicken fried steak was rubbery and tasteless. Salad literally had no dressing. Waitress was very unfriendly from the beginning. We visit SD often and we are part of a very large annual meeting in the city, we will not be returning and will not recommend dBar to our colleagues.

Owner/Chef Keegan Gerhard is an accomplished pastry chef, and the desserts are whimsical and delicious, but the savory dishes were also done beautifully, with a fine touch for seasoning, dressing, and plating. The Crue Fries are glorious cheesy fries. Since the potatoes have a coating of flour, the waitress recommended having the sweet potato Crue Fries for someone who is allergic to wheat, and they were crispy with a lovely creamy sauce and cheddar. So delicious. The service was professional but friendly and even though this is a trendy spot, it welcoming and not snooty. A great addition to the Hillcrest dining scene.

We came here on a weeknight for a birthday celebration with 12 people. They were extremely accommodating and the service was excellent. We've been here on a weekend before and it's much busier but on a slower weeknight the servers had more time to spend with us for even better than usual service and we were able to enjoy our meal without feeling like we had to give back the table by a certain time. Everyone liked their food. Mine was the grilled salmon which was pretty good but it was really more of a salmon salad than salmon-on-a-plate, so it wasn't exactly what I expected but I still enjoyed it. We also had two children with us (ages 5 and 3) and they were very accommodating towards the kids although it's not normally a kid type of place.
