It's always so wonderful to find a venue that is striving to bring a relatively unknown aspect of dining to the fore, and does it in a manner that that would be stellar for any type of cuisine. Too often, restauranteurs feel that just being different is sufficient. The concepts and execution by the kitchen really shine. The space is truly charming and amazingly comfortable. The only hitch we saw was due to the obviously new waitstaff; with more front-of-house attention, the experience would have been great across the board. The food is expertly prepared and presented. Small touches were great; like combining "tasting plates" (aka- tapas) for all members of the table onto a beautifully presented board. Great wine list, as well.

We had a wonderful dining experience. Our waiter Richard was excellent and gave us great recommendations. My husband had the halibut in parchment paper. It had a fermented black bean topping and mushrooms along with fresh matchstick veggies. I had the almond crusted sea bass in a delicious oyster sauce broth. Both dishes were so yummy and very healthy. Then came dessert. We had tempura style bananas with a homemade caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. They also make a hot fudge sauce that we got on the side. Omg. It was soooo good. The owner was so nice and attentive. The entire wait staff were also on top of things. I forgot to mention the bring out fried wontons with this crazy ginger sauce that was terrific. All in all a great dinner

  • Lucia - a great new option in HBG

Lucia is a great new option in Healdsburg. The food was very good, even on a busy night. I thought the portioning on the veal sweetbreads was a bit small; basically two bites. The FEIJOADA COMPLETA, a Brazillian stew of beef, pork, sausage and black beans was outstanding. I thought the price for dinner was reasonable, but, as a local with my own wine cellar, I resented the $15 per bottle corkage. Hopefully the restaurant will follow the lead of other local restaurants on that score.

Cafe Lucia will be a wonderful outdoor dining for the spring and summer months in Healdsburg. This meal was my second time at Cafe Lucia, this time my friend and I tried more of the tasting plates which was wonderful. The blood sausages were as we remembered when we visited Portugal. We both had the soup offering (another favorite dish we had in Portugal), it was creamy and very tasty. We opt'd this time to have a starter, rather than an entree. I had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked, succulent but firm to the tooth.

I have been wanting to try this place out since the review that Jeff Cox did. We went on a quite Tuesday evening. There appears to be great outdoor seating which would be perfect for warmer weather. We basically told out server it was our first time, and we want to dine on several starters that way we could taste a few different items, and we told her we would leave the selections up to her. We loved it all! Blood sausage & cheese plate (the sausage was crispy, yum!!!) Beet salad (w/ deep fried goat cheese ball) more cheese please! Scallops (Whatever the scallops rested upon was SO, SO good!) Mussels (broth was perfect to soak up the toasted bread that came with it) We cant wait to go again! Very nice atmosphere, too.

Our second time dining here. Brought some friends from NYC. Started with tasting plates with seven items - unusual and delicious. For entrees, our group had the feijoada, fisherman's stew, pork tenderloin, and swordfish. Everything was excellent. This is a hidden gem that should do very well in Healdsburg once word gets around.

  • Our second visit to Cafe Lucia
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005
    Dined on 2/9/2013
Our second visit to Cafe Lucia was on a Saturday night, 6:30. It was packed and quite noisy. Noise is not an issue for everyone, but it is for me. I like to be able to talk with my wife and friends without shouting; with noise-escalation, this often becomes impossible. But the problem is hardly unique to Lucia. Food, in brief: Nothing was bad; everything was tasty. In general, I was more impressed with the appetizers than the main dishes. The scallops, in particular, were very delicious. We'd previously dined at Lucia on a Tuesday evening, 8:30, less crowded, less frenetic; every dish seemed to be prepared with special care. This time, on a busy Saturday, the main courses did not seem quite as special.

This little gem did not disappoint. From the Caldo Verde soup to the Bacalhau no Forno and Arroz a Valenciana and ending with the trio sampler of desserts ~ all dishes were prepared in a traditional Portuguese manner with a bit of a contemporary twist. Lovely! They also have an excellent wine list. The fado music playing in the background was neither overwhelming nor a whisper...just enough for one to imagine you've taken a trip outside the US without needing a passport. Our SF party of 5 left with tummies full and with plans to return very soon.

I've visited Portugal so i was very excited about having a meal at Cafe Lucia. I had the tasting plates as my first course and found them delicious, the tripe was tender and flavorful, the octopus was tasty as well. To round out the 3, I had the sardines and they paired well with the accompanying toasts. The piri piri almonds were addicting! I ordered the bacalhau and the fish was tender and had the texture of crab, potatoes were perfect but the dish was uneven, it was dry in some parts and moist in others. I will return to have more of the tasting plates and perhaps try the fisherman's stew. The interior is gorgeous and will be a very inviting venue in the spring and summer months.

I think we hit Cafe Lucia on a busy night, when a lot of people arrived around the same time. Because of that, the service was slow, but always friendly. The real joy of this place is the food. The Portuguese-based menu provides some real treats. The grilled sardines and the mussels were prefectly sized and prepared starters. Everyone at our table stuck with appetizer sized mains, so I can't speak to the larger dishes. The Brazilian dish with black beans, pulled pork and sausage was very tasty. As we left, we agreed that this would be a do-over for us. Nice menu, nice people, and really delicious food.

I ate at Cafe Lucia twice last week, a business lunch Friday then Dinner Sunday. Both times I was surprised and amazed at the food. The Pulled pork sandwich at lunch was amazingly good. Delicious tangy sauce on nicely shredded pork and a great roll. For dinner three of us tried different main courses. My Feijoada Completa, a beef, pork and blackbean stew was amazing. I have never had such a flavorful, layered dish. The seared lamb was the most tender, tasty lamb I have had, and I often do not like lamb! The fisherman's stew, was a beautiful mix of shellfish fish in a delicious base.We shared the caramel and chocolate dessert trios, great. Drove by today and all three of us just said yum as we passed by.

The evening just didn't get off to a good start when we stood at the entrance for several long minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence (they were dealing with an apparent mix-up in a reservation and were a bit flustered by this). While we waited, we noticed a whole-fish dish being served to several tables. It looked great, and after perusing the menu and being told of the specials (in a rather perfunctory manner), we ordered one of these, as well as another entree and an appetizer trio. About half-way through the appetizer (the baby octopus was mushy, and the beans were tasteless), our entrees arrived. Unfortunately, not what we ordered, and now they were out of the whole fish! Desert, when the correct one was delivered, was ex

Cafe Lucia was OK. Maybe we didn't order the right things, but both of us found the food tasty but nothing very special. Some of the small plates were pretty expensive for the price. Service was very good and attentive. For late in the evening, the inside lighting was a bit bright...made it feel more like a diner than fine dining. Would I go back? Probably not.

I took a friend to lunch at Café Lucia because we both love LaSalette in Sonoma. We found the food, basically the same menu as that of LaSalette, to be of equally good quality and and the servers very friendly. Once people find the slightly hidden location, I think it will do well, especially in summer. Definitely not a typical California/Americano menu, so it will draw those who have broader food and wine interests.

Looked forward to a new dining experience in our foodie town. Ordered two appetizers, soup, special entree, and two desserts. The chicken in the soup was tough and stringy. The sweetbreads in one appetizer we over cooked and tough. The cod cake appetizer was dry. The wild boar "stew" was not a stew, but tough dry meat, served with Brussels sprouts and cut up fingerling potatoes. Every item was over salted which I pointed out to the owner and was told it was the Portuguese way of cooking. The dessert was excellent!
