A word from Restaurant Toque!
20 years ago Toqué! opened featuring local produce: a showcase for Quebec's terroir and its suppliers. The ongoing contributions of these artisans is no less important today. We have them to thank for foie gras de canard or salicornia; lamb of heirloom vegetables; seafood or fine herbs. These tireless farmers, foragers and fishermen inspire Toqué!'s cuisine, on which they bestow tastes, textures and natural aromas and unparalleled freshness.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Food was not extraordinairy. No suprises. Le cerf était cru."

  • "The entire evening from start to finish was exceptional. We eat a lot of fancy food prepared by a lot of folks who promise the moon in their adverts and menus. This one delivers on every level and makes it all look effortless. And the food was exceptionally good."

  • "This creative and elegant cuisine is based on traditional Quebec dishes using locally and regionally sourced foods. The atmosphere is particularly welcoming for a fine dining restaurant. Our waiter Sebastian was knowledgeable, helpful, and a delight without being obtrusive-a perfect wait person. The wine list is extensive and the steward is a great aid in refining the choices. Our amuse-bouche was a rutabaga mousse with cocoa butter accented with cocoa-excellent surprise. I enjoyed princess scallops to start and a beautifully prepared rabbit for a main course. My partner enjoyed lobster salad and a risotto. The prices are what you would expect for this type of restaurant. Toque! has a Relais et Chateaux designation."

  • "Before going, you know already you're headed for a pricey dinner. The only question that remains is whether it will be worth the premium or not. Here are the reason that make me think it is worth it: - The food: all 7 courses tried were very good but 3 of them were exceptional. The deer was out of my comfort zone but it might have been in the top 3 pieces of meat ever had. - The wine: extensive menu. It is worth asking advice to discover new gems. - The service was polite yet warm. - Even packed, the place remains relatively quiet. - Tables are nicely spaced out. At the end of the day, it was a great experience."

  • "Finally made it to the Toqué! Needed a special place for a special occasion and I could have not asked for more. Our evening was perfect from the smiling welcome at the reception till the end. Food, wine and service were just perfect. We loved everything, including the thoughtfulness of the staff in bringing along a congratulations card wrapped in the finest chocolate I tasted in town. Bref, fantastique et merci à tout le staff pour cette soirée inoubliable"

  • "I went to the Toqué! with my friends to celebrate a special occasion. We really enjoy the moment as soon as we passed the front door. We had the "degustation menu" with wine pairings. It was so nice! We also had the chance to go to the cuisine to see how this team manage everything to delight the customer. I will remember this experience for years."

  • "This restaurant is equal to its reputation. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable, the food was imaginative and great tasting and the atmosphere was just as we like it. Only dark note was the odd cutlery. Knives were hard to handle and keep on the plate."

  • "Went here for a very special dinner, And was overwhelmed with the dégustation menu and paired wines. Only dish that went a little awry was a lobster/lamb option, each of the six other courses was exquisite and well paired. The highlights were the duck and a pairing of mackeral with a positively cider-esque wine. Table service was impeccable, with the highlight being the personal introductions of each wine by the sommelier, who had a delightful manner, amazing knowledge and the ability to evoke a complete sensory experience."

  • "Everything was beautiful and tasted wonderful! You can feel how these people enjoy having kids at their place!"

  • "Had lunch and chose to have the wine suggestions with our menu. Marvellous idea as the pairings were perfect, for the fish and the meat. Service was impeccable and very professionnal but not snobby. Desert was small but very good. What a great experience!"

  • "Toqué has an excellent reputation and it did not disappoint. The choices were interesting and the presentation and tastes were wonderful. Here is where you want to be a bit adventurous and enjoy something you have not had before."

  • "It was my sons 23rd B day and I decided to spoil him along with myself as we try different exclusive restaurants around Mtl. Where do I start............the service was impeccable, friendly, very knowledgeable and courteous. We decide to go for the food tasting menu and let me tell you they did not disappoint. Everything was exquisite and the choices they selected for their wine accompaniment were outstanding! The time flew by as we just savored every bite full to the conversations that we had between a father and son! Yes a little pricey but let me tell you worth every penny in my books for sure! Will definitely return that is a given! Thank you again to a wonderful culinary experience! These guys just simply know how to do it."

  • "We did the tasting memo and were thrilled with every bite. We didn't want to do the suggested wine pairings (minimum $80 pp, 4 of us) so asked the sommelier to suggest a bottle each of white and red that would complement the food and that wouldn't be too expensive. He was friendly and knowledgeable and offered to go down to the cellar after talking with the chef. His recommendations were great. Not only did we have good wine, but we also were not made to feel dumb or cheap. The chef creatively worked around my nut allergy. Our server gave brief, expert descriptions of each course as it arrived. The service was impeccable. The decor is not stuffy, rather understated and welcoming. Glad we finally came here."

  • "Service was a bit off. Meal was outstanding as usual yet could have been served hotter."

  • "The other reviews weren't lying when they said service was slow. I don't recall service being like that when we first went five years ago. That's why we returned. We had a 6:30p booking on a Thursday night. We started with some great cocktails-- some sort of honey-meyer lemon-gin&tonic mixture. We opted for the surprise tasting menu. Granted, we did say we would like to enjoy our drinks for a bit before starting dinner, but the seven courses took three hours! The only thing I didn't like from the meal was the sweet bread course-- why would you put something like that on the menu? Additionally, I thought the main protein (duck) was weak. I was left craving cow or pig."

  • "Even though it is not inexpensive, this restaurant offers an extraordinary culinary experience. We were amazed by the combinations of the 7 service menu (Menu Degustation) and the wines that accompanied the meals. Everything was well explained and all the quesitons were answered."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "Food was excellently prepared, however the portion sizes were rather small. Wine choices by the glass were limited (4 whites and 4 reds)."

  • "Wonderful meal in all respects. The food was beautifully presented, original and most importantly delicious. The service was impeccable. Wine matchings with tasting menu were inspired. Best restaurant by far in Montreal. Expensive, but worth every penny for those special occasions."

  • "My daughter and I celebrated her 20th birthday here. The service was superb. The duck was excellent. Champagne recommended, came from a small winery..........superb! Price point was very good. WE were treated like royalty."

  • "Menu, food, and experience are overrated. Food was just okay - medocre, nothing special, and not justifiable for the ticket of the meal. Presentation of plates was wonderful, but the gastro experience lacked immensely. Wait staff were pleasant, but slow. This Resaturant lacked charm of many other notable restaurants in Montreal. I'd skip this one."

  • "Food was amazing. Wine pairings were good but not great. Service was excellent. Cost was in line with what we expected. Thus was a four hour dining experience that didn't disappoint. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairing and had an opportunity to taste some combinations you couldn't imagine but that were fantastic. We'll definitely go back."

  • "This is simply the no. 1 restaurant in Montreal. Food is exceptional and the service is first class. Every plate is an adventure both in taste and in appearance. Very original cuisine with attention to detail."
    Dined on 12/11/2013
  • "Food was good, as expected in this kind of restaurant, but nothing astonishing, no surprises (bad or good). Wine list did not look amazing, but the sommelier did recommend a very good wine! The restaurant itself does not look like a high end restaurant + very uncomfortable furniture (chairs, bench)."
    Dined on 12/5/2013

  • "I went to Chez Toque with my wife and it was amazing. We took the 7 courses «degustation» menu and everything was fantastic. It's a bit pricy but it's a great restaurant for occasion. I was very satisfied overall"

  • "We went for the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. It is worth mentioning that it is a surprise tasting menu, which as its perks, but I admit I like to follow the menu, so this was a novelty to me. The service was impeccable. The hostess and the waiters where very amicable and helpful. The decor is very cool. The wine cellar is quite impressive. I would recommend dinning at le Toqué to anyone who likes good food and a great ambiance."

  • "We went to Toque to celebrate my husbands bday. We were greeted well. Servers were polite and knowledgeable about food. We opted for salmon confit, artichoke soup as appetisers that were out of this world. For the main course, we had chicken and Walleye fish. The fish was done to perfection- delicate, balanced and luscious. The dessert we ordered were caramel icecream and trifle--the trifle--was awesomest.. There is a reason why Normand Laprise is an institution--5 stars to him and his team. Will go again-- will recommend it to my friends."

  • "Creative cuisine, excellent service. One of the best restaurant in town. Excellent location, near best hôtels. Prices are reasonnable for lunch. The "Mousse de foie de volaille" was outstanding, refreshing and light."

  • "Tries too hard to be creative at times with tastes clashing and no overwhelming sense of what one just ate. Example was a desert chefs surprise that had so many different things on the plate each one cancelled the other out as they were eaten. Love local grown and support of locals. I am trying hard to think of something that would compel me to return."

  • "We were 3 for son's 25th. Three chef's surprise 7 course tasting menus. You tell them allergies & foods you can't eat. Beautiful plates. Creative dishes imaginative ingredients. Wine pairing 5 glasses for 1; 7 for the other. Private label. Though pretty, I wasn't wild about blood pudding course or cheese one served in cappuccino cup (my taste, sorry) The other plates were wonderful. Restaurant large & modern; lots of sound absorption. Full restaurant -quiet. Service professional. Most expensive meal ever . Not sure I'd go back for tasting menu except for occasion. Try the regular menu which also sounded yummy and a bit more reasonable. 100% worth going - at least once-! Fabulous for foodies!"
