I wish my neighborhood - alright let's be generous - every neighborhood could be blessed with options like 51 Lincoln. I've been here numerous times - date night with the wife, family dinner with kids, taking (95 y.o.) Mom out for a special occasion (ask to sit in the wine-cellar for a quiet space) - and everyone has always been delighted. The food is reliably good and creative. By which I do not mean tortured as in so many "try-hard" kitchens these days. Service is correct and friendly. Neither snobby nor obsequious. Drinks are enjoyable. I haven't had to go to the bar and teach them how to make my drink - which happens, or at least should happen - in too many places. I travel 30 minutes to get to this place. Repeatedly.

We have been here many times but they have now changed a bit. The menu was limited and the prices were high for the amount of food received (particularly the salmon). The lemon cream dessert was awful! We won't be back. Cocktail was good.

We have been frequent diners in the past. The new menu needs much to be desired. The entree portions are very small considering the price. We both ordered the pork tenderloin - not enough sauce, three small pieces and just a little bit of spaetzle. All of this for $25, really! We got the "almost lemon cream pie" for dessert. A soupy lemon concoction that was placed inside a lemon. It was so bitter. Not sure if all of the pith had been removed. It tasted like it came from a grocery store's freezer section, expect I think the grocery store version would have tasted better and had a better texture. Service also left something to be desired. Not polished. We will not be returning.

I donated to NPR and received a gift certificate to 51 Lincoln. I probably would not have gone otherwise. Overall, it was amazing. Reservations had to made in advance. The menu was set up in courses, and I highly recommend you order the 4 course flat-rate option rather than a la carte. The sizes were tapas sizes, but with 4 courses, I did not leave hungry. The menu was very eclectic, and the quality of ingredients impeccable. Prices were pretty high, so it's probably a good place for a special occasion. Despite the price, I would deem it a worthy expense. Also, take the option for espresso with dessert, it was delicious.

We've been to 51 Lincoln several times, and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance. So I was a little concerned when I learned that the menu had been revised to include more seasonal and locally grown foods - no more watermelon steak in winter, sadly. However, after a starter of rutabaga grapefruit salad, and mushroom risotto as a main course, I was gratified to find our meal excellent as usual. I'll just have to wait till August for the watermelon steak.

My husband and I decided to try the four course tasting menu after reading an article about Chef Fournier and his goal of being true to the food, the season and the menu as it is. Every course was delicious and well thought out with layers of flavor abounding. The courses were spaced out enough to allow you to savor bites and keep going all the way through desert. Highly recommend the tasting menu for foodies or anyone who appreciates eating something that tastes good. Wine pairing available as well.

Been to 51 many times. Old menu easy to get bored with as never changed. Now trying new concept that didn't work for us. Emphasis on 4 course meal with small portions. We don't eat dessert and went a la carte. Portions small and not interesting. Very limited # of choices. None of the 4-5 entrees sounded appealing so went with salad and small plate. Just didn't work for us. Tables on top of each other. Service do fast you can only assume they want you in and out. Disappointing. My wife did like the chicken livers but all else weak. Wine list pretentious. Little under $50-60 and most more.

I have been to 51 Lincoln many times. I went this time planning on having my usual appetizer of polenta fries and of course their extraordinary dish of Bolognese. I was surprised that not only did they change their menu, my favorites were gone. Although the food was excellent, I found the portions small and the prices a little high for each offering. I was overall very disappointed with the changes, and don't think I will be returning.

We got there early and found a seat at the bar for a cocktail and an app. There was a little confusion as they thought we wanted to eat there so we got seated a few minutes after our reservation time. They did a great job in getting us seated after the mixup at the bar. Bartender was very knowlegable about the menu and offered some great cocktail choices. Service was excellent at the bar and at our table. Everything was unrushed, but we never had to wait for a drink or for someone to answer a guestion. Best dining experience outside of Boston in a loong time. We'll be back again as often as we can!

I took friends there for the first time and was highly disappointed in the new menu. They seem to be pushing their price fix menu at quite a bit more money. if you don't order that way the choices are very limited and the portions very small. you are paying the price for not ordering the restaurants way. In addition one person in our party was limited to one entrée choice which he didn't really want because the other 3 choices he didn't eat. I ordered onion soup for $11 and it was a rip off!.I went to the restaurant that night expecting to order one of his signature dishes which is no longer offered. the waitress was totally disorganized and 2 meals came well after the other 4. If it isn't broken why did you fix it?

Chef Fournier is changing the focus of 51 Lincoln a bit--and the new menu is great. It was my birthday so we had the tasting menu and splurged on the accompanying wine pairing. The best thing about it was how flexible it was--so if you wanted two from the first category and nothing from the second, that was fine. And you can substitute cheese for any of the dessert options. The scallop appetizer was perfectly seared; the pork was tender and moist. The carpaccio was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Really spectactular. Can't wait to go back.

I must admit that I wasn't overwhelmed by the quality of the food. I thought the duck was very good but the tomato based seafood dish was not done to our satisfaction. The canned whole tomatoes in this dish were not prepared with any imagination, we felt and they sat there on the plat like blobs. When we complained, the chef graciously offered to remove the charge for the dish from our bill. He added that most of the other diners raved about the dish that we disliked. Our waitress was superbly professional and soliciotous; we really thought she was terrific. And she recommended a bottle of wine that was perfect.

  • Every Bit as Good As I Expected

I was concerned about the recent controversy and some recent negative posts, but found 51 Lincoln as good as ever. We've been going there 4-5 times per year for many years (it's a bit of a splurge for us, not an everyday place), and have always found the food and service to be the highest quality. Relaxed, neighborhood vibe, crazy good food, and yes - it's a little expensive - but worth it. Still some very reasonable choices on the wine list, I should note. The new menu is much smaller, with many of the old favorites set aside for the winter season, but everything we had was wonderful. The restaurant had a few open tables during the dinner rush - which is very rare for 51 Lincoln - but I suspect that won't be the case for long.

5i Lincoln was a neighborhood gem. Popular and always busy. It offered snack food at the bar which was fun and lots of casual and more serious entrees in the diningroom which are now all gone. The new 4 course tasting menu is too serious. My husband and I each had the 4 courses and ordered different items so we could taste 8 different options. Of the 8, I would only recomment the duck entree. The other choices were uninspiring and nothing to rave about. They are clearly trying hard but missing the mark. We will not go back or recommend the new menu to our friends.

The gentleman that waited on us was poor. Not knowledgeable about the food on the menu, no personality, gave the worst pour on the wines that we have ever gotten. Literally not even 1/4 of a glass. When he brought me a chardonnay to try and I said that I liked it he poured into the trial glass which was much smaller than the glasses that they served in for everyone else.

  • The New Menu plus or minus??
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005VIP
    Dined on 3/1/2014
51 Lincoln has just initiated a fixed price four course tasting menu. Be aware: the courses are small dishes. My partner had the seared scallop with the daikon that was delicious but only one scallop. The shrimp bisque was bland. For the second course I enjoyed the nori fettuccine. Main course: my partner had the brined black bass- a small piece; the duck-two breast pieces with duck roulade and tiny carrots-was excellent but about1/2 the portion compared to the old menu). Chocolate panna cotta for dessert was excellent. Bottom line: the new menu is about 25% more expensive than the old menu, service and atmosphere are excellent, generally the food is outstanding, and if you don't mind spending a bit more for a bit less, then go for it.

My husband and I were treated to an evening of absolute pampering at 51 lincoln on the occasion of our 26th wedding anniversary. The ambiance was vibrant and energetic yet very romantic. We enjoyed a quiet slow paced dinner. We never felt rushed or pushed out. This is a rarity because we do not drink and some restaurants are turned off by that. We were very happy to see they had a non alcoholic beer available. The food was exceptionally prepared and beautiful to look at. The service was exceptional. Was there for Valentine's dinner, which included a special menu for the occasion. Ridiculously tiny portions for the price. One dumpling $7. About an ounce of monk fish, sprinkled with some chewy lobster and a sauce that did little to enhance the meal: $19. A little piece of custard the diameter of a quarter and one strawberry: $10. Left an extremely generous cash tip for the service we received, and received no Thank You from out waitress. My credentials? For many years I was one position below the sous chef, a CIA Graduate, at Rumson, New Jersey's Fromagerie Restaurant; at the time the finest French restaurant in all of affluent Monmouth County. Wine was decent. Other than that, not impressed, at all.

We were excited to try 51 Lincoln as the menu looked good and the reviews were favorable. We arrived for our 8:45 reservation and were seated at 9:10, we sat at the bar while we waited. The bar was busy but comfortable and the bartender was quick to take our order. The decor was interesting and inviting and our server arrived promptly to greet us. Our appetizers, Shrimp with safron risotto and artichoke fennel dip, were good although quite salty. Then our entrees arrived, rigatoni bolognese, and crispy fish tacos. The pasta would have been good if it hadn't been so over salted, the fish taco's were unimpressive. Overall, we were disappointed with our Saturday night out.

When I arrived on Saturday, the bar was packed with folks watching the basketball game. Their energy was awesome (if perhaps a bit too noisy at times) but even when they left, the two friendly guys behind the bar kept the energy going. Their cocktails are superb and their service is genuine. We sat at a table for dinner and everything was great, but my favorite was the gnocchi. This is such a "guilty pleasure" dish for me because it's always so heavy, but the way it was prepared at 51 was light, fresh and appealing. The filling was flavorful, the shell had a fantastic texture. Final note on the decor: I love the artwork always on display, but it would look nicer if more was framed.

It was a hopping Sat PM but was SO loud. The staff was very friendly and accommodating but the service was SLOW. Normally I appreciate being left alone to look at the menu and enjoy a drink before ordering, but we were seated for nearly an hour before we placed even the salad order. We were there 3 hours total which is way too long...and thus we were the last ones there (probably not ideal for the waitstaff who were keen to wrap up...it was after 11.) We enjoyed the food but would think twice abut returning for a full-on meal.

The First order was interesting and the second order wasn't seared enough and it Was a plate of jelly. There was artwork on the wall that the waitress informed us was painted by the owner. When we first started going to this restaurant several years ago, the food was great and it was a quiet place to take family and enjoy a good meal because there were fewer tables. Now there is still good food, but I was unable to hear the waiter several times and my dining companions repeatedly because they have stuffed the dining room with double the number tables. I will not return to 51 Lincoln. They favor more tables (and $?) over nice ambiance that would make it a wonderful dining experience.

The bar chairs were padded which was delightful and we shared a Caesar salad which was tasty but small, the fish taco for $7 each were tasty, the watermelon brick - delicious and a good cheese cake dessert . Billy was attentive at the bar and we really had a very pleasant time. I'll go back
