The steak tartare and the pasta appetizer were flawless, and the flat iron steak and duck confit were delicious but not overly dramatic or saucy--the true fresh flavors came through. The service was excellent--friendly, non-intrusive, and paced perfectly. Never felt rushed or abandoned. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I'm from Portland, and we have fabulous restaurants as well, but Zoe is a cut above.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Romantic DinnerMy girlfriend and I visited Seattle last weekend and stayed near Capitol Hill. We found Restaurant Zoe on Yelp and decided to give it a try after looking at the menu and reading good reviews. We were not disappointed! RZ was a very memorable experience, and we will definitely be going back next time we are in Seattle.
The service at RZ was simply top notch!
My girlfriend's favorite was the wild boar bolognese with pappardelle. We also had the steak tartare as a small plate (perfectly balanced), and shared the duck leg confit (rich and tender). Both were outstanding! We enjoyed our meal with a bottle of '09 Rosso di Montalcino, and had orange creme brulee for dessert. All the appetizers were fantastic but the most memorable was the gnudi. Flavorful; melts in your mouth dish. I believe we had at least 3 plates of this wonderful dish. The duck and the flat iron steak was also outstanding. The chocolate Cree brûlée was the most memorable although we felt you could not go wrong with any of the desserts we ordered. We had a bottle of Chateau Latour de Bressan which is a great value for a young Margaux. Depending on where I attacked the plate I got a different yet complementary flavor that was clearly extremely well designed. I highly recommend the tasting menu served only on certain days.
I must add however, since the 5 savory courses were so wonderful I had very high expectations, and it fell short. Don't get me wrong that dessert was good, very good in fact. But not of the same caliber as the preceding dishes. It was clearly made by a different chef. The dessert was more common and somewhat monotone. It's always a treat. The service is generally good but on this particular occasion drink orders took ages. The end results were delicious but it was a little annoying. The food service was prompt and did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and the pace of meal allowed me to enjoy my food and not feel rushed. Our waitress was also very friendly and knew what she was talking about when it came to the menu. One person in the group didnt eat meat and the calamari was stuffed with sausage (to be fair they list the name of the sausage but none of us foodies knew that was sausage cause it wasnt called out in the menu). The server took that into account and gave us the ghnocci app for free (which was soooo good). We used to enjoyWe love ZOE! We used to enjoy the adventure of the former, downtown location, but the neighborhood did get scary toward the end of their tenure there. When they first opened in the present location, the food was very rich, and they had changed many of their standbys that we had come to love. Recently, however, they've added back some great salads and are bringing back our favorites (including the seared foie gras.)
