A word from La Sen Bistro
La Sen Bistro is an offshoot of Berkeley's La Rose Bistro. After many years of serving to loyal customers of theater go-ers and the nearby UC Berkeley patrons, La Rose Bistro transplanted itself to downtown Concord to become La Sen Bistro.

With the same vision of serving great food, you will enjoy the classic California-French samples of duck confit, salmon in saffron sauce, lamb racks, and escargot - just to name a few. Our great food was recognized by the Michelin Guide in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 as well as the Zagat survey. Come join us at La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of California-French cuisine.

Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!

We have dined here before and always had a good meal. We were seated immediately and our appetizer and drinks came promptly. We then waited 45 min for our entrees and one had to be sent back because it was only tepid. During that time we had no one refill our water glasses or tell us when our food would arrive. I am not certain we will return.

Service was off. It took a lot to get our staff person's attention. Most of the good was good but my husband's medium rare prime rib was way too thin and overdone. I'd give it another chance because the rest of the meal was good.

Entering the restaurant, mentioned we had a reservation, the waiter seems no response and just let us choose whatever table we like, it seems they don't reserve any table for customer made a reservation. All the nice table were occupied, we had to sit a big table at the rear. And also no recommendation, due to only one waiter for service, lack of service. We asked for help for picture taking, one woman worked behind the bar, she looked like the owner, we waived to her for help, she told the waiter to take picture for us, and never smiled.

La Sen is consistently friendly, serves delicious food, and now provides attentive, prompt service. My group of seven was very happy with all the evening's specials (appetizer, soup, main course), the wine list, the bread... Everything! We love this restaurant.

A great place to enjoy a special meal. The food was sophisticated and delicious, however didn't earn 5 stars with me because the boeuf berganon was over salted. We were on a tight schedule and they did a great job getting our graduate out on time, however once he had left service crawled to a standstill. The waiter did an otherwise excellent job. We plan to return and try some of the other very yummy sounding dishes.

Good food. Nice ambience. The service was friendly, but not very sophisticated. For example, the dessert menus were brought to our table before my wife had finished her meal and we had to ask for bread instead of it being offered or brought to us while we were deciding on our meal. We will be back because of the food and ambience.

We want to local and run into SF all the time, however, by in large this meal was very inconsistent. Although the wait staff was very nice, and the fact that this is a small restaurant, they were not in sync. They seem to spend a lot of time in front of machines at the bar typing a lot. Plates were not pick up, almost an after thought as they were bringing the next dish. Food: the Caesar salad had a nice anchovy taste but thick bottled dressing. The French onion soup had way too much bread, and very light taste...hardly tasted the onion The entres however, DID NOT disappoint. Stake and chops were wonderfully prepared. A 630 reservation on the summer requires asking for a table toward the rear. Too much sun pouring in and it was very hot.

This is our third time back to the restaurant within two months because we just love the food. Their Caesar Salad always leaves us wanting more. The Duck Breast, Duck Confit, lamb chops, and filet mignon were all very moist and tender. The wait staff was very helpful in both wine and food suggestions. The ambiance is very warm with a European feel. We could talk at length with our guests and never felt rushed to leave. I can hardly wait to go back again.

After sharing a pleasant appetizer of Calamari, we both had the excellent Beef Bourguignon -- tender meat, savory sauce and mixed vegetables not overcooked. Excellent hard-crust sour dough bread served with a cilantro spread (butter on request). This smallish restaurant provides an intimate setting with low noise level, making conversation effortless. Attentive service, pleasant waitstaff. Reasonable prices. Foodies won't be disappointed.

It was our first dinner here on the way to the concert in Concord Pavilion, and we'll come when in this area again. Bread is excellent with cilantro spread, Cesar salad was very good, one crab cake (appetizer came with a salad) was enough for my main dish; tomato bisque was more like a carrot soup, and still delicious. Service was very friendly without overpowering. Well decorated place was full by 6 pm, so we were lucky to have an OpenTable reservation.

I bought a Travelzoo Voucher and I was very happy that I did. This was a great place!!! The service was outstanding. The host (Sam) was very nice and very happy to be there. The food was also very good! We also very much enjoyed the bread dip! We live in San Jose so it was a bit of a drive for us. We wish this place was a little closer to us! Great vibe, Great place! Highly recommend.

The food was excellent! I would dine here again. However, I found the service disorganized. We had to wait for a table, went to the bar area and we were ignored. We had brought a bottle of wine, and could not get it opened until we were seated at our table. If you order the French Onion Soup, you will need to wait a while before it is served, so order salad first if you are really hungry. I think this restaurant needs a buss person to help out.

The food at La Sen Bistro never disappoints. I had the scallops along with the mushroom soup and both were outstanding. It's one of the few restaurants around where the noise level is low enough that we don't have to worry about hearing each other over dinner.

This was my 6th time @ La Sen & was I was really looking forward to ordering their signature Beef Bourguignon. However, when the waiter, who was quite pleasant, brought the dish to our table, I was somewhat disappointed. In the past, the restaurant has always served generous portions of this delightful dish, but not this time. There were only 5 bite-size pieces of beef & a couple of veggies. I was quite surprised, especially since the dish is around $20. I actually thought about bringing it to the owners attention, but instead decided to write this review.

My husband and I have been there for dinner two times and both times we were totally satisfied with the food and decor of the place. The plates were artfully presented and the steaks and duck were cooked perfectly medium rare. The Caesar Salad was one of the best we have tasted. We were able to converse with our guests easily and think we will bring friends here often. The wait staff was efficient and friendly.

We have been to La Sen several times before and absolutely loved it. We took two older friends here for lunch on a Monday, which their web site says starts at 11. Our reservation was for 11:30 but our friends got there at 11 and the door was just being unlocked. We went in at 11:30 and it went downhill from there. The owner was not only being a chef he was also being a waiter. It took *forever* to get our meals and my husband had to go move our car since it was parked in a one hour zone. It took us nearly an hour just to get our soup!!! The excuse was "Monday is slow." A shame, really, especially since there was a woman there who could surely have been more helpful. If it were our first time there, we would never go back.

I'm a bit of a food snob and very hard to please, so was easantly surprised to find a menu where I could have chosen anything on the list. We had crab cake salad (perfect -- especially the dressing on the greens); Salad with Apple and Roquefort again with great dressing; scallops cooked to perfection; lamb chops which were just right and very juicy with lovely sauce; and creme brûlée which was almost as good as my own.

We had a table of 6 dear friends celebrating a rare time together. The table was set beautifully for us. Seafood dishes all around, the specials and menu choices brought mussels, shrimp, scallops and salmon to the table, prefaced by delicious mushroom soup and haricot vert salad. Desserts were profiterole and pot au chocolat. Everything was perfect. The restaurant is small and can be quite boisterous, but we hit it on a quieter Saturday night and our conversations were the loudest in the restaurant - no competition. Service was great. It helps to talk to the maitre d' before arrival so the wait staff have your requests in mind.

I "lunch" once a month with our neighborhood ladies, and I've been hoping to try La Sen Bistro for a while now! I was very happy to find them on Open Table, and 6 of us had a wonderful lunch. We were glad we did! I would have given them a 4 or a 5 (or a 10) if the review was based on the food alone, as everyone raved about the food. I do hope to go back for dinner, and appetizers, soon!

My business lunch at La Sen Bistro was outstanding! The restaurant decor was nice and well-suited to a business lunch and/or a date with one's significant other. The menu offered a wonderful selection of entrees at reasonable prices but with exceptional quality and what flavor! (Don't miss the French onion soup; it's divine!) The only minor improvement would be a slightly faster service; however, the food was worth the wait!

It's been a while since I was here for lunch, but I thought I remember it to be good. We had a reservation, but still had to wait 15min to be seated. Even then it took a few minutes to get table ready. The staff apologized from the start, but we weren't offered any water while waiting and we didn't even notice they had a bar until we were there quite a while and then we just waited for our table. They didn't tell us either about the bar. Pretty disappointing considering how small it is.I had crab cakes and didn't find anything special about them. 3 others said they liked their dinner, filet mignon, pork chops and other friend liked her crab cakes. Not sure I'd go back.
