  • "We were seated at a sexy corner table their bar-lounge section. It was quiet and intimate. We went early, so we were alone in that section - wonderful. The specials included an arugula salad and fourteen oz NY steak. We both ordered that. The meat was an excellent cut cooked exactly to our specification with a perfectly charred crust and pink inside. Best steak in recent memory.. It was accompanied by mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, both imaginatively flavored. My wife opted for roasted potatoes and string beans, also perfectly cooked. Overall, it was a wonderful,, relaxed meal with excellent service and memorable food. I have been there many times and will go back again."

  • "I have been going to this restaurant for over 40 years. It was called Bully Boy's Chop house back then. The owners then were a father and son team and it was outstanding. Food, ambiance, service and all things necessary in a family run restaurant. Peter Kelly has re-established all those memories when he took over and gave it the name "Restaurant X and the Bully Boy Bar". The food could not have been better. I booked through Open Table and put in the "notes" area that it was our anniversary and my wife's birthday and then forgot about it. Desert came out with Candles, Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary written on the plate. Restaurant X is always the best."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary. We were seated at an intimate table for two; candlelight ambiance, view of the pond. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. She went out of her way to ask the chef questions about a dish we were uncertain about. I had the striped bass special and my husband had the cod menu item. They were fabulous. The appetizers and desserts were very good and the staff surprised us with a brown sugar custard with strawberries and two candles and written in chocolate was Happy Anniversary. They came and congratulated us; this was all unexpected and a very nice touch. We will definitely go back and visit again."

The food was simply superb, I particularly enjoyed the sweetbreads while one of our friends had one of her favorites, Beef Wellington. Also well enjoyed was the bass. The service was quite friendly, if perhaps a bit quick (probably owing the quiet night). The very good wine list had some excellent values."

  • "Not everyone knows about Peter Kelly. Those who know, know about Xaviers or X2O. But the best service and ambiance is at Restaurant X. Even the valet parkers are nice as pie. It doesn't have the Hudson River view or the lovely areas to walk off your meal. But the bar is gorgeous, the food is great and you will return. Salmon tartare was the only thing standing in the way of a 5-star rating for me. I've been there a few times & will continue to return."

  • "We had not eaten at Restaurant X in a few years, so we were really looking forward to it. We had always been impressed by the cuisine and atmosphere and the Restaurant Week pricing couldn't be beat. The food was good, but wasn't anything to rave about. I ordered my sirloin rare, but it was pink in the center with cooked edges, which to me barely qualifies as medium rare. I mentioned it to the waitress, she offered to bring something else, but I didn't want a fuss. In a restaurant of that class, I would have expected a manage to stop by. The desserts, which I remembered as decadent, were run of the mill. We ordered the crème brulee and panna cotta. The entire experience was nice, but nothing extraordinary"

  • "How nice to have an evening with friends at a restaurant like this that was superb. We were sitted upon arrival. The valet parking is a great convenience. The atmosphere is like walking into a friends home for dinner. Very cozy and warm. The smell of the fresh flowers was so pleasant. It was restaurant week and the menu was full of wonderful choices. Every detail at Restaurant X was given thought. The little vase of fresh cut flowers on our table. The impeccable wait staff very accommodating and cordial. It was one of the best dining experiences in Rockland County. I will bring my friends from the city here. Anyone would love this!"

  • "Party of 4 went for Restaurant Week. Appetizers were good however one party ate salmon tartare, at the end of dinner got ill & had to go home. Up all night experiencing stomach symptoms, etc. 3 orders of cod. One sent back due to being dry. All thought it was just okay. Roasted sirloin was good, perhaps a 3rd slice of meat might have been added. Desserts tasted good. We were disappointed in general. 3/22/14. Love to hear if anyone else had same symptoms."

This time we were in the larger room and it completely changes the dynamic of the experience from intimate and special to just ordinary. The food and service were, as always, exceptional. In future visits, of which there will be many, I will be sure to ask for the "small" room."

  • "From the appetizer to the heated roll, desert and coffee, lunch was beautifully presented, had outstanding flavors, and all prepared to perfection. Even the coffee was delicious. I was too full for desert. The waiter suggested dark chocolate sorbet. Served 2 scoops and a cookie, I ate it all. I had steamed dumplings filled with shrimp and crab in a light mango sauce for appetizer; main dish was sliced sirloin (rare as I ordered) with 2 sauces (can't remained names), mashed potatoes & haricot string beans; and the best coffee around. The service was wonderful. I love the outfit that the waiters and assists wore. I felt like a princess."

The selection, preparation, base ingredients, presentation, service and thoughtful small touches set this restaurant apart from so many others. The wine selection has something for everyone at a wide range of price levels. We came for a late lunch, 2 friends meeting midway from our NJ and Dutchess Co. homes. We spent 4.5 hours at a sunny corner table (per request) and could not have asked for a better, more generous or more delicious experience. Huzzahs all around."

  • "We have been to Peter Kelly's other restaurant (x2o) . We had a great experience there with friends last March 2013, so we thought we'll try his other venue and check it out. Restaurant X is a one story home converted into a lovely, quaint and classy fine dining place with a rustic feel. We brought a couple of our friends, and we purposely ordered different appetizers and entrees so we can share, compare and appreciate. Overall, one word.....sensational ! And yes, we recommend it highly and definitely come back. it would have been perfect if we got to meet Peter Kelly himself."

  • "Going for lunch to Restaurant X & Bully Boy Bar is a pretty country ride from Westchester. There are few restaurants left that conjure up that feeling of over the river and through the woods. The food is Better than grandmas becuse it is also visual art. Each sprawling room has it's own special ambiance but my favorite for lunch is where we sat, the bright room with enormous windows looking into romantic treetops."
