A word from Hunter's
Hunter's is a creative endeavor born of the belief that a seasonal cuisine takes advantage of the rich flavors around us that make our neighborhood and city unique. Chef Angelo Schifilliti, formerly Executive Chef at Landmarc Tribeca, focuses on perfecting an intimate menu in an even more intimate setting. This Brooklyn restaurant's driving force is the hunt for ingredients, tastes and ideas that transcend the ordinary dining experience. Hunter’s has been praised for both its focus on the local and healthy by Clean Plates “you’ll find house-made pastas, pot pies, sustainably-sourced meats and 100% local veggies to round out an affordably-priced, eclectic New American, Italian and French menu” and its creativity and commitment to sustainability by Zagat Blog, “The eatery prides themselves on dishing out game meat and forged ingredients.”

The Mussels in garlic miso butter was the best I've ever had in a long time. A must have for the appetizer. Also the trout was excellent. So were the truffel fries.

Food was very good and staff very friendly. Don't order the Blue Bottle Coffee, though. You'll be waiting 20 minutes for a cup that doesn't taste any better than a deli's.

  • Great evening for a party of 8
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

I went to Hunter's on a Saturday with a party of 8 for a birthday. My guy friend who was the birthday celebrant loved it. I was surprised to see that in the back of the restaurant there were much larger tables that could accommodate big parties. The cocktail list was comprised of drinks called Katniss Everdeen and Van Helsing. We had the chicken liver and bacon mousse to start which was very tasty. Good for a group of 4 people but they could have definitely provided more bread. BTW, this place does not give bread at the beginning of the meal. We also had the meats appetizer which was pretty standard. It came with mustard and grilled bread. For my entree I ordered the roast chicken which was excellent.

  • We recommend the cheese plate

We recommend the cheese plate and various salads. They were nicely prepared. The pork shoulder was good as were the burger and pastas we ordered. The cod was so-so as was the chicken. I believe that another fish was substituted for the cod- it did not resemble or taste like any cod I have ever seen or eaten. It was prepared well enough but I would be more comfortable knowing what fish it actually was. The chicken skin was not cooked enough- it was rubbery and should be removed and not eaten. As to desserts the fritters are good as was the cake. We dont recommend the fruit crisp. There was not sufficient topping. Finally it is bizarre that only 1 flavor of ice cream- and an odd one at that-was offered.

The foods are all very good, especially the special (fillet). Service was nice, everybody was friendly and helpful (though they missed some ordered, therefore 4 star). I would definitely go back.

I had dinner at Hunter's on a crowded Friday night. The only reason I would return is for the food, which was very good. It's an interesting menu, worth trying again. We had the grilled kale, sweet potato agnolotti, the ravioli. The wine was also very good, and most wines on the list are reasonably priced. The noise level was loud to deafening as the evening progressed and the decor, sparse and unattractive, looks cheap. Tables for two are too small, and everything seems to be the same color. Service was okay but not great.

The grilled kale salad is excellent, as were the meats. We loved the pork shoulder and the roasted chicken, but the burger was a bit undercooked. Save some space for sweets as the ricotta fritters are fabulous. All around it was a high quality meal that everyone enjoyed.

Excellent food from a limited menu. Pork shoulder was succulent, near perfect. Ambience was a little off-putting, though; it was LOUD. One of those places with wooden floors and brick walls where the noise bounces around energetically. Go there if you're hungry and want good food, but don't have too much to say.

Roast chicken entree was tasty although it was appeared more Cornish game hen than standard chicken. The pureed squash was terrific, but the brussel sprouts were unusually bitter. A pleasant restaurant despite the slow and occasionally inattentive service.

Had a Great experience at Hunter's! The restaurant seemed busy, so the service was a little slow, but the server's personality made it obvious we weren't being ignored. When the food arrived. Everything tasted great!!! I had wine, but am excited to taste the cocktails next time I'm in (and there will be a next time).

This is a promising place with a seemingly wonderful menu. While the food was good, it was was just that - good. Definitely underwhelming when compared with it's local The service was SO. SLOW. On a Sunday evening. With only half of the tables filled. I was ready to jump out of my chair by the end of the meal. The waitstaff was friendly, but... Seemed like they were all high or something. The busgirl (?) took 10-15 minutes after each course to bus our table. And asked us if we were ready for dessert, even though we had been waiting for our main courses for 35-40 minutes. It was a little ridiculous. Net/net... There are many other solid choices in the neighborhood. I won't be returning.
